they're gonna have trouble keeping those FAs after this summer. if they sign Kopitar he'll hamstring them even further, and let's face it, they have to sign him. Will they sign the Bigfat? Doughty, Muzzin, and Martinez are the only D they have signed for next year. They've been unloading picks and prospects so throwing in cheap ELC kids is far from a sure thing.

i understand adding for a run for this year but Lombardi doesn't have to only look for short term success w/ that young-enough core roster.

Im still pissed about the Pronger trade. How the fuck???

I think Nashville wins this trade

well the Flyers are paying half his salary and Vinny's too. Vinny could dress. Don't see why he wouldn't. He was promised a fair shake in Philly under the new coach and he lied to him.

A undersized minor leaguer and a 3rd rd pick for half price schenn and vinny is fair.

hey now! watch that mouth! Chicago is no prize! Where is Al Capone when you need him?

if he's happy with half-priced schenn and vinny, then i will thrown in some cheesesteaks for him. please enjoy schenn and vinny!

bc JVR isn't and wasn't that good. He was a great college player who never made a long successful jump besides that 1 season to the NHL. The trade was for 2 over-hyped prospects who never really panned out.

27 goals last year, 30 the year before and on pace for the same this year on a bad team. I think he panned out pretty well so far.

Im not disputing that they slaughtered PHI on the trade.
My point is that it's a shame that they haven't accomplished anything because of it.

If anything he lowered the value of Kessel playing opposite of him as every team was able to adjust outside of spurts. They had a huge dropoff last year in all major numbers. His center, Bozak, is still there and hasn't seen his trade value increase either.

While they smoked PHI on paper, the net result has been burning prime years off of an expensive player. Until they do something with JVR in terms of winning or a trade, it's been spinning wheels for Toronto.

I've been waiting for more of this rumor from Lennie:

JVR's brother is in Chicago and Chicago really needs a LW btw.
Teravainen is playing out of position. With Kruger on LTIR, and with Scuderi and Bickell buried, combined with existing space and marginal roster shuffling, Bowman can make room to acquire JVR.

he was lazy as fuck in philly. maybe the trade woke his ass up! enjoy! he probably has better linemates too.

I've been waiting since his highness (Shanny) has taken the thrown. 2 1/2 years on that contract left and he'll be 27 in May. I'm not sure waiting for a better return is a good idea.

Boedker, Lucic, Ladd, Johansson, Kreider, Schwartz, Gaudreau, Zucker, and Nieto are all on expiring contracts.

In 17' you have Steen, Benn, Marchand, Marleau, Huberdeau, Tatar, Palat, Pearson, Drouin, Duclair, etc.

In 18' you have Nash, Danny Sedin (nobody calls him Danny, but I thought I would start), Neal, Evander Kane, and Bailey that may cost less as well.

I'm sure I'm missing a few names and a few decent centers I didn't list can play LW well too.

There are plenty of options for a good LW for acquisition to fill short or long term need, often at a much lower cost in terms of cap hit or assets needed for acquisition. It will be interesting to see what Shanny does.

After sleeping on the Johansen-Jones trade, I still haven't changed my opinion. I think it was a mistake for both teams. CLB has been terrible with player development on the whole, relative to 30 franchises and Johansen's short success with NAS will erode when Lavy gets fired and a more structured or abrasive coach fills in.

Hey let me get my 2 cents in here, and I'll be honest. JvR when compared to schenn as far as impact goes on the team, it's a win for the leafs. As far as jvr living up to his draft status, yeah sure he's been a bit of a disappointment. Kind of this new age type mentality where he doesn't grind his way through the hard to play areas like the corners or park in front of the net on the PP. Hate when he's a no show, if he doesn't score he isn't much useful in the other areas of his game. But still, as pgh said, at the end of the year 25-30 goals isn't easy to get in this very low scoring era, so there's something to be said.

same reason he didn't dress for the Flyers.

getting anyone to pay any amount of Vinny's deal is a win. also getting a prospect that rang up 139 pts over the last 2 AHL seasons is a nice touch. no Philly prospect can say that.

I don't think the leafs would trade jvr yet. They want to keep some veterens around when they bring up the kids next year. They'll keep jvr and komorov up front, everyone else is tradeable. It should work out perfectly, 27 is the perfect age to take on a leadership type role.

matty-he was promised a fair shake from berube's doghouse. he didn't get it. he wasn't even given a chance with the new coach. i don't think his benchings were fair. give the guy a shot. christ, they are giving guys a shot now that aren't doing much...for a team with this record, would playing vinny be so bad? i don't think so.

    Vinnie is trash.

Even when he was good his last years in TB, he lacked the discipline to stay on the ice to help the team win. I question his work ethic and his decisions on top of that. Now that age and mileage have caught up with him, I'll be shocked if he can do anything besides beat up young 4th liners in a playoff matchup or slash some wrists that would otherwise slash Kopitar and Carter. I don't like Berube, but I never suspected any poor coaching decision on when it came to Vinnie. I think it was really obvious that he was finished as decent top 6 option by the end of his first year in PHI.

I was a huge LeCavalier fan, but he had among the most obvious dropoffs of any top player in the cap era.
