Maybe it's just me, but I've got a thing against nut jabbers.

2 UDFAs, Sekac, and waiver pickup (panik) + maybe some minutes to Desjardins and rookie Mashinter.

In other words everybody we're sick of seeing in Chicago at LW, we see less of now.
The enthusiasm is there on many levels for Chicago fans.
    Nostalgia about Ladd
    Intangibles- we luv em'
    His resume
    Did I mention intangibles?
Can win board battles in top 6 scoring roles or defensive roles
Has "net front presence" and "compete"
    Intangibles

In all semi seriousness, Chicago fans finally got used to seeing what was happening to Kane carrying dead weight on a line or really slow guys on a line (rookies, Handzus, Richards, etc.) Now they're seeing what happens to Toews if he's carrying dead weight (waiver trash, ufdas nobody else even tried to sign, Garbutt, Shaw, Panik, Sekac, Teravainen-out-of-position, etc. ). I think the fans are more knowledgeable about how Ladd plugged in puts 4th line guys in 4th line roles and guys like Shaw where they belong all as Toews and/or Anisimov get a LW to play with.

A guy usually gets a C on his sweater because he delivers intangibles. The just bought a C and that always helps in the playoffs.

usually, not always though. not saying Ladd is or isn't deserving but if you look at the Winnipeg roster over the past few seasons who else could be a Capt?

  6. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

The Winnepeg thought police assured me Bogosian was the captain of the future.

i think the Hawks made a mistake not making a play on Eriksson for 2 reasons- I like Loui a lot in a system like Chicago's and also I think they could have put themselves in a better position to sign him going forward. Ladd has been on the decline for a few seasons now and Loui hasn't. Unless Ladd goes crazy I don't see why they would pay up for him this summer.
so many variables in play though and looking at both organizations and their respective assets a trade would've been difficult.
Im assuming (jokes on me) that Sweeney is looking for an NHL ready D in return.

Ladd is there because he can let Q slot the rest of the wings where they belong.
This could go down very similarly to how the Kaberle or Vermette trades went. They weren't great, but they allowed many of the other skaters to go to areas/roles/situational ice tiem where they were far more likely to succeed. Ladd can plug in anywhere. That makes Shaw better, Teravainen's line better, and likely Toews' line better.

Also, he can handle a board battle and actually win. Chicago has won in part because they had at least a few wings that could win puck battles on either side. Sharp was slipping in that area and defensively imo. When Saad left, that created a vacuum. Hossa can focus on finding space for a shot again while still cheating back defensively. If Ladd does bust out, the 3rd and 4th lines are stronger.

I'm not as high on Ladd as most Hawks fans, but just addressing LW with a top 6 player is a huge benefit. Even Q sounded pumped last night, he has to be worried about breaking the motor on his blender.

    haaahaha, not Pavelec?

  10. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I don't think Boston would have retained salary or taken a LW prospect back. They might not have wanted a first in place of a prospect or roster player either. They would have wanted something that was more valuable to Chicago imo. Since other teams were in on Ladd, I have little doubt Bowman at least kicked the tires.

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

That whole Pavelec episode, start to finish in a few weeks, was a real kick to the junk of that franchise.

  12. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

the Bruins have the space to retain and if they're already selling Eriksson I wouldn't think retaining in the short term in order to boost the return would be an issue.
I think you're probably right on Boston not wanting a LW prospect or another 1st back. and let's be realistic, Id be shocked if that Chicago pick is under #27. we'll see, if Loui brings back a prospect and a #1 Id take it and try to flip it at the draft. didn't work so well last year though.

they're so good w/ the goalies. first Lehtonen, now Pavelec, can't wait to see how they screw up Hellebuyck.

freaking blackhawks. unreal them getting ladd. now i really hate them.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

yeah, if Boston is sitting on 3 picks in the first round again, I will laugh very hard.

I still think Seabass is going to try to win this year, I don't think he would want to eat salary until a few more dominoes fall.

I just saw this trade @ 11am today. Im not really on top of my E3 game this deadline.

  17. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

if he's trying to win I wouldn't think he trades Eriksson at all. top 6 W in this system is rare enough as is.

Pens sign Maatta to six year extension but are still a soulless organization destined to implode. (c3)

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

About 16 RFA dmen crapped their pants when they saw Maatta's contract, they were expecting more.

Maybe Rutherford is a superb stratergeryist and he took on for the team to squash NHLPA contract demands.

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I really have no idea why they would trade him. From a business perspective, they have to make the postseason imo. Unless they're landing a top4 d that they can keep for a while, I see no point in trading him. They can still land a conditional pick to trade him prior to the draft too.
