The first round is just some basic markers that I look for and how strong they are reflected.
I want two things to happen.. 1) a President of Operations, preference would be Peyton Manning 2) an Offensive Coordinator I would be ok with the rest remaining.
Jebus . . . That's like asking how would you like to die - firing squad, hanging or lethal injection? Option 1, IMO, initiates yet another armegedon. Then options 2 and 3 would shortly follow. Option 3 would no doubt bring about option 2. That only leaves option 4. From a pure production on the field standpoint, shit canning DePodesta would have the least negative effect.
Not sure there's ANY way that Hue survives this mess...He's done, I think. As far as the rest of the coaching staff goes, idk. Chris Tabor might not even survive 1-31...This team has actually taken a step back, from 1-15. That's pretty hard to believe given the offseason additions. These guys deserve to be fired. I've never seen a team that jumps offsides more, at completely obvious times, when the whole world can see that the QB is giving them a hard count in an effort to get the easy first down! How are we never aware??? It's terrible football, and we deserve better. That's just god awful preparation if it was a High School team. Down right laughable at this level...And that's just one little aspect of the state of Browns football that drives me crazy. It's just embarrassing.... Oh well, that's my thought's on the coaching front. I won't even get into the scheme that we are completely ill equipped to run...We all know the deal.
I'm a keeper guy. I just believe we've actually made progress, and in fact will be a better team in the second half. Not that I believe in Kizer, I don't, but the D,especially now that we have all hands on deck, is going to make us winners, if Gonzalez doesn't wet the bed. Bringing in another HC, is no different than drafting another rookie QB, in so far as it's a big Maybe. Yeah if we get a great coach, we'll be better, just like if we get a great QB. The way I see it, if we break it all up again, and a new HC / FO is doing just that, we lose the D coord who is making a difference, and hope the new guys don't just wholesale the existing players, and grant themselves a year to show results. I gotta believe that by keeping the FO/HC positions we benefit from all the mistakes, learning what not to do, and come into the draft/FA with a solid plan. The QB position is unforgiveable, at this point, and one would expect them to "know" they need a vet in the room, along with whatever shiney new QB they draft. Sashi and Hue have both had their feet to the fire, and one would also hope they see each other as their answer. They sink or swim together. Year three is make or break without question. I'd hate to believe they can't see the errors they've made. One would hope Haslam would insist on an OC, and demand Hue take on the duties of the HC solely. As awful as this has been, I feel like bailing now would simply be repeating our franchise's pattern of purge and re-up yet again. I know how that story goes. No thanks
Of course we could go the other direction: give the HC/FO annual contracts, and speed up the process of finding the right guy. And no more "I want to see progress", "just win baby".
You are saying that you are still all in on this Hue Jackson and staff, even if they go 0-16, after a 1-15? Tieing Detroit for the ALL TIME record of futility. You want more? It'll be unheard of , in the history of football, if they somehow survive that...I don't want to reset either, believe me. If we were just "Rob Chudzinski good", I'd be okay with another year...You have no idea how low my expectations are. Sorry. If we don't turn it it around and show life down the stretch, this coaching staff is history...There's no way they get another year.
TD, he did not say he was "all in". I read Ken's post to mean exactly where I'm at on this. To continue our pattern of bi-annual purging has gotten us precisely where we are today.
One point to argue - the Browns are looking at two Top 5 picks in the upcoming draft, as well as four in the Top 40. That's about as rich a draft as any team will have. Do we want this regime making those picks knowing that they're on thin ice and/or out the door already? Right now, Jimmy Haslam has more ammunition to coax highly-qualified candidates because of those draft picks. If the let Hue Jackson pick a quarterback - spoiler ahead, he'll pick Sam Darnold and torpedo this franchise - we're asking an inept head coach to win a majority of his games or get fired. And the new regime inheriting a franchise QB they didn't pick, meaning we either have to pick another guy or try to struggle through developing a guy they didn't pick. If we let the front office pick a quarterback - Baker Mayfield - I have serious doubts that Hue Jackson is capable of crafting an offense to support him. Because there is no Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, or Jameis Winston in this class - a guy who fits the mold of a traditional "franchise quarterback" who could plug-and-play in most systems. There are guys who can excel in the right situation but not that "universal" fit kind of player.
I never said EVERYONE should return. TBH, I'm surprised how little is mentioned in here about one of the three people who report directly to the Haslams - Paul Depodesta. What, exactly, is a "Chief Strategy Officer" and what should he be doing? My guess is that he is supposed to put in place a series of policies and procedures that detail how talent should be evaluated (both in free agency and the draft) and then ensure these policies and procedures are being properly implemented and used. If my assumption is correct, then either his policies and procedures don't work or he has done a piss poor job of teaching the franchise how to use them. If I were "king for a day", I would look long and hard at Depodesta. IMO, this is where an experienced football executive would come in. Both Sashi and Hue would report to him and him alone. Please note that "experienced football exective" would effectively rule out Peyton Manning.
I'm asking a simple question. I get that nobody "wants" to reset, but if we complete the unimaginable and go 0-16, are you still wanting to stick with this coaching staff? Ken said he expects us to get better in the 2nd half of the season. What if we don't? Ya still want Hue?
With all the injuries that team has? I think it's highly possible...Have you seen Tom Savage play? They mustered 7 points on offense against the mighty Colts the other day. The Texans are in trouble...
I cant see Savage playing the rest of the yr...hes garbage, but they play SF, Balt and Indy again so they can win 2 of those games on paper
As an all-in-one HC/OC? No. As a head coach who has a competent OC? Yes. That, IMO, is better than blowing it up again.
If the draft were held today, Houston's pick would be #7. And if you think Savage is garbage, look at his backups. Top 5 for the Texans is definately not out of the question.
See, I just don't see any recovery from 1-31. Sometimes it's better to recognize a mistake and move on.... I'm hoping for major improvement so we don't have to find out, but looking at the schedule, it's tough to see this team winning anything. The easy part of the schedule is over, and we failed to get even one win....
SF, Browns and TB will not win more than 4 games....now throw in NYG and it will b pretty close....I think they have playmakers but need to get them the ball....their defense is still pretty solid
And I don't see anything BUT recovery from 1-31. Look, I get it. You're a glass half empty person. But to continue to blow it up every two years will never fill your glass.
