Where Do We Go From Here?

I get that, and being truthful, that is how I feel about this draft. I have watched a lot of tape on these QBs, as high as I am on Baker Mayfield, I am low on all others. Sam Darnold is the only one that comes close(and it isn't close), but his decision making lends me to believe he will be a middling QB at best...now when you are talking about disappointment...that's knowing you have the #1 pick in the draft, you don't have to worry about agents, you don't have to worry about cap room, you don't have to worry about other teams wooing them...It all comes down to a couple of guys in the Browns War Room making the pick...which typically doesn't work out for me and who I want. You want to talk about fear of disappointment, that is me in 4 months watching the first pick in the draft go to Josh Rosen...I may go onto a deep depression the likes of there is no return.

I wasn't talking about Cousins, I was talking about Philip Rivers...

lol! well I didn't make it up...Here was your quote:

For the record...Kirk Cousins has been statistically better than Ben and Eli, Philip is in a league all his own as far as great QBs that has never won because of his roster, he's getting close to Dan Marino's atmosphere.

Being that Hue has been retained and it appears Dorsey will have no say in that decision until at least the beginning of the 2018 season, the possibility that Hue will get A.J. in an effort to save his job and keep the stability that Haslam wants at head coach should definitely be considered.

Dorsey will probably have the final word on what quarterback is selected at #1 overall and he may lean on the input of the potential bridge coach, Todd Haley.

Then again, Hue went all in on Kizer last season so that may be the only decision he gets to make at quarterback. Dorsey could be in complete control of reshaping the roster through trade/free agency which would more than likely rule out a move for McCarron.

Either way, I think the Cleveland QB room ends up with one of two combinations -
    • McCarron, Rookie (I'm leaning Darnold), Kizer, Hogan
    • Rookie, Kizer, Hogan

    SAS likes this.

I mentioned yesterday after the Smith news broke...We will likely end up with McCarron as the wily veteran presence that we so desperately need.

    yippee!

Ok. Yeah that was a little confusing....Even so, Cousins needs to win some games before he gets mentioned with those guys...Fantasy wise, Cousins is at that level. But real world football, he doesn't belong in that group IMO...

EXACTLY, you need to not just read the words, but actually put them in the correct order with punctuation...

It reads, Kirk Cousins has been statistically better than Ben and Eli.... COMMA... Philip is in a league all his own as far as great QBs that has never won because of his roster, he's getting close to Dan Marino's atmosphere.

Well, in order for him to win the TYPE of games you are talking about, he needs a roster commiserate to what the other two have enjoyed as well. No QB does it all on his own...except maybe Tom Brady, and possibly Peyton Manning, they win every single year, no matter what happens outside of their own injuries. Even Drew Brees loses when his roster is depleted.

    Got it...

ftr: you are really being an insulting assh*#@ today....

My frustration has runneth over the cup...

ftr: you called me out for my post, who's the assh*#@? (edit) twice

  11. TopDawg Legend

Well you've called us all idiots...You directly called me a brainwashed SAS disciple....and then you had your insulting breakdown of your thoroughly confusing post where you compare Cousins to all the greats..I didn't realize disagreeing was "calling you out"...

Other than not agree that it's such a clear cut and simple decision that we should go after Cousins, I'm not sure what got you so upset....But I know you are the one being nasty about things for no reason.

In all the back and forth, I almost missed this..Yes, Dogside, I don't understand why no teams ever take advantage of that. They would rather pay out the signing bonus over 5 years to alleviate cap stress evenly, but when you are in the Browns situation, you could alleviate that cap stress even more in years 2-5 of a 5 year deal. That is their saving grace here.

They could offer Cousins a deal in which he receives 5 years, $125M, pay him $60M of that in year one and guarantee 50% of the remaining 4 years. That gives him a total of $92.5M guaranteed, which no other team will touch...$60M to invest and turn into a lot more money over those 5 years, then be able to evenly distribute the rest over 4 seasons at $16.25M each year. No issues with roster retention. You have your QB wrapped up for 5 years, at which point he will be 34 and looking for a final contract. You have money to re-sign the young guys you have been drafting the past few years.

It makes too much sense to me, I don't understand why they don't do that.

    YAY!!

^^^ Would be a trade (obviously).

Denver was rumored to have offered a second and Talib to Kansas for Kirk Cousins but obviously the Chiefs didn't want to keep him in the division. A second and Talib to Washington makes a ton of sense.

  15. Speaking at the Super Bowl on Wednesday, Broncos OLB Von Miller said, "We need Kirk [Cousins]. I would like to have Kirk."

"Kirk could take us over the edge," Miller continued. The Broncos currently sit in the middle of the pack in 2018 cap space at just over $26 million, but space can be created rather easily in the NFL. GM John Elway is going to do everything in his power to get at least one new quarterback in the building after the Broncos have missed the playoffs two consecutive seasons with Trevor Siemian. Expect Denver to be right there with the Jets and others in pursuit of Cousins.

I'm not being nasty, there is a big difference between calling YOU an idiot, which I didn't do...and saying that the idea of Cousins being an average QB idiocy. He clearly is well above average and it isn't close.

The fact that SAS started all this and some on here no longer even considering Cousins, led me to the brain wash quote. He was all set for Alex Smith and thus tried to break down Cousins in the process of promoting Smith...it worked, some on here now think Cousins isn't anything better than Andy Dalton, who has been average his entire career. I would beg to differ on that front and am just defending my view on the subject adamantly.

The thing is, I don't believe the post was confusing at all, I still don't...you read it one way and didn't look at the post as a whole, you read 5 names and deciphered your own view...which wasn't close to what was posted.

So, you are saying the Redskins are going to franchise tag Cousins, then get a trade from Denver for him?

I'm saying Colin Cowherd is reporting that.
