Unlike the canes who have been spinning their wheels since they won their last cup, the leafs are bringing the ship back to the shipyard and putting in double screws to the base.

  2. Hey Skinny how you doing?

Only thing I can say about your comment, At least we've won 2 Eastern Conference Titles and a Cup this century what have the Leafs done. :p

Barrie and one of the ANA dmen should be in play (Fowler?).
Min won't keep all of theirs either I suspect.

That Barrie is considered a trade prospect verifies the recent discussion on L4S that the Avs are doing their best to emulate the Oil. It makes no sense for them to move one of their best d-men when D is what they need. It sucks to be in Roy's doghouse; sucks for the Avs more than the player.

I think the greatest odds are that Tyson stays in Denver. Next best odds is he gets shipped to EDM. That would be interesting.

I think the Ducks oughta just send Fowler to the Sabres and be done with it. It's kinda too bad since Fowler is a great name for a Duck.

The Wild will make aggressive moves especially with the new coach in town. The Minnesotaers are getting restless after a few years of disappointment. I think they'll control this purge more carefully than we've seen from some teams. They're not likely to find what they really want - a 1C - but I do expect that expectations for next season will be at a fevered pitch come October. Them Wild fans are an amusing lot.

My friend found this one site which made us laugh our asses off. It had an idiot giving possible nhl trades for this offseason and many included unrestricted free agents. Like Leafs trade JVR and a bunch of players and picks for Stamkos or the Pens trade Malkin for a 1st round pick and crap.

in related news, some dipshits are reporting that the canucks would ship tanev or hutton. with their defense in juniors questionable at best, this scenario is asinine.

Can't wait to see what so many franchises do.

The gms stopped over-eating crack loops for breakfast over a year ago, so there is all sorts of space available with a cap rise to 73-74.5

Lots of goalies on the market. Dallas needs an upgrade. I won't be surprised if a Lehtonen+ for Howard swap takes place this summer. Dallas has a huge expensive mess in net and there isn't an easy way out of it.

I was wrong on the Dallas goalie front, truly a mess. you really think Holland will take on Lehtonen's deal? if so I want what he's smoking.

  16. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    I don't know.
    Big trades are so tough.

Howard has 3 years of 5.3 left (and an unfortunate movement clause)
Lehtonen only has 2 years left at 5.9.

If there is an expansion draft after next year, nobody is taking Lehtonen and he has to get better at the goalie position.

Teams don't want somebody else's expensive cast off netminder. It's going to be tough to find a taker for Howard without taking on bad money. Lehtonen is expensive but could be useful as a stopgap until Mrazek can or can't take over $1 full time. Also, if Lehtonen has upside, a salary retained trade after 17' may give Kenny more than he would get from Howard. (Let-em-in) is healthier more often than not.

Green, Datsyuk, Kronwall, Ericsson, Zetterberg, Franzen (still counts during the summer and for long term cap signing purposes), and Howard are going to be eating 33 million of capspace. It's an ugly picture with that group as a whole. I think Kenny has to do anything to move some of those contracts out of the way... but I thought that last year too.

I'm not sure why Chicago and Detroit haven't completed any player swaps. Everytime I look at those systems and contracts there looks like there are many good fits for both teams.

I really was hoping Tom McCollum or Jared Coreau were ready for prime time. They look great in GR right now... ive seen both of play, btw, but not sure if their quite ready for a full load in the NHL. If they were, maybe Howard could get moved for a defenseman or something instead of a goalie. Is that possible?

  18. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Howard lost the starting job and he's on a huge contract.
Way too many goalies out there and the last 7 or 8 years showed gms that if you're not getting a number 1, get a healthy backup and spend on a good system instead.

If Howard is moved for a dman, it's going to be one on a bad contract or one with a big contract and lots of baggage. I don't see it going well.

Who wants 3 years at 5.3 for a guy that can't stay healthy and/or can't keep the #1 job?

I don't think either team got the memo that they're in different conferences now.

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Me too.

Both have had prospects the other needs in there system too.
Chicago has needed wings, especially LWs and Detroit has needed Rshooting dmen and centers for example. Detroit needed a little more abrasiveness in their pool and Chicago needed a little more speed. Both had redundancies of the other and not enough roster slots or ice time. Bowman moved his extras out with only a few exceptions.

Maybe the prospects were bad and unlikely to fit in the other system, I just find it strange that there hasn't even been a minor deal for each other's affiliates since they've been up and down at different times.

Holland has been around a while using the same personnel, systems, and standards for a while. Bowman has talked of the proprietary analytics they use and they have a much newer front office and process by comparison (btw I don't use the word "new" to imply improved or better in this case). I wouldn't be surprised if there's a gigantic disconnect with the others' scouting too.
