  1. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

It looks like Ranger even glanced back and may have seen him closing, but thought he could make a play, and thats just speculation on my part, he may have been looking for a teammate to pass the puck to. Looks to me like he turned into him a bit too. Hate to see the hits into the boards and injuries, and I hope the best for Ranger. Very unfortunate play.

I do wonder if maybe Killorn should have tried to pull up a little, cause he was going to nail Ranger, even though he didnt go out of his way, and held his line, the boards were going to be a factor.

Looks like Ranger was looking around to make a pass but the problem with the play as i see it was that it was a head shot into the boards. Not sure if anything is called without the head involved. Probably would depend who the referee is.....

Ranger couldn't make up his mind, he turned his skates both ways before contact is even made.

No supplemental discipline on the Killorn hit, per The Canadian Press.

  5. uh oh, shanny and the boys agreed with me? now i'm skeered.

to me he drove him into the boards with a high hit. he could wrap his arms around him. he could not hit him. he drove him into the boards. tough call. hope he's ok.

...and Ranger was released from hospital last night. That bit of news just came across the wire at NHL.com.

Congrats Lulz, 'Network Moderator' ...sounds good. Tim sent a pic of your new office and just some of your new work load.

  8. cat, to me, and presumably to shanny, the issue is that ranger made it a lot worse than it would have otherwise been by doubling back into the hit just before contact. if he kept going forward, it's a hit that happens literally dozens of times a game, and no one says a word about it.

the one thing i didn't like was the extension of the arms, but i'm gonna give a guy with a clean reputation the benefit of the doubt here, and think he had no malicious intent.

two points that TSN brought up that i agree with (and the second one leaves a bad taste in my mouth):

u hate to see something like this happen with 4 seconds to go in the period - but i don't think u can mandate complete clock awareness.

and here's the one i hate to say, but i have to, and u touched on this one, cat - this is a real strong example in favor of brian burke's proposed bear hug rule.

I don't think I've ever seen a game where 3 goals went off the same teams defensemen......

Ya know what? That Glendening guy impressed me by taking that hit and carrying on. So many guys would have went flying like they were shot with a snipers bullet from the crowd. At-a-boy, Luke. :)

agreed, he just picked his head up and kept on keepin on. was there a call on that crosscheck/punch to the head?

He got a whopping 2 minute minor. It was his (Neal) first game back after having concussion type symptoms too. I would think because of that and the fact he's been in trouble before for shots to the head, he would stop that kinda stuff.

  19. nhl.com reporting neal and legwand were each fined $5000 for their antics last night.

It's getting close to the playoffs. I doubt you are going to see as many penalties or suspensions handed out at this time of the season. Unless of curse they are completely ridiculous and premeditated.....
