Your perfect or near-perfect movie...

  1. I loved Diggstown, but does it really hold up? Haven't seen it in... 20 years or so

That's the cool thing about movies. One person can love a movie and another hate it. Like Bear-man and I regarding Apoch Now.

Diggstown is awesome....I watch it every time it's on.

    To this list I'd add...

Once Upon a Time in America

Bad Boys (Sean Penn....not Will Smith)

    The Sands of Iwo Jima

    Red River

That was a terrific movie and Wayne kind of played a villain in it. Thought the end could have been done a bit better though but I did think that it was one of his best movies. The Searchers was kind of like that when he first found his niece I think it was and we weren't sure if he was going to kill her or not.

My grandma liked her westerns, she actually had a bunch of em on VHS. Searchers was another we watched a lot, she liked that one. I also remember ones like Fort Apache, Rio Grande(?) and The Alamo of course. But Red River was my favorite.

Rio Bravo is one of my favorite westerns.

Red River was just on another level for me. Just a classic.

Wincester 73 is a really good one. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The Wild Bunch. The original 3:10 to Yuma.

And of course.....the man without a name trilogy.

In the adition to many mentioned above

McKlintock yeah it may not be his greatest but its pretty good and how can you argue with a movie that has the Duke and Lily Munster (Yvonne De Carlo) and a young Jennifer Hart (Stephanie Powers).

Shane is a pretty good old Western as well.

Interestingly, none of us have really named any movies made in the last 10 years.

    Kinda sad.

I remember watching "anatomy of a murder", and watching how a single dialogue would go on for 2-3 minutes with no cuts or edits. People could just fucking act...

Even films like the Graduate, Forest gump, stripes, had great long scenes with awesome acting and dialogue.

Now, the "best" movies are animations, or CGI (batman, Star wars...)

I think the best actual "acting" movies these days are Tarentino movies. Fuck was Resevoir Dogs an awesome movie...

When I think about my favorite movies from the last 10 years, the only one that comes to mind is the Revenant. Sicario was decent. Argo?

    What do you got?

  14. The Road. It's as hard to watch as the book was to read (in a very good way).

I love Tarantino's earlier movies, but his last 2 have really missed the mark, for me.

No Country for Old Men (another great book, and movie... hm, just realized Cormac McCarthy wrote them both)

Maybe the first Avengers movie... yeah yeah, comic blockbuster BS, I know. But unless you've been a comic nerd for the last 50 years, it's impossible to understand how amazing that movie was. Avengers may be the only movie I can recall off the top of my head that I had insanely high expectations for, and I was not disappointed. At all.

Damn, I just spent 10 minutes googling movies from the last decade and I can't find much. Sure, there's tons of movies I enjoy a lot. But, perfect or near perfect movies.... not so much.

I tried to watch it several times was never able to make it through (kept falling asleep) a friend of mine has said the book is great.

Come on we all know the Sharknado movies are the best thing in the last 10 years

If I was gonna put an Affleck movie of the last 10 years near this list, it would be The Town. Argo was just OK for me. One of the weakest Best Picture winners ever, IMO.

I don't see movies like I used to anymore, but the best movie I've seen in the last 10 years (2008 on) is The Wrestler.

Don't know the exact year that it was made, but Unforgiven was a great movie with great acting in it. The "Bridge" movie about the Francis Gary Powers spy exchange was also well done. 13 Hours was also one of my recent favorite movies.

Tarantino's movies always feature great dialogue. It's definitely something a lot of modern movies lack.

As far as movies from the past ten years I really love....

    Birdman

    Shutter Island

    No Country for Old Men

    There Will be Blood

And, honestly, the last Harry Potter movie....Deathly Hallows Part 2

A Bridge Too Far has to be the best WW2 movie.

Really? It must be better than the book beacuse once I got to the twist in the book it was like this sucks.
