I was one of the goofballs that thought Howard's contract was going to work out. I thought the time to trade him was with 1 year left on his previous deal, if they were going to.

wow, hard to make Lehtonen look like a decent deal. that deal should be done. Aunt Niemi should be bought out.

    Was he an Eklund guy?

At least he had 2 sources, can't be an Eklund guy.

that is so bad for the Don. essentially what would've been an end of the 1st round pick + a player that seems destined to leave for Shattenkirk. a real NHL D!
I suppose the garbage contract coming back would've been important but I don't see any real albatrosses on the STLouis roster. maybe they shed someone at the deadline.
    either way, Fuckyou Don Sweeney.

i heard a guy call in to one of the local sports radio shows and offered a great hypothetical-
Bruins #14 pick + SJ's 1st rounder + Celtics future Nets pick for the 1st overall selection.
the radio hosts actually took time to talk about it.

There's a boston guy named bob ryan, used to work for the globe, he's always on the radio here.

he's a huge basketball/Celts guy skinny. been working here forever, think he started working w/ stone tablets when he got started.

I didn't believe the Shattenkirk rumor specifics and I think once STL started rolling any talk of them moving Shattenkirk was falling off anyway.

This Eriksson mess is going to be a real kick to the Balls of Seabass.

As one of the most versatile freeagents, he might wait on a contract offer which could be real damaging for Boston. Could be fun.

I think Boston cannot (or will not) resign both Loui and Krug. They'se got decisions to make, and may be "negotiating" with Loui to gain a small bit of leverage in a possible pending-UFA trade they could make in the next month or so.

They may not resign Loui, but would be wise to see what they can to avoid having him land in the division. They could be asking him what his terms would be to sign with a team they find less unpalatable than, say Buffalo.

Whatever Boston does, it's going to be fun.

Between Seabass' brain and Sweeney's math...things could be spectacular in contracts or in tradeds.

Sweeney at the helm is kinda like an abandoned outhouse in Mexico.

Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations Dale Tallon announced today that the Panthers have acquired forward Jared McCann, a 2016 second round draft pick (33rd overall) and a 2016 fourth round draft pick (93rd overall) from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defensemen Erik Gudbranson and a 2016 fifth round draft pick (acquired from the New York Islanders).

The 19-year-old McCann was selected by the Canucks in the first round (24th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. The 6-foot, 180-pound native of Stratford, Ontario played in 69 games with Vancouver this season recording 9-9-18.

I'm confused here, how much time after the trade deadline could they start dealing again? Never gave it much thought.

Right away if I'm not mistaken. You just can't use the players in the same season.

I thought there was some trade embargo they lifted at a certain date before the draft.

only non-playoff teams can make trades

gudbranson is kind of expensive for a one trick pony (although i like stay at home defensemen). this should probably signal the end to hamhuis and maybe even edler. this will also end speculation that the nucks will draft a defenseman in the first round.
