I'm here until August 24th. Then I have a wedding the weekend I get back. So on that note probably expect the yearly league draft after that but it could be sooner.

Ireland was cool. I actually had to give the bartender back 3/4 of a cider because I physically couldn't drink any more. I made sure to supplement it with a whiskey in advance though. I'm in Belgium now. More precisely in Hechtel visiting some family for a week. We're going to Maastricht in the Netherlands in a couple days and then maybe Germany or Antwerp/Brussels or even Paris. Not sure yet. Today we literally barely crossed the border towards Eindhoven just to get slightly cheaper diesel. lol. After this week I'm going back to Wallonia (French Belgium as opposed to Flanders) but I've no clue what I'm doing after that. I might go to Italy if I find a cheap flight but the damn airport nearby strikes on weekends so flights are scarce and more expensive. I'll post some pics of Dublin Castle for you later. It wasn't super old like you may think but it was cool.

Sounds awesome! Being mostly Irish that is on my bucket list.

Don't get me wrong. I'm excited to see how it plays out. It just seems like a big number for a roster that should regularly be replenished with waiver wire players and rookies.

It just occurred to me that maybe I've misinterpreted the rules. If we have a player on a one-year deal that contract expires in January without dead money, correct? Or do expiring contracts incur dead money? That would make me reevaluate how I see things.

No dead money on a contract that expires, but I think if you take the time to breakdown your own roster you would see how money can add up to get you in a situation where you may want to be frugal in your spending habits (not in the near future, unless you spend up some rollover cash).

Right now, you are set for roughly $41mil to come off the books at the end of this season. Based off of the example earlier, all of that would come back on the books in a season with very little addition in the way of spending. That's before using any of your 3 and 2 year extensions. Saying you use those 6 extensions on vet min players, you are throwing an additional $6mil back on the books, but if a player like Geno balls out this season and you decide to extend him, that will bump his price up to $11,430,000. With that one move, you would already be over your previous season's spending.

Don't get me wrong, someone could definitely work to have rollover cash every season and still work towards having a competitive team. But if they are drafting well and signing well in the offseason FA period, there is going to be a point where they have to make decisions based not just on cash, but which players they have to let walk.

That's when there is potential for heavy bidding and potential overpays.

Let's say that Geno goes off but you decide not to spend on him. That puts a player with prime importance in this league on the open market. He would immediately be an odds-on favorite to become the highest paid player at his position if more than one team is in need of upgrading at starting quarterback.

Let's say you tag him. Now, either someone is willing to give up two first round picks or you're on the hook for $12,100,000.

Finally, if it looks like the increase of 8% a season on the cap is going to outpace the market, it will get peeled back to a number that comes more in line with the league, and this could include a cap freeze if the offseason market does not materialize.

My bet? Owners are going to slow play a lot of this until they get a comfort level with their ability to manage their team in something that is as new as this.

@Silver&black you did it again. You bid $2 instead of $2000 and lost out on a bid.

How can you see what he bid?

OK, I may have a problem doing it from my phone then, I'm only able to put in a 1, 2, 3 and so on. May have to do from computer.

When I put in $2000, it reverts to 2, but in this case I put in $2359.

Could be my bad, so I will check on my laptop next time.

    Thanks!

On the activity feed it shows how many claims were made. Hover it, or long press on phone, and it will show you.

I had an input error before as well. Try making a bogus claim, then after typing in your claim move a claim and remove the one you don't want and see if the numbers work. Switch tabs and go back and if it updated it should show the correct amount. You don't even need a fake claim to delete; it just makes it easier for the system to understand you changed the value.

    GREAT thanks a lot Joe!!

I had a claim in for Jimmy G of 2200, then the news released that he was completely cleared and would enter camp without restrictions, so I upped it to 5700... Now that I can see the other bids, I WAY outbid myself on this one. My original bid would have won.

Definitely a useful tool to gauge where you are compared to what others see as the market.

Since @RTTRUTH is the first person to make cuts, you can view his page on the contract sheet to see how it works with the activity tracker, adjusting your current cap and showing dead cap totals for next season:

Ya, Jimmy sucks at fantasy so last window I just bid on Trask at the minimum because 1 season and done of him might be better than hoping Jimmy gets a decent stat-line.

I would be smart to pay attention to details like this probably. I’m so used to the leagues I’m used to.

Well, he is an emergency in case Mahomes and Cousins are both injured...so I'm paying for insurance. His biggest issue is availability. He averaged 19.9 pts/game last season when he played. That puts him at #21 overall in our league. Last I checked we have 12 teams, so he's better than nearly everyone's backups...maybe even some starters...When he plays...

I also have the #1 and #9 scoring QB, so I'm not all that worried.

And looking back on this, I made a mistake on the books.

Since this is the first year of the deal, even if it is a one year deal, the 18% should be the incurred penalty.

I thought the penalties were based on years remaining?

Edit: I see now on page 1 that the first year of a 3 year deal is 18%, the first year of a two year deal is 18%, and it says players signed to a one year deal are considered to be in the first year of their contract.

I’m good with whatever. Still just wrapping my brain around the ins and outs

It’s a mistake I made without thinking it through when I fixed the sheet, and one that needed clarification.

It’s not possible for a player on a one year deal to be cut with benefit to the team based on the idea that the benefit is earned through contract longevity. An owner assumes bigger risk with a 3 year deal so the end of that deal should have more in the way of relief.

So I signed Hurst for $1,300,000

Cut him. So my cut penalty is $234,000 correct?

And that counts against my 2023 (this season’s) cap?
Or is that hit against 2024?
