Kindl has really looked bad. I was in favor of the extension at the time.
With 2 years left at 2.4, that might be a big contract to unload with all the cap uncertainty.

My bigger point was that Kenny has 4 prospects on their last year of waiver exemption. Teams serious about winning aren't going to have 3 players with less than 200 combined games gauranteed spots in the top 7 at the blueline come 17'.

if smith or dekeyser would just put a couple of ounces of halo in kindl's car and made a phone call. instant promotion. problem solved via the voynov exemption.

    Winnipeg, time to do something.

Enstrom, Myers, Buff, Trouba, Chariot, Harrison, Clitsome, Pardy, Postma, and Stuart have NHL ice time.

I'll have to look at contract dates and time but I'm not sure if any of them have an exemption left. They have the Mac-something guy that was in Toronto a few years ago to at camp. That's potentially 11 non waiver exempt dmen.

    I like that author.

He just needs to understand it's the voices telling him these things and all will be well.

Eklund has not commented on whether or not the author is on his payroll.

2 rehab projects swapping teams. Gormley shoots right, pretty sure Elliot shoots left. Gormley was a #13 overall in 10' and a disappointment so far.

Schwartz, Tarasenko, and Bjugstad were taken #14, #16, and #19.
    Complete bust, Forbort, was #15.

Thinking about that 10' draft, it has a bunch of players that are 6' 3" or taller that haven't made any noise yet, I suspect we'll see a few more next season.

BTW, I like this trade for the Avs. It's surprising how often a good prospect can seemingly get buried in a lousy team's org. (Perhaps that's a key distinguishing characteristic between good and bad orgs.) Gormley has the potential to be a nice contributor in Denver.

As a Sabres fan, I have spent two years scouring other teams for possible gems. You never know for certain when you'll find gold or fools' gold, but Gormley was on my wish list.

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired forward Kris Versteeg as part of a multiplayer trade Friday with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Versteeg, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Blackhawks, was traded along with forward Joakim Nordstrom and a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft for defenseman Dennis Robertson, the rights to unsigned defenseman Jake Massie and a fifth-round pick in 2017.

Yeah, I think the Canes have to be elated. It was all about CHI clearing some cap space as far as I can tell.

This is a good trade for the Canes.

Nice and cheap value for Carolina.

Nordstrom does everything you want to see...except that scoring part. He just couldn't get it going offensively.

He was captain in Rockford, had the trust of Quenneville (rare thing), and got better and stronger every year. He takes on any role, works extremely hard, etc. From a character aspect, he's ideal. He was one of those players I really wanted to see succeed. If he can figure out how to bring a little more offensively (scoring chances, he wasn't in a spot to rack up points at any time with CHI). I think Cane fans will be really happy with him. He's going to get bigger and stronger too, I thought he had a good chance to replace Marcus Kruger in Chicago but he wasn't as talented offensively.

Versteeg was a cap dump at 2.2. Plenty of scoring upside but he's still prone to brainfarts and other mental handicaps. He's good to throw on the wing with a playmaker, because his ability to finish and reading the play in the offensive zone. It's too rare. Not much of a downside for 2.2 on a team trying to build an identity and he can still generate some of his own chances.

I think this was a very expensive cap dump for Chicago. The only intermediate plus is that now they can keep Kruger and bring him in before camp. Robertson and Massie look like projects, I have no idea who Massie is, never heard the name. I'm guessing Robertson was mostly just a throw in to swap out the contract slot.

It's really expensive to move out salaries these days.

We'll see how it plays, but I suspect gms are overvaluing young skaters a little bit.

Holland keeps all his redundant prospects
Bowman can't let himself keep any of them outside of the top 2 or 3.

I wonder which philosophy looks better in 5 years.

  20. With Semin gone the Canes have some cap space. it was probably this trade or bring Tlusty back and I think the Canes would rather have Versteeg
