verbeauty is an interesting piece for carolina. i'm sure they will try to sell him before the deadline. kris should just rent a house and think about keeping his kids in the same house. bob is searching about the peripherals sent his way. gulp. it was just a salary dump to sign kruger, you get drafted players from rutherford, ahem, ahem.

Go cheer for Desjardins' rehab Canucks fan.

    Ha, I found them.

Massie wasn't drafted by Rutherford!!! There's hope. Don't ruin all my dreams.

Chicago gets an extra contract slot (okay, this still does nothing for them as they would have lost a forward to waivers anyway, but they still got it).

Hawks had to throw away Johns and Nordstrom just to move contracts for the best player switching teams in the two trades. Capspace got a lot more expensive to buy this summer. They might not be done throwing away useful pieces to clear space either.

Also of note, don't sing at Hawks' parades if you want to stay there.

  4. Bob, I have a question. If Kane is arrested does his salary still count against the Cap or do the Blackhawks get relief?

  5. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I don't think that's been ironed out yet.

Voynov was arrested and the league suspended him very quickly, with pay. His cap hit counted against the Kings until week 6 or 7 of the season (sometime around Turkey Day), Immediately after formal charges were filed, the league gave the Kings cap relief.

I'm guessing they'll do the same with Kane, but I don't know if anything is changed. So I would imagine that his cap hit will count, if the league suspends him, until he is formally charged. At that time, because of the slow timeline for the legal process, the league would give the Hawks cap relief as they did for LA with Voynov.

In Richard's case, the Kings went straight for the contract termination. Funny they didn't do the same with Voynov, so we should expect a new set of rules to come out to direct the league and franchises how to go about suspensions, cap relief, and penalties. We still don't know if the league is going to do anything about Ryan O'Reilly either.

Better call Roger the Rat (aka the Ginger Hammer) to help out with suspension language and totalitarian tactics.

    qft.
the insane paranoid Pats fan in me thinks the Kings could've, more like should've, set that whole situation up so that they could get out from under Richards' disaster of a contract.

situations like these need to be spelled out in black and white.

Since Toronto is going into a full rebuild, I like this move.
They free up the contract slots and burn some cash so they can sign PTOs that they hope to rehab and flip prior to the deadline. The bottom half of their system has been poor for many years anyway, so swapping all the dead weight out, even for other dead weight, seems like a logical move.

Toronto will be ready to make a swipe or two when players hit waivers too.

Nice to see Garth still has no idea how to manage assets or build a developmental pipeline.

Easy win for the Leafs, too early to say if this was a good or bad thing for the Wangs. I have no idea what their hockeyops budget is or if it exists. This may have been necessary after the Brock contract or it will allow another move later.

I think Toronto, NJ, and AZ should have a super-suck tournament of suckage this year.

    Bring on the first overall!!!

Anton Khokhlachev, (40th overall 11' for the Bruins) is complaining about opportunities with the Bruins.

I can't imagine Seabass and/or Sweeney want to hear a foreign kid complaining about opportunities. I'm guessing 29 gms just sent their scouts to look through Providence footage today.

It will be very intersesting to see how this plays out. Looks like the lack of communication from the gm/pres gave the kid a reason to run his mouth.

    This could get fun.

    G.D. Russians.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I think it's a very good time for the NHL to alienate Eastern Euros and Russia, most KHL franchises are really in the dumpster right now. The influx and return of them the last year and half has probably made it easier for some NHL gms to keep control of them.

Bryan Bickell's vertigo hasn't gone away.

Shouldn't stop most Hawks fans from saying Bowman sucks for not trading him...because injured players are easy to move, especially if they're on a bad contract.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Lennie needs to get the trade talks going again. Eric Staal, Buff, etc.

  16. hey, pronger got traded. anything's possible.

  17. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I don't think Bickell is useless by any means, vertigo sucks and I think he was banged up for large parts of last year. He said so stupid stuff that influenced perception of him.

If he stays symptom free for a month or more, I think Chicago could move him for something useful unlike the Versteeg trade for example.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

that wouldn't be a bad deal if Bickell is symptom free.

  19. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Obviously symptom free is the key. I'm not sure what gms think about vertigo, it's a very weird thing. Seems every player that had it reported bounced back just fine.

Many find Bickell completely useless. I'm almost always in favor of smart, good skating type, over everything else, but some big size is still needed for a contending mix. That's why he got paid so much imo. Some say he's gone past the point of return but I'm not there yet. I expect him to stay on Chicago through this season but who knows what Chicago is up to?

canucks on the market, vrbata, hamhuis, higgins, vey, dorsett, prust, miller, hansen, burrows, sedin x2, should be interesting this year.
