Trades and Potential Trades

  1. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I can't even put CGY's blueline in the top 4 in the conference...on paper.
That team isn't going to sneak up on anybody this year.

5th in PDO and 28th in FF% close... this team still has to figure out quite a bit next year to match that point total. They had 15 REGULAR players shoot over 8%. That's ridiculous and unsustainable, even if they end up leading the league in offense next year.

I didn't get right into the corsi and D stats, but look at those point totals of each guy, speaking offensively, they don't really come across as stay at home type, but hands down the best on offense.

  3. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

That's what I was addressing with ridiculously high team shooting %, crap fenwick %, and very high PDO. They have a very good mix, but the numbers behind the main stat line don't hold alot of promise that they'll be nearly as good.

The offense from the blueline wouldn't be replicated barring divine intervention...and that's before the rest of the league adjusts to what they did last year.

I really like Calgary's overall construction of skating and skill, but I'm expecting a step back this year. It won't be too big of a step back though, the division may actually be worse than last year.

When I say 'nearly as good', I was talking about the offense contributions from the back end only. I think some of the dropoff will be covered by the forwards' turnover and maturity.

I like a defense with a mix of player types. A guy or 2 to clear a net and put guys into the boards, one or 2 that are great passers and an offensive defenseman like Coffee or a the phenom from the Senators.

I think great teams usually have an assortment and can cover all areas of the game.

    Balance.

please put down the Eklund and walk away.

  10. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Not when the big E is bringing magic like that. August is Eklund season.

I'm guessing Haggerty is his well placed source. Or it's Mike Sullivan at the end of the bar.

  11. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I'm working on my over unders for the year but there are still way too many trades, and other major roster moves that are going to be made.

I still think Boston is better off getting Bickell rather than a declining dman or Franson. He'll have bad money on the contract, but it won't be that much above his value.

Here's a list of good prospects moved from teams that have been trying to win 4 of the last 5 years. Obviously circumstances vary franchise to franchise and many teams had cashed in picks so they didn't have prospects to move.

    Chicago:
    Jimmy Hayes
    Dylan Olsen
    Brandon Pirri
    Adam Clendening
    Klas Dahlbeck
    Stephen Johns
    M. Paliotta (fair to question this one, I'm high on him but many aren't).

    Detroit:
    Jarnkrok

    Boston-none

    LA:
    Scrivens
    Jones
    Bernier
    Loktionov

    Vancouver:
    Schneider "thing 2"
    Lack "thing 3"
    Hogdson
    Connauton

    Minnesota:

    Larsson
    Hackett

    SJ:
    Coyle

    STL:
    Letunov
    Bishop

    WAS:
    Forsberg
    Varlamov

    MTL:
LeBlanc (very questionable projection but thought he qualified at the time imo)
    Ramo

    Pit:
    J Morrow
Tangradi (not really a prospect at that point but close in terms of experience)

    Ott:

    Bishop
    Silverberg
    Noeson
    Rundblad
    Elliot

I'm probably missing multiple names as I don't remember all the projections for prospects.

Broonz traded Joe Colbourne for Kaberle in 2011. also had the blockbuster Maxim Sauve/ Rob Flick deal.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    That's a good one I skipped.

Marchenko, Ouellet, Jansen, and Sproul are on their last year of waiver exemption.

Green, Kronwall, Ericsson, Kindl, Quincey, Dekeyser, and Smith are all under contract.

Quincey is on his last year and will probably be free to flee. That still leaves 10 likely contracts to at least 9 NHL calibre players. Burying Kindl is going to leave over 1.4 on the cap. If he doesn't make a move or two, Kenny will be eating capspace and/or losing a NHL contributor to waivers next fall. If he keeps 8 of them he also risks alienating the agent with stifled playing time.

I would expect somebody to get moved this season from Detroit's blueline. From an asset management perspective, one or two of those names should be moved, at least for rentals.

  18. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Burke has 29 million committed to the blueline (6) in 17. He has another 17.5 committed to 6 forwards.

That puts him at 46-47 with the following to extend:
Gaudreau, Monahan, Granlund, Jooris, Colborne, and Shore.
He needs 2 goalie contracts too and a handful of UFAs to round out depth if they're serious about winning stuff.

It makes little sense to extend all of those players outside Gaudreau and Monahan.

I think the Truculent one has to like all the pieces he has and he'll try to swing a large quantity for quality deal while he has a chance.

  19. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

If Kindl stays a Wing i would be surprised. He is just not cutting it. I like what the Wings are doing with the younger players and Kindl is signed for too much money for a guy who is nothing but a healthy scratch game in and game out.

He better have one hell of a camp or he's gone, imo. He's been downhill the past couple seasons, headed in the wrong direction, he just seems like the guy who goes.

How much could he even improve to secure a spot on the Wings? I just dont think he has enough... and how much time are the Wings willing to give him?
