I'm willing to criticize Benning on principle, but I still don't have any idea what he's doing.

Trying to sell Higgy via the media has me scratching my head. You kinda showed the other gm's your cards and yelled fleece me

ya i don't get it either. what's the upside of such a public announcement?

Maybe he just wants to remind property managers in the area not to renew his lease this summer or something.

Vancouver is a goofy place these days.

This has 'shitty move' written all over it in my opinion. Benning never even hinted there was ever any hesitation... looks like he's just throwing the 'old shoe' away and doesnt even care about the return, because, its the roster spot he wants and wants now for a call-up.

WIth Parayko's emergence (I'm not sold), Shattenkirk becomes less vital. With STL's scoring problems from guys not named Tarasenko or Steen, his name is thrown around more and more often. STL overdue for another big move, I think Pietrangelo or Shattenkirk have to be moved since they're surgically attached to Backes for some reason.

Lennie is ready to rock in Toronto now that JVR is out for 6 to 8 weeks. Have to wait until the spring for that move I would think.

I have no idea why he and Phaneuf are still there if they're doing a full franchise lobotomy. Waisting prime years with out tangible benefit. I watched the Maple Leafs blueprint series, when I was done gagging from listening to Shannahan in episode one, I was laughing at Lou bringing his NJ culture over with him in epsisode 2. Fun fluff series, hints of "Oil change" in there.

Pietrangelo in a Broonz uni is my wet dream.

The leafs have upped the trade value of most of their players from the start of the season. They need a core going forward, so they aren't doing a complete rebuild. They aren't giving away players for nothing or jumping ship on their core like the stupid senators did with alfy and spezza, then all of a sudden hambuger comes along and doh. This is the last year of suckage, they'll cash in on those one year deals and things looking up. They aren't doing a franchise labotomy lol.

i think they should. I've said this since the Burke days.
tank it and grab Matthews or Chychrun or one of those big Finns. unless grabbing a Stamkos is an actual option I don't see why they shouldn't blow it up.

So much more light coming through the tunnel after this season. Tank after the've loaded players at max value, then hope for the lottery to come through.

You could blow it up when everyone's trade value is in the dumps, you get nothing for.nothing. They've raised the trade value of at least 5 or 6 players, timing on when you deal them is crucial. If they blew it up last year it would've been a big mistake. These aren't bad plyers, most of them first round picks.

    I'm not seeing "most"
I see a drop with most of their better potential trade candidates. Komarov is shooting almost 20% and turns 29 while getting top 6 minutes...I'm not sure if anybody is going to up their price on him.

JVR is hurt, Bernier imploded, Panik lost for downgrade, Phaneuf hasn't done any better in a new system, Grabner is terrible and dropping, Gardiner dropped, Polak dropped, and they only have one retained salary transaction to burn through between now and the deadline because some dipshit in the front office burned 200K of retained salary on $%#@in Gunnarson.

IF they weren't doing a Lobotomy, why would they bring in the Lou to do forced marches to team events and mandatory fun for all the kiddies?

They're burning 5 years of capspace on TEH Fill. They're cleaning out contract slots in place of salary (see Grabner trade), traded for 16' picks instead of all roster help, Hired Lou to Lamoreillo-ize the franchise, Horton is going to screw with LTIR numbers into the next decade, Lupus has 3 years, Babs has 8, I think they're still on Robidas for another year, etc. etc. etc. It sure looks like they're setting up to turn the corner no earlier than the 2019 season based on how they're eating cash and reslotting the contracts, especially in the system.

Which players have seen their value go up? I can buy and argument Komarov's did. The rest only sit there for return in case of injury, none of the "rehabs" have really done anything except keep them on the payroll for hopeful, and marginal return (which is a good thing btw). I just don't see who saw their value rise as a result of playing under Babs this year.

First off, komorov number one, his value is at it's highest it's ever been, so there's no argument there as a two way player. Kadri is playing a lot better, he's hitting a lot, and lately it's showing on the scoresheet, a good two way player again, improved. Jake gardiner although the small sample size of that line change he might've looked bad, his overall game has improved a lot especially the last couple of months he's also surpassed rielly as far as what he's done so far this year.
Bozak alone on the fact that he's producing without teh phil around, which was his biggest knock that he got all his points from feeding him the puck. Then you have PA who they signed for a one year contract and will most likely be pawned off for a second round pick. Phaneuf, if you compare him to the same point last year has upped his trade value, he's playing more sound defense on is on pace to score over 40 pts and has brought down his plus/minus. Grabner started out the season poorly but has poured it on this last little while with six goals in fifteen games. Jvr is hurt, I don't see that as a problem if they wanted to deal him, especially to a non contending team with a high pick to offer.

If you compare what they could get for these players right now compared to what they could've got for them last year at the deadline, sure they've increased their value, with the exception of maybe lupul. Polak is in demand, it's just that teams feel they're asking too much, but he's been a leader in the back end and he's been steady and only 29 earining under three mill, not bad, I would say his value has gone up too. Under, I can't even remember his name horacheck, there was no discipline or sound system, now everyone is playing much better.

Babs has 8 years, so what's the signifigance of this? They have one of the best coaches in the league for 8 years, and this is a bad thing? Jvr will be healthy by the trade deadline if they want to deal him for the right price to ANY team out there. They traded a bunch of nobodies for grabner, they wanted to get under 50 contracts, if he keeps up his latest scoring pace until the deadline they just might get a 2nd round pick.

  17. skinny123 Guest

If you feel they haven't progressed, that's fine, I won't dispute it, it won't go anywhere. Let's have the trade deadline be the judge, and see what they haul in.

If you think they'll turn a corner in 2019, then I'll take that over what they've done the last 11 years any day. That I agree with you, they'll have all the kids up and nearing their prime.

Lol, bob I know you're just trying to get a reaction. It's been quiet here lately without lulz and cutter.
