  1. LOL.......well said Bob..........I'm BAFFLED why the Canucks did nothing @ Deadline ???

When "Aguaman"......(Vancouver owner).....hired Benning two years ago Jim was quoted he would......

................."Retool the team and make several changes to the Roster"..........

He did nothing............DAMN............I'm pissed off as a LONG time ((1970) Vancouver Canuck Fan.

A couple of my friends are thinking about NOT re-newing their season tickets......ONCE again the Team is re-building and Benning did NOTHING yesterday.....???????????

It's absolutely amazing that they were able to NOT do anything.
They have holes in the system to plug too. At the very least they could have slotted their farm better. Who knows what Chicago was willing to throw in to get rid of Bickell or PHI with Umberger or Streit?

They have two salary retained transactions left too. Higgins could be flipped for bad money on another contract with a 3rd rounder or something too. Hansen at 1.25 is worth a look to many a team he would have approved.

Why not swap out expiring farm contracts on D just to see if something is a little better?

On top of it, keeping Hansen, Burrows, Hamhuis, and Vrbata might prevent them from drafting higher.

They did nothing other than to let good talent walk away for nothing and let two very high level players decline for another year. After the summer of 2014, I never would have imagined the roster and farm would look like it does.

    You have my condolences.

I'm a little skeptical of the "source" but I don't think there's any doubt that Hamhuis was rated higher by Nill than Russell

Maybe this came across as too harsh. Between rask, seguin and hamilton the leafs gave the b's a couple of cups if they just would've stuck it out, the trades including joe set the team back to what could've been much greater heights.

Garth thought he could lowball for PA, not the way it works with lou. He has his price set and won't give him away based on principle. Still amazed they got 2 second rounders for pollack, man does he ever look slow out west.

the return for Jumbo was so bad. in hindsight they had to get rid of Thornton. i just don't buy him leading a team, specifically those Boston teams. i don't think they win the Cup in Thornton was here and Capt. a great player but no leader of men.

Seguin deal is tough. Hamilton too.

hard to argue against the Leafs gifts. they'd be set up for another decade if they stayed the course. possibly.

Not sure why Lou just didn't take the low offer at the last minute, it's a fukkin tank for Bettman's sake!

Still, I think Toronto have a very good tear down year. They didn't go full Benning.

Looking at these deals in hindsight it's easy to come down on them, but, at that moment they were made you could see the reasoning behind them.

It depends, if garth was offering a 5th, and lou wanted a 3rd minimum and maybe a 2nd, he's a 20 goal scorer and was better than anything else they got.

So he would rather keep an expiring asset for no gain or did he lose at a game of chicken?
Doesn't really matter. They'll have all the picks if they want them.

  14. skinny123 Guest

They have enough picks already, no need to just trade a player for nothing, shows weakness.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

lol, is that his truculence's influence?

"I'm not using a legal CBA provision to help my team because I don't like it!!"

Lol, this is being called lou's finest work, the snowman let the fans down.

Toronto will have an interesting summer with trades too I suspect.
Lupus, JVR, Kadri, Bozak, etc. Lots of extra picks too.

I'm not sure some of these injuries are even that legit, they shut down these guys to keep them healthy in order to deal them maybe. Nobody knows what happened to robidas, nothing is said, it's like he fell through a trap door.

  19. Thank you Bob............

Big rumour in Vancouver that Owner "Aquaman " got involved in the Trade with Dallas......he and Tom Gaglardi (Stars owner) do not get along at all (Canuck past History) and the deal went South right away and Dallas went to Calgary and got Russell.
Dallas was going to offer a 1st RD. pick if Hamius was part of deal.......I hope this is just a rumour ???

Leafs did very well and have gone to the Youth Movement .........I can see TO making the playoff's next year.

Can you imagine if they win the Auston Loto.........YIKES

  20. Toronto will trade half their picks this year for old veterans trying to sway Stamkos to join the team showing him he won't be working with a bunch of rookies. :)
