but Will if it was an isolation spur of the moment incident what can the Red Wings or any team really do to put a "leash" on them? he lost his cool. it's not like he's a repeat offender of dirty hits or plays. Now if it was Gudas of the Flyers, I see your point as he's a menace.

I see your point, and I think we all agree with it to a point. And the NHL agrees with it to a point too. That's why punishment gets a lot stiffer for recidivists.

Think of this defense in a court of law: "I didn't mean to kill him, I just lost my cool for a moment". That person may get out of jail one day, but they're going to the crowbar hotel anyway. A serial killer with the same plea may get the death sentence.

If he committed the crime while working, his company would be subject to being sued in civil court. This is society's way of seeing that their employees pay attention to the rules. Is that fair? You have to be smarter than I am to answer that question. But consider if that blade had gone an inch or two up, and Spurgeon was a cyclop. Then what would be just punishment?

Nyquist is going to sit for a while, and I think he knows he deserves it. I think that's why he waived his face to face hearing. The Red Wings should be happy to fall on the NHL sword to send a message to their team and to the league.

love that. that's where serial killers lurk!

yes murderers and serial killers would all love to use the excuse "i didn't mean to do it." hell, some sickos would say "i meant to do it." in this case and in sports cases, athletes have lost their cool on the ice, field, court etc. they were model citizens and something set them off. happens in the car and on the road- hence the term "road rage" was invented.

people just snap at certain times in their life. i think they should get a second chance unless was something heinous like rape or murder.

I do not think Nyquist is unsalvageable. He lost his head. Using the stick to solve his anger is illegal and he should be suspended. I think he needs to train with Ronda Rousey as she obviously needs a job.

Vermette with a nice swipe on the linesman. Tough love on VD. This will be a suspension.

Nyquist seems about right. assuming he didnt have any priors.

surprised Vermette was so stupid. understand that you can be angry w/ the way the ref is conducting draws but its black and white, you cant touch em.

I didn't see the Vermette incident so I looked it up. Best view is from above at about the 1:50 mark. Crazy stuff, lol.

i read somewhere someone called it a "love tap." that's not totally accurate but it's not a full fledged slash. the ref's knee didn't even buckle.

Jacob Trouba will have a hearing for head shot on Mark?Stone

It appears Jacob Trouba will face supplemental discipline from the NHL.

The league?s Department of Player Safety has said in a Twitter statement that Trouba, the Winnipeg Jets defenseman, will have a hearing tomorrow for his head shot on Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone during Sunday?s game.

Trouba was assessed only a minor penalty on the play. Stone, who dealt with a concussion prior to the beginning of the season, stayed down on the ice before he eventually made his way to the dressing room.

The incident occurred when Trouba stepped up to throw a hit on Stone, but instead caught him in the head as he followed through, sending Stone to the ice.

Stone was one of three Ottawa forwards to leave the game because of injuries, which are piling up for the Senators. (NBCSports)

I do not like the Sens. They got on my shit list with a playoff brawl about a decade ago. (I will admit that it takes little provocation for a team to land there. And, once on my shit list virtually impossible to be removed.). Regardless, I think they're a great story this year. I think Les Habs can be counted on to do their thing, Clode or not.

I still expect the Sens to win the division. After all, they do not play the Sabres again. Buffalo sought, and obtained, ten-year justice by giving OTT 1 pt. out of a possible 12.

I hope they open the coffers a little bit before the deadline. Maybe yesterday's injuries will spur that, and that could be, ironically, a silver lining.

im w/ ya on the Sens. for me i think its Turris and Ryan. theyre such a bipolar team too, fuck them.
hope you're right about the Habs. Cload scares me, Price + Weber is the exact foundation to maximize a Cload system. really crossing my fingers they go down in dramatic fashion.

i dont mind the timing of the Trouba hit at all, it's just that its on him to make sure theres no head contact. he's not so good at that.

  17. rediiis Guest

trouba is big and he committed. he gets two games.

  18. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Who is shaping up to be a bigger disappointment for the franchise?

Trouba or Bogosian? Trouba will be close to 300 games played at the end of this season.

Trouba is on a good contract for what he does though, but I think he'll be on the bust list not long after he signs his next contract.

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Therrien may try to sabotage the team before the end of the year. Heard he's sneaking around the bowels of the arena, talking about pants.

I wouldn't worry too much, Shaw will get himself suspended and Gallagher will take another untimely injury. Then the Habs fans will crush their own team for playing soft or something. Or Clode will give a presser in English and they'll all be killed in the front office, death by cans of Molson.

    Sound theories anyway.
