I KNEW one of you astute fucks would hit me right back with that as I was posting it. Well done Pat, point taken. However... the packers have juuuust a little better record in identifying and developing QB’s. All two of them. Call it luck? Maybe. But they saw something. In the short term though, that pick certainly helps us. They could’ve had a beast receiver for g-Arod but they chose to take a flyer on a 17 pick QB with a high ceiling. Best case, they wasted a first round pick. Worst case, they got yet another QB to torment us for the next 12 years.
There's a lot of really good stuff here to comment on, but I'll be quick for the moment: If Chicago walks out of this draft with two starters at any of G, SS, or CB, I'll consider it a success. I don't really care how they do it. Ideally, you take the best player at 43, and trade down from 50 if there's no one you like there (I think Ev said that). But if there's a starting RG at 43, and a starting SS at 50, take 'em and run. I have no idea how realistic that is - I haven't done any personal scouting this year, but both positions are relatively undrafted, at the moment.
Pace constantly spending capital to fix his own mistakes. I can't stand it. Not happy. Oh, well. I didn't do my own scouting for the first time... ever. So I get to just optimistically hope this kid is going to be a good fit. It's less about the player and more about the position. Fix the OL. Get a legit SS, so you don't have to play Eddie in the box all year. TE is in such bad shape because Pace can't pick the position. So, he picks another one. From everything I've read and seen, Kmet is unspectacular. He's a big body who isn't a bad mover, but isn't the kind of guy that changes an offense. Maybe he'll flourish under Nagy. Hopefully.
Kmet is a solid pick. Top prospect from a program that consistently puts out quality pros at the position. Pace might not have the touch with TE’s maybe Nagy does.
I agree. From what I read, comp is Kyle Rudolph, and I’m perfectly fine with that. He’ll see time as a TE2 this year. There’s a ton of trash at TE on this roster, I think something like 8 or 9 before Kmet. The position just better. It was arguably one of the biggest sore spots last year.
Not a fan of a TE in the second round. And especially not with Pace's history of failure at the position. As I've said before, he's botched TE worse than any other position on the roster besides QB.
And now we've drafted a CB who spent the whole season with a torn labrum. Nice. Good thing Pace has always drafted guys with a history of durability. Oh wait. Fire Pace.
The silver lining for tonight: this is the last draft Ryan Pace will ever be able to fuck up for the Bears.
Fingers crossed. I'm not that optimistic, given his recent extension. I'm going to make some time to at least scout the Bears' picks thoroughly this weekend. In retrospect, that's a lot less time consuming than scouting 100+ players at minimum every year. Time to see what I think of Pace's shitty - I mean, unknown picks.
Ok. CB not a position of need, really. I think they would’ve been fine rolling out Tolliver and/or Skrine, especially considering they got another pass rusher. But... a torn labrum is not a concern at all for a corner. It’s not a lower body injury. And I have buddies that follow college football, and bet it, religiously, and they think it’s a very good pick. Take that for what it’s worth. But the same guy also loved the Jon Bostic pick. So.... yeah.
I don’t usually post after a post but Charles Tillman had several upper body injuries and that worked out OK.
He's had a total of 3 surgeries already on his shoulders. The concern would be availability, factoring in recovery/rehab.
Sounds like that could be the reason he lasted as long as he did. But it’s definitely a legit concern. I’ll tell you this though, I’m 45 and I’ve had a torn labrum. It’s a long recovery but I’m good to go with that. And I have a physical job and I can still do most of the weightlifting stuff I used to do. The big thing I had was nerve damage with mine. That’s the concern. The torn labrum was 5 months, the nerve damage took 2 years to get back.
You know why Carolina took Chinn? Put 10 pounds on him and he’s Luke Kuechly. But faster. He’s an absolute steal. Mark my words. Beast. Fucking Beast.
