I think there are 2 overall issues at hand: 1. The owner sold this rule change as it being unanimous amongst owners. Owners have since come out and confirmed not only was it not unanimous, but there was no vote, just unilateral implementation. 2. This is continually referred to as the "anthem protests". Players are not protesting the anthem. Players are not protesting the military. They are protesting during the anthem (w/ the recommended method of a Green Beret), there is a difference. Its along the lines of saying "I was robbed because I am white", more than likely it should be "I was robbed, AND I am white", the two are not mutually exclusive.
The underlying problem is that they are at work while doing this protest. I don’t know of any employers that would allow you to protest on their dime. And if they did, they certainly wouldn’t put up with it every time you show up to work. They are using the NFL as their platform for their protest, now no employer wants you using them as your platform for a protest that roughly 50% are for and 50% are against. Go kneel while China or N Korea are observing their national anthem. You just might be lucky to be alive in one of their dungeons they call a prison.
If an employer (not military related) played the dreary pregame parade war song every day and insisted that everyone rise, you’d have some problems. Guarantee it.
I question if either of you even read my post. I literally said the word "sarcastic" within the first sentence. Also, anyone who doesnt want to face up to "politics" is refusing to better themselves / the world around them. This is one of those chances. Let's take some damn responsibility.
Maybe in your world . . . Not mine. I get it, Frank. You were dropped on your head as an Airman 1st Class and now despise everything that may be construed as patriotism. That's your right within the nation you constantly bad mouth. Feel free to continue but, do me a personal favor and bad mouth it somewhere else. It offends me.
I'm absolutely all for bettering myself. I just prefer to better myself sometime when I'm not on a web-site to better my knowledge of sports.
I just pointed out that you cannot MAKE people participate in this silly ritual... legally. If someone was to be fired over it, they would have a legitimate lawsuit. That's all I was really saying. Only because you are aware of my politics and some background on this, you think I'm banging some drum here and I'm not. Just pointing out a very plausible effect to the mentioned cause. Sorry to have offended you (with my interpreted title of "the song").
Probably, but why sporting events? There are many places where people congregate and they don’t play the National Anthem. Sporting events have nothing to do with country except in the Olympics. Take away the Anthem from sporting events,
The funny thing is that the vast majority of people at sporting events stand for the Anthem, even though there’s no law or rule saying they have to. I wonder why? It’s called respect.
I am completely in agreement to do away with the SSB. That would solve this kneeling issue for sure. Do you know why the crowd cheers so loudly at the end of the bullshit parade performance? For the performer? For America? For the wars we fight? Fuck no! Now its time see the game. Get that crap off the field and let's see the game I paid money to see. That damned song seemed like it lasted forever. Right?
Sheep. I'm not standing. Fuck that. I'm an American... I don't have to fucking stand up at the stadium. THAT'S FREEDOM BABY!
My point was as mentioned above regarding a PRIVATE EMPLOYER making someone stand at a non professional sports job, that it would end up in a lawsuit.
You wanna jump off the cliff with 7 billion of the 8 billion people here? Go ahead. More room and ... MORE EVERYTHING for me!
Agreed. And I also agree with your earlier statement that the owners should have stopped this immediately with Kap... Now it has become this huge thing that, quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of being attached to the sport I love...It's a downhill train at this point. The NFL's new "policy" is just gonna bring more attention and make it worse. It's such an obvious attempt to snuff out the protesters, and when has that EVER worked?? it was like trying to put out the fire with gasoline if ya ask me. They didn't think that through. All they did with that was strengthen the resolve of the guys that want to use the anthem to protest...So, I'm not lookin for this to go away any time soon unfortunately...
