but why would SJ do this? he'd be taking valuable ice time from a kid that could develop. mustve been part of the deal, Toronto only takes him on in cap numbers.

this trade has me scratching my head. shinkaruk has 3 yrs left on an elc and granlund is due a contract. mebbe prust needed more ice time in utica. if i'm looking for a big picture, all i see is losses and promises of a future utopian canucks.

Benning must be really confident that Shinkaruk won't blossom if he's willing to trade him w/in the division. hadn't even looked at the contracts rediis, strange indeed.

I wouldn't doubt it, but it seems to be a growing trend there was a player in the fanoof deal that was kept with the affiliate because he was just a body.

Dubas was hired for his smarts no doubt, but has no recorded success at any level, has a degree in sports management if you could believe lol.

want he some wunderkind in the OHL?

He had family connections to get in there, and he evaluated the players good. I'm just laughing that they actually have a degree for gm's, but on a small scale he's had some success.

I have no idea what Benning is doing in Vancouver. He started out so well, now I'm just more and more confused.

I'm guessing his truculence has enough of his own centers and wanted a natural wing for his guys and Benning is drinking Flint water...so there you go.

Longest tenured Sabres, Mike Weber, was traded to the Caps for a third. A year ago I'd have been glad to see him go, but he's had a bit of a rebound season. His trade value bounced comensatorially from a bag-o-pucks to a low third.

Washington gets a gritty d-man for the playoffs. Weber could reunite with Buffalo in July.

Currently the team has 12 picks; too many. I hope TM bundles some to trade up.

Correction: the third is on '17. The Sabres now have 20 over the next two drafts (11/9).

Buffalo retained half of Web's remaining salary; they say that's what bumped it up to a third. It's nice to have an owner willing to do that.

The Tampa Bay Lightning plan to keep forward Steven Stamkos beyond the Feb. 29 trade deadline, but that does not appear to be the case for forward Jonathan Drouin.

?I definitely prefer to deal him sooner than later, it would be better for everyone,? Lightning GM Steve Yzerman told Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times Wednesday.

?A lot of things factor into it when making the trade, a lot of things to consider here. But No. 1 is, ?Can I do something involving Jonathan that benefits the team that makes us better right now that helps us for the playoffs? I?d certainly like to do that.?

Drouin, 20, is currently serving an indefinite team suspension at home in Montreal for failing to report to a game for the team?s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, in Toronto last month.

Nucks get Philip Larsen's rights for a 5th rounder in '17, could be a 4th if the nucks win the super bowl/world series and the lord stanley next year. benning is spending too much time in the pot shops in washington. everyone he is targeting is due a contract and he's telling them all they will be with the big club. this should be a fun week.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

They'll get one of these guys to stick.
The cost is cheap enough. It just makes me uncomfortable knowing that Eakins coached him into self exile.

  14. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Drouin and Hamonic are overdue to be traded.

Something else to watch for, a few clubs are going to move out prospects to clear ice time for UFDA signings next month and April in my opinion. Just something to keep an eye on when teams swap negligible prospects. Some will be to bolster an AHL team too though.

    Here's the source
If they're taking on Vrbata too, they'll have to eat Scuderi and/or Bickell.
I hope Benning looks at Bowman's track record of selling off prospects before he pulls the trigger.

Maybe they'll get Forsling back after the Clendening disaster (I thought that was going to be a good trade for both teams)

I was just talking to Hawks fan yesterday about how I hope they target Hamhuis if the acquisition of Boedker or Eriksson (I don't think he's on the market) doesn't happen. I'm not as nostalgic or excited about Ladd's availability. Hamhuis or Boedker please. Take their first, and one of the good prospects as opposed to the hyped ones I say. As a Hawks fans, I hope Benning takes a first, McNeill and Svedberg or something.

Bob, I haven't been to Rockford this season. In general, how have the IceHogs looked, and in particular that tall Swede?

  20. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Which tall Swede?

Rasmussen and Svedberg have been up and down quite a bit.
I thought Svedberg looked terrible last year, he's looked much better. I was shocked at the number of useful minutes he was logging with the big team too.

Rockford is very strong and balanced and inconsistent this year. Their defense took a hit with all the departures and turnover, they can be scored on. All the callups has played hell with any attempt to project them as good or bad or big. Every time I watch a AHL game with them in it, it's a blowout one way or the other it seems. They destroyed the Wolves (doesn't say much these days) 6-0 and then were smoked 9-1 against another div opponent in GR just a few days later. They get Hinostroza back last night and jump all over Mil last night 5-1midway into the 2nd. Hodgson cut the lead down but the game was never in question.

Bickell is tearing it up now, AHL-style, and Chicago is loaded with AHL-stud wings to give to Rockford. They create out of nothing but give up quite a few too.

With Leighton, Bickell, Scuderi, and a whole bunch of players with many pro seasons under their belt, they're going to be the most dangerous they've been in the postseason in almost a decade imo. They can play just about any style after the big club gets another dman and sends them more help...unless they decide to load up the big roster as I suspect they might.
