I hear you, the leafs had 27 scouts for the longest time, doing nothing but failing. Talk about an old boys club, ex-players, golfing buddies, relatives of old friends, just useless as tits on a bull.

You don't think pegabucks won't spend to the cap?

I'm saying that Buf operates in the Red when he spends to the cap. The revenue is NOT there. Fans should appreciate what he spends, but they should never expect it. Same goes for 9 or 10 franchises right now. We've seen what happens when ownership spends above what they take in, and it can happen again to a number of those cities and others.

It's pegulabucks, they've already named him the unofficial saint of buffalo.

i feel as though Vinny's whole game has eroded so much and not just the obvious offensive part. will Vinny even want to play a Sutterific game? I'm still in the wait and see crowd whether or not Vinny even has that option, I don't think he can.

  6. skinny123 Guest

That mclean guy that works with kypreos on sportsnet actually believes that vinny was just a throw in, forcing the kings to take on his contract.

this whole lecav mess couldn't have happened without some serious love from the nhl cap crew. i have a problem with the trade/no-trade clauses in player contracts. dude i bought and own you and i can do what i want with you. no trade contracts should be history

i guess so. i didnt think vinny was that bad his first year in philly as he scored somewhat but now he's so rusty from not playing he is worthless and not philly's problem anymore. see ya,.

    ooohhhhh, I like Sutterific.

The this is with SUtter, if Vinnie doesn't play Sutter's Sutterific game, Vinnie will not play at all. Yesterday's game with the Leafs was weird, but Vinnie got his 4th line minutes. Sutter used him on draws in all 3 zones and he probably had 5 shifts a period.

You might be right about the eroded game but Sutter is going to shrink the ice for him imo. Whatever happens, the only real upside is if he stays healthy and he relieves Carter and Kopitar of some nasty matchups. He can't really make plays anymore, so I'm not sure if he'll be able to contribute offensively.

I nominate you for NHLPA president.

Thanks for that update on their content, I've been ignoring Sportsnet too often it appears.

Kypreos is a NHL dummy. He's one of those former players that shouldn't be talking to fans. I don't care how much he knows on the ice, when it comes to talking and evaluating off of the ice, he hurts my brain more than Milbury. I'll save my Kypreos thoughts for elsewhere.

Kypreos is saying that Lombardi gave up a NHL capable prospect, a 3rd, and 4.1 million in cap space to MAYBE upgrade Greene's role in the lineup if he says Vinnie was a "throw in". That makes tons of sense *CRAZY* for gm that has been trying to contend for years and still has all his 17' and 18' picks to throw into a deal.

Nick Shore isn't very effective. Lewis isn't that big. Andreoff is just an agitator who is mediocre for his role elsewhere. Stoll is gone. They need a BIG center with long reach to absorb physical play. There are very few options that fit the bill this year and most of them are within the teams in the conference that still haven't given up on the season.

Gaustad costs more, assuming NAS-LA would even trade with each other
Hendricks, Hanzal, and Horcoff are in the division
    Fiddler isn't going anywhere
    Matthias sucks
    Stoll was already cast off
Laich is/was maybe an option but he's got 4.5 x2 and is worse than Vinnie overall now, doubt MacLellan would eat any of that cap hit without getting a good roster player back for the Caps...non starter for those two to trade with each other. Trotz wouldn't want one of the young marginal LA guys anyway.
Campbell is too small to fill the role
McClement probably is too passive in the physical department.
And most of the rest of the big centers that could be had can't hit an open net.

I'm sure I'm missing a number of names, I just can't imagine how Lombardi would find a player for that role in the postseason...even a gamble. Anybody with a short reach or anybody that isn't strong and abrasive wouldn't address the need (Sutter's need).

Doug maclean said it was a throw in, he was a former gm with cbj. Kypreos is opinionated, maybe talks too much, has a cup on his resume. I was surprised to see vinny there so soon, he a had a pretty good game.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Maclean listening to the same source probably.

Lombardi isn't going to give up 4.1 million against the cap ++, in a year of contention, for a bottom pair dmen just to replace or marginally upgrade the guy he already has in Greene. Dean didn't even clear any salary from his existing roster.

Maybe Lombardi is shifting to a crack and meth heavy diet, but I'm willing to bet the knuckleheads' source of that opinion doesn't know what they're talking about.

Denis savard came back to chicago after leaving and was with tampa at the time when he was picked up to get 4th line minutes. These are lombardi's exact words today when explaining the logic.

This was right after the deal. At the beginning he talks about size and strength up the middle.

If vinnie was not abrasive, big, and without a long reach, there would be no way in hell they would burn their limited cap room on him. I base that opinion on 2 decades of Lombardi and Sutter's history, the current NHL landscape for centers in trades, the cap situation, and the cited needs in interviews for the Kings coming out of camp in October.

The New York Rangers traded right wing Emerson Etem to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday for right wing Nicklas Jensen and a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Etem, 23, acquired by the Rangers from the Anaheim Ducks in a trade for Carl Hagelin at the 2015 NHL Draft, had three assists in 19 games with New York and was a healthy scratch 14 times.

"It's clear that Emerson got off to a tough start here and it just never seemed to gain any traction," Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton told blueshirtsunited.com. "It goes back to training camp really where it didn't seem to be working and a fit. So that's why at this point it was best for us to give him another spot to go to and for us to find a player we like and thought had some future. When Vancouver came along it seemed like the right time to do this."

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Friday before the trade that Etem would be sent on a minor league conditioning stint this weekend. Etem was a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Dallas Stars and was not going to be in the lineup against the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Etem has 15 goals and 34 points in 131 NHL games.

Jensen, 22, selected in the first round (No. 29) of the 2011 NHL Draft, has three goals and six points in 24 NHL games. He played five games last season for the Canucks and didn't have a point.

Jensen had four goals and 12 points in 27 games for the Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate in Utica.

"[Jensen] has a nice skill package; he can skate, has good hands, has good hockey sense," Gorton said. "Our scouts who have seen him recently thought he might benefit from another organization and another opportunity, and we see that a lot in hockey. Hopefully it's somebody that can help us." So true bob, size up the middle is key in the playoffs.

nick jensen was ruined by torts, av saw his skillz before torts ruined him. etem has a blank canvass in vancouver. this trade is good for both players.

It can't be bad in my opinion...as long as Benning isn't interested in responsible players away from the puck and as long as NY is going to deploy a multiyear psychiatric rehab team and guarantee minutes to Jensen.

I can say I've honestly looked for Jensen in multiple games and never found him so I have no clue if he's a rehab project worth taking on or not. Saw him in Chicago when he was just starting but I don't remember what I thought of him then. Looks like a 6th for more developed disappointment to Van. I was high on Etem in ANA, thought he would thrive under structureless (by NHL standards) Bruce but it was not to be. I'm not surprised he struggled in NYR, too many good wings there, they play a strong game away from the puck, and they are in contention, not development.

Overall, I think this is inconsequential. As more and more good players spend more time in the NCAA or Europe, the value of late round picks is easier to offset anyway. I'm willing to criticize Benning on principle, but I still don't have any idea what he's doing.

The roller coaster ride of quality of acquisitions and picks in NYR continues.
