And this is why he's the perfect gm at this point, the leafs aren't at the point where they'll have any character players with any voice yet. I'm thinking guys like jvr or kadri kind of like being low key anyway. I think this culture thing is overblown, any of his rules if you think about it, make a lot of sense. He likes to deflect negative attention and keep everything professional, I don't see how much different it is in let's say chicago.

low key leadership hasn't worked in bc

Kadri and jvr are no leaders that's for sure. Have to bring wendel or dougie back for that.

Ken Holland says a trade would have to be a 'dramatic upgrade'... I think thats side talk for we are standing pat. Red Wings are ok, but ok sometimes works and sometimes doesnt.

In my opinion it is tough to decide which direction to go in Detroit. Scoring can be at a premium there and the team is loaded with forwards, but at the same time a shut down defenseman would be nice, especially with the Kronwall injury.

All said and done I think they stand pat...

I never listened to any Toronto radio shows but I know from my time on the tsn and cbs boards that there was an extreme willingness to buy in to Burke's plan. I can't say for sure at the exact time but I believe that you and I disagreed about the Kessel deal back then skinny. I was usually on an island w/ the opinion that the Leafs were likely to give up 2 top 10 picks in that deal and that they were the wrong team at the wrong time to acquire a guy like teh Phil.

You're right, when things started looking good at times you want to cheer for your team and its a lot more fun when you're watching the games. The phil had some good years and provided some entertainment and had the fans believing. If you take out the emotion and look at what burke did from an outsiders view its easier to see what he did, and you know what he did was wrong .The plan grows on you and then hope for the best and try to remain positive.
The only argument I had defending burke was that he thought they were playoff contenders. He never traded the 2nd overall pick knowingly, it just ended up that way. Once the horse left the barn there was no turning back.

well said skinny, its definitely harder to see it for what it is from the inside.

I don't know about perfect. I wouldn't want him near a draft board, handling major/key contract negotiations, or making a sales pitch to any player or prospective staff hire.

The culture thing is always tough to gage. When the culture is full of poor professionalism (Lupul, Kadri) and losing, a change in an direction is likely a direct or indirect step forward in my opinion.

The culture, whatever that may be, is very different from Chicago. Chicago's front office above the coaching staff is very "hands-off" with player policy (outside of administration of standard league policies) , Lou might die if somebody told him he couldn't go down to a locker room and show players how to do something. Babs might implode is Lou went near his lockerroom. Shanny was going down to the lockerroom last year. These are hands-on micromanagers in Toronto, based on their histories.

I'm really curious about Kadri. I'm still not convinced he's a malcontent or just immature and inevitably going to straighten out.

Kenny has been hanging on to too many damn projects.
    Jurco, Pulkinnen, Mantha, etc.

They're on track to lose even more young players for negligible or no return next year.

What are they serious about that Carlyle didn't get them serious about?
It's a pile of suck and inconsistency with good work ethic at practice...sometimes.
    I'm not convinced of that.

Going back to last month when Toronto was smoked 5 straight games, there was a story that went under-the-radar a little bit.

This is from the day the losing streak started:

    Happy times in Cali
    In-and-Out burgers
    Players like Lou's hands-on approach
    Reimer joking with Babs
Less bag skating, more skating as competition
    Etc. etc.

Saw vid last week of Babs going to what sure looked like a bag skate following a disaster of a game.

How does all of this tie into the trade thread?
    They're all getting shopped.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I really think he was telling the truth. He's not much of a bullshitter by NHL standards imo.

  14. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

They should trade all of them.

I think the Sedins @ 50% for Teravainen, McNeil, TVR or Gustafsson, and a pair of firsts might beat most offers.

Burrows just said he would waive his movement clause...could be awesome in Boston.

Kadri is exactly what he is, a 2nd liner with the ability to get you around 50 pts, if you think he'll be anything more you'll be disappointed. He'll get under the skin of the other team, and has been a pretty good checker this year, but a game changer never. He fits in well with an already established core that's going places, on the leafs he's just wasting years as you so often put it.

Chicago seems to make a good trade partner for Detroit or Montreal, some of the higher end players. Pacioretty is close to ideal for Chicago, but I doubt MTL would let him go without massive overpayment.

Teravainen is out of position in Chicago, might be worth something significant. Detroit needs rightwings and Chicago needs LWs.

On the block jamie mcginn, sabres looking for a 2nd round pick.

Jiri Hudler getting shopped, a lot of interest, 2nd rounder minimum, possibly high first.
