I wish they would hurry up and deal Vanek, but with the Wings just 6 points out of the last WC, I wonder if they may just ride things out.

mark stone is a top 4 with the yotes. i think he is a pairing defenseman that fits betwixt 3-6. it will become interesting if the flames do not sign him. giordano and wideman are quickly moving up the trade rumor list.

I don't think he's going to be a reliable 2nd pair type, so I think the price CGY paid was pretty good for them moving forward. They have plenty of good pieces. I like the trade for both sides...because AZ is a dumpster fire and picks buy them time.

Panthers have alot of space, and I think ownership will let them spend more on salary.
Given their need for offensive help, I won't be surprised if names like Vrbata, Frolik, Vanek, and even Pirri come up. They could definitely use another shooter. Sharp is an option too, Dale was the one that brought him to Chicago and overpaid on his first big extension. He's running low on Ex-Hawks.

Dallas might be looking at dollars right now instead of cap hits. They know they're fucked in goal, somebody will be bought out imo. Sharp saves some money to dump and he might land a depth prospect that fills a hole in return.

    Who lands Boyle?
I think Torts is going to push to get his guy back. He thrived in a defensive role for Torts, I wonder if the Bluejackets will pay the price.

Eaves is out there, I could see him going to Chicago or MTL. The Habs like softness (jk) and Chicago could use a versatile depth defensive player that can play both sides.

Kenny in Detroit better start cashing in his depth prospects for picks, even low ones. Can always flip those to move up in the draft. The redundant system isn't working.

Back to Boyle, Yzerman has alot of cap issues to work through. I wonder if Pit grabs one of their shitty expensive dmen or if he packages a crap contract with Boyle. TB in an interesting spot. Maybe all the Yzerman love can go away again.

I loved Pirri while he was here. To my knowledge, the only reason he was shipped was because Gallant didn't like him, largely due to the fact that he was a no-show, defensively. I don't know if that has changed (the defense - I know the coach has).

But I don't know what they'd do with another shooter (Pirri definitely fits that bill). Marchessault is very much a sniper, offensively, and they've struggled to put him in the right position all year. He was either thriving, while the rest of his line was negated, or he's playing on a line that's having trouble setting him up. You can't put him in the top 6, even though he's talented enough, due to the line chemistry those guys have. So he's there with Bjugstad and Sgarbossa, and they have been the least impactful line so far.

They've got the talent, they just need to figure out how the pieces fit. I wouldn't be mad if you added a guy to that third line and slid Sgarbossa down. They could use another defenseman - while Yandle and Ekblad are defensive liabilities (Ekblad is improving), they're not going anywhere. I like Matheson a lot, Demers a little less, and Petrovic is a staple. Wouldn't be upset if they upgraded Pysyk. But defense is at a premium league-wide.

But would they make a move now, just as they're healthy and hitting their stride? This team hasn't really gotten to see itself until recently, and it's won 8 of those 9 games.

There outta be an award for a special kind of GM and ownership like the Avs have.

I understand that the Avs want D. I understand that a Colorado native would be good for putting asses in the Can. Why can't the hockey team from Boston understand that Carlo has to move to Denver?

Once that trade is done, I'm going to holler until TM gets Stan on the horn and insists that Patty Kane must be a Sabre!

Pirri is the ultimate "one-trick-pony". All the guy can do is shoot.
I used to watch him for entire games, and you could bet reliably on two massive brainfarts a game, not necessarily defense, just being in a terrible spot or drifting to the worst possible location undermining their play or setting up the opponents for a prime chance.

I think Matheson will be very good and I think Ekblad is going to get better.

I wonder if Bowman is going to ask Kenny about Zetterberg. Schmaltz would be among the bigger pieces going back to Detroit.

The voices want this to be a rumor, Lennie should make it happen.

I think theyre stuck with him and that contract

I think one of your D might be a Penguin before the tdl.

probably pgh. if someone wants him, i would drive hm to the airport personally. his contract and term length are a mess. however teams that need a boost with cap room to spare may pull the trigger.

i wouldn't trade anyone of value to a rival. that being said - you can have macdonald, schultz or streit! i would drive them to pittsburgh myself to assure they didn't get lost !

Pens give up a 2nd for Ron Hainsey.

Not thrilled but it had to be done and I expect a similar move too.

    Pssst, Rutherford,

You signed him 3 years ago...and he's never played a postseason game.

Now, if the Pens blueline, the ones not on some type of IR, are playing hurt, I do like this move. He is a player that can plug in and eat up minutes so that the "real" top 6 can stay healthy prior to a postseason run. He can play both sides too.

I like to pick on Rutherford because I think he's bad, but this move addresses several problem areas at the back end for negligible cost imo. I don't rate 2nds as high as most folks.

Too bad Sexy Hexy wouldn't take my calls and trade Simmonds 3 and a half years ago. Still time to correct the mistake of keeping him this long.
