Maybe they're just trolling him. He made that comment about the team being trash, now they're going to bring him in and not offer a contract so he's not even good enough to be on a garbage team!

That's better trolling than I have ever seen on here.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe they pay these guys as camp bodies while there are a few PUP candidates. And since these two were previous "bad boys", they take the Hard Knocks spotlight off the rest of the guys and leave the rest of the team to train in peace.

Will Baker Mayfield take first-team reps? Hue Jackson says 'no, no, no, no, no'
    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/w...st-team-reps-hue-jackson-says-no-no-no-no-no/

dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb....I'd expect nothing less from Hue. My goodness, NFL teams give the backups at least some reps with the #1's for a freaking reason. It's a violent game. Shit happens. If the starter goes down, wouldn't it be nice if the back-up at least had SOME familiarity playing with the guys that he has suddenly been thrust into playing with?? It's likely to be a high pressure situation. It's just common sense for god sakes...80,000 people in attendance. Another 60 million watching from home. And if an injury happens, our guy will be forced to go into a situation and play the toughest position in all of sports with a group of guys he's never played with in his life. Great plan..I've never said this in my life, but this really is one of those "only the Browns" things....smh.

This is what, our 20th year back in the league? I'm pretty sure we've had 18 different offenses, and I don't ever remember us eliminating the back-up QB from any and all reps with the #1's in practice...Geezus, half the teams in the league have to learn a new offense every year. Hue's reason given makes no sense...I sure hope he lightens his stance on that in the regular season when we start actually gameplanning, but nothing would surprise me...

Hue is too insecure. He fears having to answer questions about Mayfield outplaying Tyrod. If he would have the guts to deal with the situation, and just do what any coach would, and let Mayfield play with the ones for a series or two, he'd be doing what's in the best interest of the team. If Tyrod gets nicked, then Baker is going to be ill prepared.
If his thought process is to make Stanton the first backup, then let him play with the ones, but don't pretend Tyrod is ironman, and ignore the backup plan.
I have to wonder how scared Hue is about losing his job, not that he shouldn't be, but he seems to want to ignore his #1 draft pick, and stubbornly sticks to his "Tyrod is the starter" routine, never even offering any logical reason.
I happen to agree with starting Tyrod, but I wouldn't be such a pansy about it. I'd tell people we are starting Tyrod, to allow Baker time to learn and develop. This is a team that has experienced winning once in two years, and I feel the steadiness Tyrod brings makes a better foundation for the rest of the players to build around initially. We lost a lot of games due to turnovers, and mistakes, and as good as Baker is, he remains a rookie, who will make rookie mistakes. His time is coming, but first lets get the training wheels tightened before we introduce the talented but still a rookie QB.
    My take anyway.

Browns rule out Josh Gordon for Thursday

It’s only Monday, but the Browns already have ruled out Josh Gordon for Thursday’s dress rehearsal against the Eagles.

The decision is not unexpected given Gordon has yet to return to practice and remains on the active/non-football illness list.

“No, Josh is not playing this Thursday night. No,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “That’s for sure.”

Gordon returned from his treatment program at the University of Florida last week. The Browns are easing him back in, with Gordon participating in meetings and conditioning to start.

The Browns’ goal is to have Gordon ready for the season opener, but Jackson said he “would not be opposed” to Gordon appearing in the preseason finale at Detroit.

^^^No surprise here, but can he be ready for Sept. 9th? Josh Gordon can potentially be a difference maker for this football team in 2018, and we need him.. He looks to be in phenomenal physical condition. Can he keep his head screwed on straight? That's the question. All of what I've heard about his staying clean and working his tail off has been great. I just hope he's up to speed in the playbook. We all know that when Josh is on his game, he can make any quarterback look great, and he wins battles against anyone that wants to line up against him. He's too big, too fast and too physical for defensive backs to handle. If the Browns are seriously going to make a playoff run in 2018, I'd think Josh will play a major role...

I think the discussion was on a different thread, but I keep seeing where the "The League" has a say on when he is able to return. I don't believe that every player on the NFI list requires league attention to get back into action. They should just have to come in, pass conditioning test (like every other player), then they're good.

He may not have failed a test, but there is something bigger happening that is staying out of the headlines (beyond custody issue). Its good to make sure the young man is in the right place mentally, physically, hell, even spiritually, to make sure he can handle the rigors of the game, I just think we are not getting the whole picture.

    nice.

I think Juju makes that list before Brown...

If you could pick two of those WR's and put them with Mayfield and the current Browns, which two would you go with?

Tough call, but I think I'd take Deandre and Tyreek...Baker would be unstoppable with weapons like that.

Agree 100%... Antonio Brown isn't even the best receiving on his own team.

Two?! I'd settle for just one and for just half the year.

I'll take Michael Thomas, who could very well be the best receiver in the NFL now, and Tyreek Hill. Thomas catches everything and is a perfect outlet for a young QB like Baker. Hill is a big-time play threat every time he touches the ball.

Brown is currently #30 on PFF.com's list, 1.8 points ahead of Jarvis Landry.

JuJus production is due in large part because of Brown and even JuJu has said that. Brown is still one of if not the best WR in football anyone who doesnt want to believe that is free to do so.

No denying that...IMO, Brown is still among the best, but there are a handful of WR's I'd take before him.

Curious as to how many a handful is and who?

Suspiciously absent from that list is the guy you ranked as your #2 receiver...Josh Gordon.

Well it's just my opinion, but off the top of my head, I'd probably take Deandre Hopkins, Michael Thomas, Julio Jones, Odell Beckham and Tyreek Hill over Brown right now. Probably Juju as well...I just prefer bigger WR's for the most part, and Tyreek is just incomparable to any receiver....

I'm not taking anything away from Antonio Brown though. He's an elite WR in my book.
