As @IrishDawg42 pointed out, he's being asked to do what the coach wants. It's easy to poke fun of it because (1) they're losing football games and (2) it looks goofy... but it's understandable what Williams is at least trying to do. The Browns are blitzing and bringing more pressure that any other team right now. Peppers is, in Williams' own words, the 'Angel' in the secondary to save the big plays. That much blitzing means more one-on-one or even uncovered match-ups in the secondary and more pressure on those guys. Once Garrett comes back, the entire squad should benefit. Garrett's absence should also underscore the need for either: A suitable counterpart to rush the passer A better-devised scheme to generate pressure I'm actually pretty bummed about the first one because I thought Ogbah could be that guy. It isn't looking that for him yet, but again, he's in a new defense for the third time in three seasons.
That may be a tad bit premature, Sammy. Maybe Ogbah needs a counterpart to rush the passer? (I say premature because we STILL haven't seen what Garrett can do.)
Oh, I agree completely! I more meant that it seems Ogbah isn't a guy who could fill the alpha guy role (in case of injury).
Where Do We Go From Here Genuine question for the pro-Kizer crowd: Cody Kessler got eight starts. You seem confident enough that his 0-8 record, despite other successful markers for a quarterback, is enough to know he has no chance as an NFL QB. DeShone Kizer has had four starts - all of which are considerably worse than any single one of Kessler's. By the time we hit our BYE week, he'll have been the starter (barring injuries) for eight games. If, as it seems with Kessler, QB markers don't matter - throw them out. This helps Kizer's case. How many wins do you need to see to determine if it's worth keeping him in the lineup? This isn't a "bench Kizer and start Kessler" argument. It's simply trying to figure out what needs to be shown to determine if he's "the guy". I'm very seriously hoping the answer isn't "he's 6'4" with a strong arm". Kessler never saw the field in 2016 after Bob Griffin got healthy because Hue was pressing and desperate for a win. If we're 0-8 at the BYE, do we do the same thing and turn the offense over to Hogan?
After Sashi's speech yesterday, what is there to worry about? Who knew we were actually "right on track"?? at (1-19)! smh...It begs the question, "where the hell is this track headed?", but I think most of us already have a good idea... Sashi claims they can see improvements on the field.... Maybe he's referring to the new (old) way they painted the endzones that we never get into...idk To say the least, it was a tough press conference to stomach. I understand he wants to keep his job, but c'mon man, that's obviously;
Right On Track This reeks of the same tone as Hue's "played lights out" quote about Kizer the other day. It's disingenuous credulity because I don't think either one of those guys expected it to be as bad as it's been. FWIW... there are areas in which this team genuinely has improved! However, we're not seeing any tangible benefit of these improvements. The run defense has improved tremendously - but teams are throwing on us at will. The offensive line has improved tremendously - but we've got a QB who holds the ball too long or an RB who's too tentative in the backfield. So even though some units have made significant strides, they're offset by deficits elsewhere on the team and compounded by a non-competitive 0-4 record (1-19 overall). We get the luxury of second-guessing. Had another other quarterback started for this team and they take Malik Hooker at No. 12 overall instead of the trade down, this team could easily be 3-1 and none of us would be complaining.
My point was how does anybody give him a rave review so far this season? He has made no impact plays and is playing CF where his job is not to get beat deep...how bout when teams get in the red zone? He was smoked vs AJ Green on a corner route
Its all bout scheme SAS....like you said their rush defense has improved but QBs are throwing at will...why...the scheme says throw the ball vs a 8 man box
Assuming 4 years @ $32M / year is the magic number (declined by Pryor, accepted by Britt), why is it we never even heard of a sniff by Sashi regarding; Alshon Jeffery, signed by Philly 1 year, $9M. Pierre Garcon, signed by the 49ers, 5 years, $47.5M Jeremy Maclin, signed by the Ravens, 2 years, $11.0M. Desean Jackson, signed by the Bucs, 3 years, $33.5M. Brandon Marshall, signed by the Giants, 2 years, $10.9M Eric Decker, signed by the Titans, 1 year, $3.9M I submit that these numbnuts truely thought they had a stable of NFL quality WR's when, in fact, they had 4 duds and an orthopedic surgeon's retirement plan.
My guess would be, those guys had options elsewhere...Sashi called each of them, and got these type responses when he asked them about playing in Cleveland: And Britt? Well he knew nobody was gonna offer him anything near what we did.
I agree with your take on these guys. But, hindsight is 20/20. More than a few people wouldn't have predicted that Kenny Britt would suck as bad as he is. My point is, why wouldn't the Browns' FO at least make a sniff on one or two of them?
