lol, if only Boston could be not terrible in his absence.
I'll bet Nill would do it as long as Boston threw in one of their picks, and Nill has the developed dmen prospects that Boston should never say no to.

Unfortunately Dan, Mike Weber is a player that does nothing to improve the a package for a good player on that bloated contract. He's an afterthought to round out the contract slots, money, ice time for other players, and/or balance out the late pick value that he's worth.

Dallas has plenty of one-trick physical dmen in their system. Nemeth, Oleksiak, Johns (eventually, maybe), and Jordie Benn. I don't see why Nill would want Weber unless Ruff has a dangerous fetish.

thats what I'm saying, good partners here. the picks are there to be had as well. Broonz don't need Chara anyway because it aint happening this year.

the 1 thing i found funny with the ott-tor trade was flyers gm ron hextall saying "that was the kind of deal, this team would've done a few years ago (under holmgren) and that the team is in no rush to make those kind of deals now."

    i love it.

Matty, I think the equation shifts a little bit for DAL since they're tooling for a deep SC run; they're not looking to get there in the first place. Lindy knows a few of the Sabres so his input could be listened to there.

I do see the two as a possible match once you ratchet things up a bit. TM: "I want Nichuskerov*, Johns**, and you can add any bad contract you wish. I'm offering Weber, Larsson, Tyler Ennis, and our '16 third and a '17 second." If they don't hang up on him then there's grounds to hammer out a deal.

(* Tim don't speak Ruskie. ** I have loved Johns since seeing him one time in Rockford.)

Good thing for the Atlantic that Sweeney doesn't take your calls. I think they would make really good partners. I was looking at the systems and the depth and there are a bunch of sensible swaps in terms of values and needs in my opinion.

That Ennis contract is looking like a big rusty anchor right now.

Larsson might get somebody's attention, he can play some defense.
McGinn might have some value too.

Is Murray willing to eat bad money to acquire a piece this year?

    T. Ennis needs to be in the right system, and I think DAL could be a fit. Ruff knows him, and I believe he believes he can get the most out of his considerable talents. But, yes, if they wanted to go with an expiring contract then McGinn could be part of the deal. But, I would not look at Ennis so much as a bad contract, but one that you have to scout well before taking him.

Bad money? Sure, that's not a problem this year and next. So, if it meant getting a top six winger I think TM would not hesitate. Term, not dollars, will be his concern.

I have no idea if they'd give up Johns, but I was surprised that the Hawks were willing to let him go too.

    I like Ennis.
To me it seems like there is no shortage of one dimensional, undersized, playmaking forwards. His contract makes kills most deals in my opinion.
Dallas does seem like a good fit but Nill has too much dead money on the Spezza-Sharp-Oduya-Hemsky-Goalies (31.5 million) to risk 4.6 on a limited player. He also has 2 scoring lines, he needs effective depth. If Murray takes Hemsky back, maybe they could work something out, but I don't see it with all the trouble at that blueline and in net.

I think we talked about it last year. I've gotten in trouble with Hawks fans about Johns. I was high on him but he just never took the next step. Looks like an AHL stud, I can't see him keeping up with faster and better NHL forwards anytime soon.

Given Bowman's track record of moving prospects, and the Hawks' needs going into last spring and this year, I would be hesitant to pay much for Johns until he proves otherwise.

not sure if Lauzon would qualify or not but the Bruins don't have many small quick D (Honka) in the pipeline, probably Claude related. Not enough big Fs (Nichuskin) either, very unCload like actually.

  11. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

I just think Nichuskin has a ton of value, Honka too. getting both of them would be a package similar to what they gave up for Kane and Bogosian Id think.

why does Chara's cap hit go down to $4 in '17/18? not his actual money but the cap hit.
his actual money makes him even more valuable for other teams too, that NMC could be an issue though.

I would love it if the leafs turn cowan into a pick, that would be crazy.

  15. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

the Leafs moving Clarkson, Kessel and Phaneuf saved them $19.05 per season in cap hits.

now win the draft lottery and sign Stamkos and you're gold,

  17. skinny123 Guest

It's true, I'll take one of the two, if we miss out on stamkos there could always be someone available later on, or maybe two players with a combined salary equal to him.

  18. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Nichuskin and Honka are cheaper though. Cap dollars worth bumped up considerably since time of the Bogo-Kane trade in my opinion

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

One thing to clear cap dollars, another to actually replace the talent.
Clarkson obviously a big win no matter what...assuming Horton isn't resurrected.

  20. skinny123 Guest

You can't have one without the other, addition by subtraction. Dwindling talent that was getting paid too much for a longer term than they deserved. They never would've won with them so it's a mute point.
