St. Louis Blues forward Ryan Reaves has been suspended three games for boarding Matt Tennyson of the San Jose Sharks.

The incident occurred in the first period of Monday night?s meeting between the Blues and Sharks. Reaves will surrender $18,145.17 of his salary under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

The fallout from this Wideman mess has far reaching consequences.

At first I thought this was a good thing for all sides.
The more I look at the details, it looks like the broke something that didn't have to be broke.
I think Gary and his minions, in addition to the PA, really fucked this up for everybody.

 

I wonder what the NHL stands to gain by taking this back to court.

Are they trying to establish precedent, fix holes in the procedure, fix things with the refs, fix a problem with the optics in the league/sport, etc?

I'm not sure if this one is just about business or if it's actually about the sport or something more personal.

The official is still out with the concussion. Makes sense that the league has spineless consequences for players concussing refs since that's how they protect the players.

 

I think its kinda all of the above, but more weight is on the side of the Officials. I would be pissed to be in the Officials position now. This decision has sent a message that waters down the process of protecting them on the ice. Officials are already getting hammered physically breaking up scrums and scraps and they are taking a beating with everyone lobbying to put up more camera's, which they may take as a slap in the face.

I think what this decision has done is it may have been the straw that broke the camels back and opens up a full scale debate/confrontation between the NHL and PA and the Officials.

Just what the NHL needs is infighting amungst themselves, lol. Kinda defeats the purpose of promoting the 'coolest, fastest game on Earth'.

 

Very good point. Nothing seems to be going in their favor these days.
The officials have been fighting themselves (linesmen vs refs), nothing unifies like a common adversary. Could make some big headaches.
