The leafs do suck, it's all about solving the rubiks cube.

Phaneuf is a year older, hasn't improved and becomes and increasing liability on a monster contract at that age. His value was better last year at the deadline.

Grabner is on a 5 million salary and 3 million cap hit. Barring a huge hot streak, he's not getting as good as a mid 3rd rounder back. He has negative value for non contenders since his salary exceeds the cap hit.

Kadri is an arb eligible RFA due a 4.5+ QO. While his defense is better, he's still a risk getting a raise and that offsets any of the marginal gains.

Gardiner's value is less because of the availability of left shooting offensive dmen that struggle offensively.

Parenteau is the same guy. His value is better because he was bought out last year and had to take a weaker number at 32 with a troubled and extensive list of recent injuries. He's not better because of Toronto. I agree he might get a 2nd if a few more contenders take RW injuries, but right now I think a 2nd is optimistic because he's been cast off from playoff teams twice and has major injury concerns.

    JVR's value isn't better.

Bozak is the same guy (I'm a fan of his), he won't get the same minutes on a good team making his 4.2 expensive for a limited 2nd line center.

Komarov isn't getting the same quality minutes on a contender. He's still an expensive agitator at an age that isn't kind to that game. He might be a better player, but that contract doesn't look anybetter. I think he's a better value in the spring but there's a chance a gm goes over the top for grindy and compete.

Polak's value is the same. He's struggled each postseason against good wings. Teams want his size, consistency, and physical game but they don't the mileage, the worthless stick (even though RHD are in demand every year), and 3 million of limited space. He'll be an easy sell at the deadline, provided the cap hit works, I just don't see the increased value.

I'm not saying players won't be flipped, I'm saying their values aren't better as a group. The value of cap dollars has increased faster than the value of any improved players or even the cost controlled ones.

The biggest problem for Toronto getting a big return on a depth player is that they've already used 2 of their salary retained transactions.

I am trying. Toronto is going to make, or at least try to make, about 6-10 moves between now and the draft so they are probably the most interesting non-contending franchise between now and July 1st in my opinion.

I'm serious about the trade values being suppressed though. I'm also serious about Toronto doing a full rebuild. The loonie's drop has a been a killer for depth players, and research has severely altered the bar for returns on non-high end talent over the age of 27 in my opinion.

Ok intwresting I'm at a loews with free wifi, what these players do now and between the deadline will mean everything as we know some gm's can get stupid, hoping.

yes matty the canooks suck, but it is fun watching young kids develop. wish i knew what thornton said to henrik after daniel scored the game winner. I've nevah seen him so upset.

The looney is a concern going forward for a lot of canadian teams, it could get real ugly. As far as trades go, the best time to trade is at the deadline to a desperate gm that wants to fill a need. It's a time where they tend to overpay. I don't think phaneuf's value was better last year at the deadline, his numbers are much better this year, but he'll probably garner the same interest anyway. The leafs will have to retain some salary if they do trade him.

and whats w/ the red BL can in Vancouver? wtf is that?

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    I don't think they're related.

Watch more Panteras. The team isn't the best to watch but there is a really really good type of player on that team for everybody.

Speaking of the Panthers, I'm going to throw up when I hear more talk of "building the right way" after a suckfest in year 5 of the build.

I think they need a couple more natural wings. They have a number of decent, redundant prospects, including the great Rob Flick. Dale has a chance to cash in a number of players he'll screw up handling.

I still can't believe how unstable the East is. I really thought MTL, TB, DET, NYR, WAS, and maybe even the Sens would settle into consistency with so much continuity in each franchise. The conference is up for grabs outside of WAS.

I would like to heartily wish the Oilers and Canucks a big, heartfelt "Fuck you". Between the chippy, cheap bullshit, and the dirty shots leading to injury, they've fucking earned it. Sad to see my Panthers lose the streak, but as long as they're playoff bound, I'm happy. Fuck the Canucks and that shit at the end of the game.

    ^This
    Say it again.

That Hendricks hit really ticked me off. I wish no ill will towards the Oilers though, they do enough to themselves.

this girl told me a joke today in front of a bunch of other girls.

so this blonde and a brunette are going up an elevator.
this guy gets on with a black suit.
he looks to his shoulders and brushes some white stuff off.
he gets off on the 8th floor.
the brunette turns to the blonde and says "he needs head and shoulders"
the blonde replies "how do you give shoulders"
