    thumbs up for Chappelle.

who is this in reference to, Darling?

  2. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    yeah, sorry, that was Darling.

With Panarin's raise coming up next year, and Darling due for a significant one, I'm guessing Bowman is just getting ready to cash him out.

  3. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

but who would pay for Darling and what would they give up?

  4. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

I'd be surprised if anyone made a play on Darling to have him as their immediate starter. If that opinion is correct why would a team value him as a backup more than Chicago would?

It's Murray, Dan, not Murphy. Fleury let in a bad goal in OT against the Flames at home where the Pens have the best home record in the league. It was a shot from a defenseman about 5 to 8 feet inside the blue line and MAF should of had it. So yes, Murray is the #1 goalie and MAF is on the trading block........

I have no idea who would pay what for him, but he's big, and big goalies who don't suck get contracts. He'll have a job in the NHL next year, but I'm not sure how he ranks compared to the rest of the goalies. I'm really far behind where I'm normally at keeping track of the market for goalies. (Cubs and Trump effects rattling the voices' work)

Arizona needs a goalie, and they are going to have redundant prospects as well as prospects that they'll have a difficult time signing to come to their team or affiliate. There's been some smoke in the rumors of AZ-CHI talks, I would guess Kruger and Darling would be of interest to them. The question is, how much.

Carolina-Francis likes ex Hawks and so does Peters.
Van-might want a backup for Markstrom
Dallas has to start worrying about jobs.
Buf doesn't have a goalie under contract for next year
EDM might want a backup used to expectations

NYI, STL, NAS, OTT, WPG, etc. Even Detroit. Lots of teams need a number 1 and a many will be looking for a number 2 after the expansion draft (should he not be taken. Some coaches have accepted committee type nets.

I don't know and I can't make an opinion that I have any confidence in. Just throwing ideas out.

I've spent almost no time thinking about the market for Darling since other, more proven goalies are being shopped. Until most of the teams address their future expansion draft losses, it's too tough to say anyway.

Something else to keep in mind with Chicago, they host the draft this year.

I think he's a year, or about 30 starts, away from anybody considering for starter duty at more than 45 games a year.

He's not going to get a first like Jones because of the lack of work as a pro number 1, but I do think he could get a 2nd+ like Talbot...depending how everything else shakes out. He's not going to get a huge raise, and he'll sign for multiple seasons, so that's going to make him more valuable imo. That's the trend I'm seeing anyway, tougher to tell with how teams view goalies though.

  8. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Bottom line, he's a big goalie, from a contender, in his prime, comes cheap, and he's without a pronounced blemish on his record...there will be interested parties imo.

  9. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

no idea how the league is looking at it but Id assume that the expansion draft will hurt the likelihood of moving non-#1s. maybe Arz makes a move for him and protects Darling and leaves Smith open for LV to take.

The G market is soft in general. There was a time when having a solid G was a tremendous trade chip. No more.

The market is going to be further saturated with goalies as teams position themselves for the ex. draft. Especially if a team has a G with a NMC they'll try to move a goalie. Darling will be traded or exposed because Chicago cannot protect him. They have no choice but to protect Craw.

In an ordinary year, I think Darling might be worth a 2nd. I don't think they're getting that much - unless it's something like a 2019.

Ironically for ex. draft jockeying, this is not an ideal year to accumulate picks. The 2017 draft is weak compared to recent ones. I'd rather accumulate 2018 picks.

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I agree with this as a rule.
What is throwing me off is the value of cap dollars. AZ paying through the roof to get them, CHI paying through the roof to get rid of them for example.

Seems most teams just "ate-it". I think contract comps are the key, and I'm looking at Darling and seeing a 2.3 x 3 number...meaning he's worth a mid 2+ imo. MAF, Bishop, Halak, etc. are going to get paid more. I might be way off on the value of cap dollars right now. It was worse (space was worth more) than I anticipated each of the last 2 offseasons, so I'm expecting the same thing again this year.

Of course that is assuming he stands above most of the other goalie options available...and Bowman/Q may decide its just better to keep him on the bench for this year regardless.

i really do not get the whole trade shattenkirk biz. if i was a gm and wanted to score goals and keep the seats full, i would keep shat and trade a younger forward for picks, a def for picks and resign him.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Shat is a UFA, and I don't think STL is going to resign him. Since he has plenty of holes in his game, he's not sought after like a top pairing type but that offensive upside will be worth a ton.

STL is hot now, I'm not sure he's even on the market.

A few years ago it was much easier to track rumors...or at least I was more confident in the rumors. Seems like more came out about who was one the ice when and where and how.

Seems more front offices are in better control of information about injured/dinged up players.

I'm trying to make sense of the rumors, but so many trading pieces and struggling lines or pairs seem to a player that is some sort of recovery from an injury.

It just seems worse to project this year. For example does STL really want another dman or does it look worse because of players playing through things?

A few positions seem obvious. Lennie is having a tough time delivering the good stuff for the voices. Twitter is full of updates on scouts in attendance at games. Colorado names up front and blueline names in Carolina seem to come up the most.

after a few years of jim benning trying to sell damaged goods often and early, this year he is saying "no trading." i wonder if he is seeing a dain bramage specialist ala tony of the sopranos.

Yandle pisses me off. One second, I want him off the team before his next shift. The next, I'm watching him facilitate a goal. I knew this was coming, and I don't hate the offensive assistance, but the way they're coaching him and Ekblad, we've got two defenders who are defensive liabilities. With everyone back and healthy, and the team realizing their defense is garbage even when healthy, maybe they change it up, let those guys sit back a little more. I say all this as a warning for the next time I pop on here and request a bologna sandwich in exchange for Yandle.

Who do you guys think are prime candidates to be picked off by Vegas at Goalie? I'm not expecting Reimer to make it to the other side as a Panther.

  17. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I think it's early to guess on a goalie.
Reimer's salary (not cap hit) may actually protect him.

Who is going to trade for Hanzal?
    That trade is screaming disaster.

Iggy is done...but somebody will probably offer a 2nd (don't do it Stan).

I wonder what Vanek will fetch. He seems like a worthy gamble for a number of teams. He's going to want to keep playing to pay for all the gambling...maybe he'll have a strong postseason since his future is so questionable.

  20. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

i think the Bruins could be a good fit for Vanek, top 6 minutes can be had. all comes down to the price and what the deadline plan is gonna be.

right now the lines are -
    Marchand-Bergeron- Backes
    Cehlarik- Krejci- Pastrnak

wouldnt surprise me if Vanek meshed well w/ Krejci and Pastrnak.
thats too much Euro skill for one line (read: not enough N. American sandpaper)
