have to admit, Vinnie has been great since he's donned the Kings uni. Im not sold it'll last but the early returns have been great.

Heard em commenting on the tele that the Rangers fans are upset that Hagelin was traded and figure thats why the Rangers are not playing as good as we kind of expected. Hagelin fits in well with Malkin and Teh Phil. He has speed and thats what the Penz wanted. Malkin has an extremely fast line to play with now. They are kind of being considered the #1 line this year over Cindy's line.......

Not a trade, but pertinent contract news: Panthers extend Barkov with 6 year, 35 mil. contract.

  5. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I'm a fan of that extension for a number of reasons. The Smith trade is working out from what I see. With Smith and Barkov, the Swamp kitties have good defensive options up front to cover one side, allows Gallant to cover for some other weak areas.

I would think Kampfer, Pirri, picks, and a number of prospects are up for sale.
Dale will need to address the holes left by Mitchell and Campbell and he'll probably want another solution for either wing (LW now or RW for Jagr's ultimate retirement within the next 12 years). Nobody is going to touch Bolland's contract unless he's packaged with picks well beyond his worth. With 3 years folllowing 16' left, it's going to be tough to find a taker outside of Toronto. Tallon is also going to have a bunch of contract slots open. He might give up some slots to a team going to the tank and looking to open up their system.

I'm not sure if insurance covers Savard's contract or not. If it does, that's another 4 million on his budget. Tallon has to extend Gubranson to big money, but he'll still have enough for 2 or more Bolland contracts. Dead money on Mitchell, Versteeg, Campbell, and Thornton comes off the books.

It looks like WPG, CGY, and NAS would make for good trading partners. I think Talon will want a wing and a dman that can contribute offensively for this year and moving forward.

Huberdeau's progression has been underwhelming, I wonder if he's being shopped. FLA has a few more nice prospects about to come up over the next 18 months.

It is just rumor, but I don't have a reason to doubt this guy:

I would have thought Ladd would have been high on Dale's list with all his intangibly grindy goodness (not to mention his past history with Tallon) and expiring contract now that extension talks with WPG seem to have fallen off.

    http://www.csnne.com/boston-bruins/boston-bruins-seem-certain-to-trade-loui-eriksson-by-deadline

    This is Matty's guy (j/k).
He's with Brisson/J P Barry. They just landed a bunch of big contracts with Toews, Kopitar, etc. within the past year. Loui is going to get paid if he wants it. This UFA class will most likely be underwhelming at the wing. Sweeney abandoned negotiations with Hamilton and Soderberg, clients of the same agency as Eriksson.

  8. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

to me 5 or 6 years is just too much. well 6 definitely. i think Loui is worth the $6 per but it's the term that worries me. Id love to see a 3 or 4 year deal around $6. W/ Loui's build, more than concussion history, Im worried there will be a steep drop off when it comes. right now he's one of the best players on the team. he really always was he just had a bumpy start to his Broon career.
regardless, if the y can't sign him by the deadline they should move him. they can't afford to get 0 assets out of Loui Eriksson. priority #1 should be to sign him though.

  9. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Eriksson can't stay in Boston with the way Sweeney has that team lined up, there's no way to project where a player goes.

A guy like Eriksson hits the market and goes to Chicago at a discount for more term. He knows he's with Toews and Hossa, Hossa and 3C in a more defensive but heavy role, or with Teravainen for the next 5 years because he can play in all zones. Q won't short him ice time because he's extremely reliable and he knows Q isn't going to let a rookie or one dimensional player bump him unless it's for the sake of destroying everybody in the spring.

    I joke a little.

Seriously, I have no idea what Sweeney is doing and I'm guessing the agent has a moderate level of confusion too. Boston has to trade him even though there's no good reason to. The contracts to JHayes and Beleskey have forced him out of taking a discount and believing the team can win a cup.

I read someplace - I think it was TSN - suggesting Loui, Subban, and a first to the Wild for one of young potential #1 D.

To me, that sounds a little high for Sweeney to bite, but I think it gets a conversation started.

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

That same proposal is in the Haggerty link above. He calls Subban a "sweetener" as if gms are still seduced by a project type, especially in net, with a limited ceiling. I think a first, a 17' second, and Eriksson would make more sense. Minnesota has a real weak system but they have enough goalie projects. Picks for later and a player for now makes more sense for their needs. They have some time before the cap hits em' hard. Scandella, Spurgeon, and Dumba all cost controlled for a while.

Any good forward to the WIld for one of their d should at least be considered. Wild have the extra dman, the kind other gms actually want, in redundant and ineffective roles and they need another high end forward.

  12. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

see i think Eriksson is having the best season of his career. he and Krejci have been really good together.
keep dreaming. although its not out of the realm?.

lots of money opening up next season, not that it would justify an exorbitant contract.

  13. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

Id do it for Brodin, not so sure on Dumba. I don't think Minnesota is willing or able to re-sign Loui so Id be surprised if they traded such an asset for a rental based return.

  14. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

one thing Subban has is a high ceiling. I think he has an extremely high ceiling. problem is that he seems to have an extremely low basement as well.
thats not to say Minnesota would want Subban though.

    Haggerty, uggghhh.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I thought you would enjoy your guy's opinions.
I had thought his ceiling dropped a bit, not the physical talent but the mental side in terms of reading the play and being consistent? He can still be a stud because he's big and athletic, he just seems to be a longer term project from what I've read, hence the lower ceiling comment (timeline). I don't watch Providence, so I'm interpreting information 2nd hand though.

  16. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I would think they have to save most of the spending for the blueline. Which Calgary, WPG, or MIn dman do they acquire? Bring Looch back? 6x6 gets it done.

  17. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Brodin is going to have a really good and long career in my opinion. He's going to stabalize the 2nd pair ultimately. I can't imagine he'll be for sale for a rental and gambles. He won't even be 23 until the summer and he'll have 4 seasons of 20+ minutes under his belt. I think Dumba is going to be a gamble, Scandella and Spurgeon are very underrated league wide in my opinion.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

I hope they spend it on the blue line. Id think Sweeney, being an ex-Dman and all, would think that way. The current roster suggests otherwise.
Pipe dream for me to say Trouba Im sure.

I wonder how long before the Sullys start clamoring for the Bigfat back.

I don't think your Subban opinion is wrong at all. Still probably worth more for the Bruins to hold on to and marinate him, unless a team falls in love w/ the idea of acquiring a young goalie.

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Cheveldayoff has to be on the hot seat. He's in year 5 and the franchise is a mess, I would think even Scheifele and Trouba could be in play.
A big Buff could placate them.
I have little confidence in my opinions on goalies in general but I would think Subban is worth more to Boston than anybody else. They've had him for this long, Rask is still in his prime, and almost every team has cheaper, lower risk goalies in their system which would lower overall demand imo.

I wouldn't doubt trouba's in play, he isn't panning out the way they hoped, sell high, his value could take a big dive by next year.
