Kronwall gets a 1 game suspension... no game 7.

NEW YORK -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall has been suspended one game for charging Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov during Game Six of the teams' First Round Eastern Conference series in Detroit on Monday, April 27, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 18:55 of the second period.

  4. And I'll stand by what I said, This is a BS call, Kronwalls skates were on the ground when contact was made.

The reports coming out from this one don't sound good.
There should be replays of this out eventually. Quite a few have said it looked pretty late too. If he was booted right away, I believe he's getting a spin at the wheel.

raffi was not intending to injure in any way. the other player clearly turned his head and eyes away from contact (playing opossum) according to raffi's agent. that said agent has been seen lately with a sign. i will represent for food.

At least Raffi's skates stayed on the ice that time. I was looking for another Triple-Axel.

I do not know if intent is important. I think the ramifications of a player's style of play is what the league cares about. Raffi is being legislated out of the game.

    I'm fine with that.

It is common, (and very understandable), for parents to state that they will not let their kids play football. I do not want the widespread acceptance of this sentiment to be applied against hockey.

    Speaking of supplemental discipline.
Once they start fining fights and getting serious about dangerous and high hits, I think they'll buy themselves a reprieve, or at least more time, from the inevitable backlash.

The league and franchises need to stop trotting out older players with medical conditions. Even if the conditions have nothing to do with the game, good luck convincing the public. They wanted to avoid a serious conversation about it for decades so the public has every right and reason to dismiss what they have to say about former players' health now. The NHL needs to mind the exposure of former players.

It starts with Quintal's office. Gary can't make a massive shift while this lawsuit is going on even if he wanted to, I doubt the owners would let him.

He only played 15 games since his last suspension - due to injury. It appears as though Raffi is uninterested, or unwilling, to learn.

The Sabres' Patrick Kaleta was, similarly, de facto legislated out of the game. He also has been beset by injuries so we do not know if he actually learned anything or not. Raffi, on the other hand, was a high draft pick and feels content to play the game however he feels like it.

Half a season? That's too little.
