I'm surprised we haven't seen a few more mid-low level trades. At the very least, I thought more teams would be hedging/stacking depth in anticipation of losing players or losing trade values when moves are made prior to the expansion draft.

The Leafs have traded C Peter Holland to the Yotes for a conditional pick. I don't think we can label Holland a bust, after all he is in the NHL. But it is fair to call a former first round pick (by ANA) a disappointment.

We need look no further than his draft spot for an explanation. He went #15 overall to the Ducks. There is an anomaly; almost no #15 pick has ever fulfilled expectations. The only exception I know of is Dylan Larkin.

I look at holland as an add on at best, 4th line hustler with a very limited skill set.

Friedman says it's pretty quiet on the JVR trade rumor front.

McLeod going to the Preds for AHL player. Avs just shedding cost.

Word on the interwebs is that Colorado is willing to trade anybody not named Rantanen or McKinnon. Sakic sucks, pretty much screwed himself allowing the Roy hire too. Should be fun watching the dumpster fire in COL for the next few years. They in some big trouble.

I mentioned at the game last night that I could not see the Avs trading MacKinnon, and that Mikko Rantanan was untouchable. So, you get my endorsement for your comment. (You feel better now, don't you?)

The team is just a dumpster fire, and I'm beginning to think that HC Bednar is going to be sacrificed on this sinking ship. Ownership is whack, and Sakic is still a hero in Denver after two parades many years ago. I think Sakic is going to be given another year - he'll sell it as he needs time to unwind all of the mess Roy created. (He'll leave out any mention of who wanted to hire Roy in the first place.)

The team played a pretty solid game against the Hawks, but you could just see them start to buckle when the Hawks stepped things up in the third. Owners do not fire themselves, and the team has shown no stomach for a scorched-earth blow up.

If I want to see good hockey in Denver, I know where to go: the Magness Arena at DU.

I'd like to see the leafs make some aggressive moves at the deadline. A veteren power forward like iginla and a good stay at home veteren D. Lepsic and some picks could be on the table, maybe even corrado.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward Tommy Wingels from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Buddy Robinson, Zack Stortini, and a seventh-round pick in 2017.

since the Flyers are fading fast, i would love to see Hextall trade some guys. I doubt he will, but im sure some team could use Streit on D for a Cup run. Maybe others?

I think the Sens are feeling confident about their chances this year. I would not be surprised if they were rather active between now and the end of Feb.

Canadiens acquire defenceman Nikita Nesterov from Lightning

The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenceman Nikita Nesterov from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night for defenceman Jonathan Racine and a 2017 sixth round draft pick.

The 23-year-old Nesterov has three goals and nine assists in 35 games this season for the Lightning. The Russian has averaged between 17 and 20 minutes of ice time per game and has a minus-three rating.

Nesterov spent the first three years of his NHL career with Tampa Bay and is currently on a one-year deal worth US$725,000. The Lightning drafted the five foot 11, 191 pounder in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.

I thought this was interesting and added some good insight as to some of the turmoil within the Avalanche program. Its from NHL.com...

Nathan MacKinnon expects Avalanche changes: Forward says captain Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene 'don't want to be traded'

Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon said Saturday he knows their last-place standing could result in high-profile teammates being traded even if they don't want to be.

Captain Gabriel Landeskog and forward Matt Duchene are two Avalanche who could be elsewhere after the NHL Trade Deadline on March 1.

"They've been in Colorado for a long time," MacKinnon said at Media Day for the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Game, according to Pro Hockey Talk. "They don't want to get traded. Everyone wants to figure this thing out. It's unfortunate that it's come to this, but I think changes are necessary when you lose like this."

Duchene, 26, the No. 3 pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, has been with Colorado since the 2009-10 NHL season. Landeskog, 24, the No. 2 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, has played for it since 2011-12 and was the youngest captain in NHL history when named before the next season.

Duchene told the Denver Post this week he is open to being traded.

"I understand that at this juncture of the season, the way things are going, something may happen, something may not," he said. "We'll see."

Colorado is 13-31-2, last in the NHL standings with 28 points, eight behind the next-to-last Arizona Coyotes, in their first season under coach Jared Bednar, who was hired Aug. 25 after Patrick Roy resigned.

I don't think you got what I was saying. JVR is arguably the most important player on the Leafs right now. He's facilitating the play of guys like Marner a ton. Last year was a bad year but it was for everyone on Toronto not named Nazem Kadri. JVR is back in form and on pace for career highs in goals, assists, points and powerplay points.

My comment was more because I don't want to give him back and that there are rumours of the Leafs trading him for a Dman. Well less a rumour and more speculation. I don't think it's happening. JVR is the type of guy the Leafs should be trading FOR if they didn't already have him. They need a guy like him that has experience and he's in his prime. As the young guys develop, guys like JVR are what will keep the team competitive, plus it's a good contract for the next couple years.

sorry joe I misread it. I see JVR's name and my BP goes up 30 pts. you can keep him.
