What about the shitbags that reveal themselves post-induction. Hard to come down on TO when Lawrence Taylor and OJ are in there. The piety is comical.
but their crimes were after their induction. the HOF didn't know they would become murderers and drug addicts during their inductions. that's the bad part about any HOF. They're HOF'ers for LIFE, so their lives until they die are open for discussion, investigation, examination, dissection and disagreement.
Ray Lewis is in there. He was (legally) guilty as OJ Simpson was up until The Juice's dumb stunt in Las Vegas. Its not the Good Guy HoF. Or The Blessed Ones HoF. Stats and accomplishments. If you are better than the lowest on the totem pole for that respective position, IN! Otherwise, its a mockery.
That's not true. Simpson was the sole person accused of killing 2 people. Ray Lewis was involved in a brawl that led to the death of a person or more. Ray Lewis didn't kill those people. A brawl he was involved in led to the death of 2 people. That's what he was charged with.
Not to mention that the guys who died started the fight by hitting one of Ray's guys over the head with a champaigne bottle, Ray testified against his guys and the guys still walked on self defense, but people still want to run the man down to this day because they are stupified sheeple that believes every crap story the media pushes out of their collective trash bins. to the original post, the HoF just let in a good player in Kurt Warner, who in my humble opinion should have never been in there. Hell he was benched for Matt Leinhart, Marc Bulger and a rookie Eli Manning during his career for god's sake. Very good QB? Sure, but HoF material?? Hell no. Inevitably it comes down to name recognition more than anything else and as long as your in the public eye, your chances of getting in are much bigger.
We shouldn't bring up Ray Lewis's past anyway because it opens us as Steelers fans up to ridicule regarding Ben Roethlisberger's past. Hate the player, not the man.
Which of those 2 was convicted of any charge? Neither. OJ didn't kill those 2 people in Brentwood CA. At least that's what the jury of his peers said. That was my point. Its silly to pretend the HoF houses nothing but angels. TO's "antics" should not prevent him from going into the HoF. Is he likable? Who fucking cares? Was he good enough of a player to get in? Yes. Bottom line.
wait a minute halo. you're thinking is not right in the OJ verdict. Was he guilty be reasonable doubt? The jury acquitted him of that. Some jurors afterwards felt personally he was guilty, but the Defense Team of Chris Darden and Marcia Clark DID NOT prove their case thoroughly enough for them to cast a GUILTY verdict. So do say OJ didn't kill those people is a tad wrong. He was acquitted of his crime bc the defense did not prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. That doesn't mean he didn't do it. Anyways-your second point is 1000000% correct. TO should've been in the HOF his first year of eligibility. If Michael Irving got in with his rap sheet of drug offenses and arrests, than TO should be in ! Done!
Side note, Irvin is about as bad a football pundit on NFL Network as Emmitt Smith was on ESPN and Troy Aikman is as color commentator. #StopHiringFormerCowboys #WeDontCare
Correct for some reason many people in this country think Not Guilty=Innocent and that is far from the truth.
OJ didn't kill those 2 people in Brentwood CA. At least that's what the jury of his peers said. Never said OJ was innocent. The jury of his peers did not convict him. According to the jury, OJ did not kill those people, due to reasonable doubt, the sky was blue, or whatever. The jury found that he did not kill his wife and/or Goldman. Otherwise, he'd be a "lifer" in the CA prison system. Never said he was innocent. That's semantics anyway. Wanna talk semantics, join me in the Politics Threads. We've got an overstock on semantics over there. Some think <enter shady athlete here> is as guilty as OJ was. My point: OJ, Ray, Ben, Lawrence Taylor, as tarnished as they are as people, their on-field accomplishments put them in the HoF. Same reason Pete Rose deserves to be in the Baseball HoF... accomplishments.
While not found guilty in a criminal court he was found guilty and did have to pay the the goldmans and brown family so 1 jury did say he killed 2 people.
I humbly disagree with the Pete Rose argument. He broke the "rules" of baseball, in which the penalty was a lifetime ban. Which, btw Rose agreed to. I don't feel one iota sorry for Rose. He basically signed a plea agreement with MLB and after years have gone by he wanted to appeal his agreement. I call BS on him. Nobody signs a plea agreement because it's too severe, it cut him breaks and he was happy to receive his lesser punishment for his illegal activities.
I'm not talking about Brown/Goldman v Simpson civil trial. Criminal. That's how it relates to the other examples given. Forget OJ. Use any HoF resident with a criminal record. Again, this is a stance on piety and the attempt to use some "moral code" as a qualification to enter the HoF. Due to the criminal status of several current members, I mock it as a fallible gauge. My bet is, the HoF would be maybe 10-15 players deep if we really used "morality" as a variable for induction. In other words... a really short tour.
