nothing wrong w/ 2nd rounders Mikey, some stars are from the 2nd round. I'm just saying that your return is essentially 3 darts to throw, hopefully you get a hit w/ one of them.

Eric Staal and paying 1/2 his money is a lot to give up. i think thats plain to see. Im assuming that both sides knew that he's planning on hitting UFA this summer and getting him to resign beforehand wasn't in the cards.

Like Mikey said, I think CAR hands were tied on this one. At least they got what they got and most likely resign him in the offseason. Its not like he has been lighting the world on fire this season either.

  3. Ok, not quite sure how this works but Eric Staal had an $8,250,000.00 cap hit. When divided by 82 games Eric was owed $100,609.75 per game. Now they had played 63 games up to the trade. That would mean they have paid Eric $6,338,414.25 so far this year. that would leave $1,911,585.75. I'm guess by retaining 1/2 of the salary the Canes are actually retaining $955,92.88 of Eric Staals salary. Which if that is the case isn't bad when you look at the overall picture.

^^^^ so this means that $50,000 per game is sent to new york city per game. makes a ticket holder happy. i haterize this scam of keeping salary. raise beer prices dammit.

Leafs trade Winnik and anaheim's 5th round pick to the caps for brooks laich, connor carrick and a 2nd round pick.

I wonder how much laich makes, caps must be making salary cap space for another move.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Daniel Winnik and a fifth-round pick (2016) to the Washington Capitals for Brooks Laich, Connor Carrick and a second-round pick (2016). There is no salary retained by either team in the trade.

Laich makes $4.5M and becomes a free agent at the end of next season.

very good point in bold. I completely agree that may have been the biggest factor.

The Los Angeles Kings beefed up their forward depth, acquiring veteran Kris Versteeg in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

He is in the final year of his contract that carries a salary cap hit of $4.4 million ($2.2 million of which is being retained by the Florida Panthers), and Versteeg is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

(Have heard it is Zykov and a conditional fifth for Versteeg. Not confirmed at this moment.)

Versteeg makes $4.4? who signed him to that?

    Same guy that signed Bolland.

Probably to the first team to give up a 2nd, although TM may hold out for a bit more if it's a low 2nd.

I think he holds on to Chad Johnson at this point with an eye to extending him a year. The G market is dry and he may be their best back up option come July.

What else would it take for McGinn for Loui?

I do not think it's outrageous that TM would bring in an expiring contract that he really likes. It would give them a huge advantage in resigning him and would just be a more expensive version of what is often done in June. Terry Pegula can be very persuasive and players usually really like Buffalo when they spend some time there.

There's a lot of fan chatter that McGinn will come back in July. I wouldn't mind at all if the term is three years or less, (tough for Jamie to accept that). Otherwise I think we've got some replacements for his role in the pipeline. I'd love to see Eriksson in next year's lineup.

I was envisioning the Hawks kicking the tires on McGinn.

Drouin and Hamonic still not traded.

You've still got your ~#60 - right? I think it's gonna take more than that.
