hmmm, I wonder if Tallon's "promotion" was made so that the front office could move some of his pieces out of the way.

Seems like a swap of two players that need a change of scenery. I don't like this move for the Canucks at all, but I think they are a better team, today, because of it. They one year and then he gets a ridiculous contract he won't play to.

I think getting Gubranson out of the way might be addition by subtraction for the Panthers. Better to clear up minutes for rest of the lot like Petrovic, Kulikov, and Matheson.

I'm liking this trade more for the Nucks the more I think about it. McCann projects as a nice player, but getting a player like Gubranson is becoming increasingly difficult. I personally would want more offensive spark from a young D in today's game; I think the stay at home D is going to become - not pass? - but out of favor. Still, it's nice to have a bruiser, especially in the WC.

As an aside, I think McCann and B. Campbell are from the same hometown. That doesn't matter for much, but could help McCann if he's feeling butthurt after his VAN experience. I think his future has regained its luster. (I'm just concurring with the change of scenery comment.)

What I like most about this trade is that it makes it more likely that one of the top 3 D falls to Buffalo at #8.

Getting a player with Gubranson's skill set is difficult.
I just don't think it's worth much long term. I don't think the skating, brains, or health will turn him into a reliable top 4 dman on a team expecting to win stuff.

Would Benning really draft by position?

Good point about Hamhuis, I just assumed he was going to stick around.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have a higher pick than expected at the 2018 NHL Draft.

With the San Jose Sharks advancing to the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night, the conditional 2018 fourth-round pick Toronto received in the James Reimer trade will become a third-round pick in 2018.

Leafs have to start drafting goalies, lots of catching up to do, shelves are bare.

I think they need to get one with their late 1st or early 2nd. Get your pick at a future goalie. They could also in the 3rd.

They should use 4 draft picks in the next two years at least, on goaltending.

i have no clue what benning is thinking. he does seem to prefer end of elc malcontents, underachievers or spastics that were highly drafted.

now that they're out TB needs to start laying the groundwork for a Ben Bishop trade. With Bishop's age, injury history, possible expansion draft looming, and Vasilevsky's play, Bishop has gotta go while they can get some assets back.

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Use them in a trade.
    Don't draft them.

It can take 6-8 years for a good goalie prospect to be a number 1.
The list of goalies ready to be a number 1, within a few years of being drafted is extremely small. Take the skaters and trade them for a goalie prospect at the very least.

  12. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Agreed.
WPG, DAL, TOR, NYI, OTT, AZ, CGY, and VAN seem like they would kick the tires on an upgrade at the position.

Philly, how could I forget the PHLYERS?

i don't want bishop. his knee is mush now. the flyers have goalies as prospects and im fine with 175 foot Mason and Neuvirth for another season.

    i don't want bishop

this is absolutely absurd. he is a stellar goalie. bishop is in the top 5 easy.

  16. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

he'd make those teams bob mentioned better, most of them significantly better. specifically Bishop in Dallas would be bad news for everyone else.

  17. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Bishop in Dallas would be a scary thing. Nothing wrong at all with Bishop if he stays healthy.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

more of a situation where the stars are aligning against him in TB. too much money needs to be paid out to the other guys and then having the young cheap kid behind him.

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I can't put Bishop in the top 10 goalies until he can stay healthy and reliable (to the point Cooper doesn't have to coach around his ailment to protect rebounds or whatever) for 3 straight months.

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    That's the knock.
He could have gotten them 125 points this year, and then they would lose the first round again because the mileage would force Ruff to clog his crease to protect him.

Very high risk, high reward type.

Having been through game 7s now, on the good side too, I'm much higher on him than I used to be.
