I thought there were two main offensive plays that killed the Browns yesterday. Obviously the Higgins play was the big one. But the browns had fought back anyway, and the other one came in the 4th qtr. Henne had just taken KC down for a FG. Score was 22-17, Browns ball around their own 30 yd line. After a Chubb run right that lost 2 yards, disaster struck again. On second and 12 Stefanski dialed up the perfect call. KC brought the house, and Nick Chubb had three O-lineman and nothing but green pasture out in front of him. The perfect screen at the perfect time, except that Chubb dropped it....That hurt. No doubt the Browns will be among the AFC favorites next year. The future looks bright, but this one stings. I think I had accepted after the Higgins play that we weren't going to survive a blow like that. Then in the 2nd half things started getting dicey for the Chiefs. Mahomes went out and it started to feel like Cleveland was actually going to pull the upset off....Then the knockout shot...., I guess Mahomes said it best after the game - "Henne-thing is possible!" Yikes....Tough out for the Browns. We will be back.
Heck of a ride, fellas. While not the ultimate goal of winning a Chip, this season has to be considered a resounding success for Browns and Browns fans, alike. This team went further than they had in any year in almost three decades. They provided a positive distraction in an otherwise tough year. We're three seasons ago we went 0-16... last night, we lost a close game in the Divisional Round of the playoffs to the reigning Super Bowl champs. We have solidified Baker Mayfield as the franchise QB, putting some lingering questions out there to rest. We hired an extremely promising, young coach who should be the unanimous COY winner this season. We're clearlying pointing in the right direction. Looking ahead to 2021, there's no doubt we can field a Top 5 NFL offense. We obviously need to prioritize the defense this offseason and give Joe Woods at least one more year with a full complement of pieces to see if he is the right person for the job. We seemed to have also locked down a left tackle for the foreseeable future - always a plus. Regardless of what Ben Roethslisberger decides about retirement, the Browns will start the 2021 season with the best QB in the AFC North. That is an encouraging thought.
Yikes....Tough out for the Browns. We will be back. Yes it was Dawg......Not fair but it is what it is.......good luck at the Draft and they will be back. SAS I'm cheering for the Bills as well.......it will be tough @ Arrowhead but "Any given Sunday"
Browns fans have nothing to hang their heads about. I think it's safe to say that the 2020 Browns exceeded all of our expectations. 11-5-0 in the regular season. First playoff berth since 2002. First playoff win since 1994 (at the expense of the Steelers). Getting beat by the reigning NFL champion and #1 seed in the AFC. The future does, indeed, look bright.
Shaking off all those long-running and depressing infamous records. First double-digit winning season in 13 years. First win at Pittsburgh in 17 years. First playoff appearance in 18 years. First playoff win in 26 years. We get to reset the counter on all those things.
Yup. That’s ‘cause the Browns are tracking the Bills. It didn’t feel like a 12-4 season for Pittsburgh.
It didn’t feel like a 12-4 season for Pittsburgh. I agree Dan.....lets not forget the Steelers were 11-0.
Gregory Rousseau. No matter what? A lot of time between now and draft, but from what I've seen and read would say my favorites right now would be: EDGE - Rousseau, Miami LB - Zaven Collins, Tulsa S - Trevon Moehrig, TCU I cannot fathom us using that first pick outside of defense. We went into the 2020 Draft with a glaring hole at left tackle and Andrew Berry's first pick was Jedrick Wills Jr., (spoiler ahead: looks like a good one). I would expect him to take a similar approach this season and let the board come to us. No one projected Wills dropping to Cleveland last season. My top choice (Rousseau) is an interesting one... he opted out of the 2020 season due to Covid and only has one full season as a starter. He was the second-most dominant EDGE player as a redshirt freshman in 2019 behind only Chase Young. It seems that most teams will give more preference to guys who played last season over guys who didn't, but Rousseau is that rare blend of speed and size (6'7" 265 pounds). Cannot coach that. Zaven Collins is a do-it-all linebacker who did play last season and won the Bronco Nagurski trophy (top college defender). Big (listed 6'4" 260 pounds) but fast and made huge impacts on the passing game last season (4 interceptions). Could probably play any spot in any 4-3 scheme. Trevon Moehrig looks like the prototypical single-high safety who can patrol half the field and can make big impacts in the passing game. Like all free safeties, it seems like his knock is on tackling but his prowess in the pass defense more than makes up for that. I think I read where he led at least all safeties in pass breakups and didn't allow a completion of more than 30 yards, which was also tops among college safeties last season. I would be extremely surprised if they went away from the defense. I suspect we'll see some cornerback prospects climb up boards and come into the discussion, but honestly I'm not seeing a lot of chatter there for most teams. Maybe a down CB class this year? Shaun Wade (OSU) who looked like a first round lock after 2019 was given a third round grade for 2020. Patrick Surtain II (Alabama) is probably the top guy, meaning we won't have a shot at #26.
