you know my opinion on this bob, i think Neely is right.
and he's not comparing the current group to the Pres. Trophy one, last year they were awful and every F not named Bergeron underperformed.

nice article here by Gretz on Douglas Hamilton's potential impact on Calgary. Outside of McDavid, he may be the single biggest acquisition had this off season.

Hamilton will walk on to a team that seems perfectly suited for both his play and personality. He should actually have a lighter load for Calgary next year while still learning the game. he still hasn't even played in 200 NHL games yet, i kind of disagree w/ Gretz, or his wording here anyway. I don't think Hamilton will be hitting his prime for another 3 more seasons.
off ice, the smaller town Canadian market seems like it will be a great fit for him. that young locker room too.

playing w/ Chara has it's positives. those 2 could obviously cover a lot of ground.
playing w/ Chara also has its set backs, you can throw quick progression out the window. D to D to D to D to D (you get it) behind the net or at least backwards ad naseum. kind of handcuffs the offensive Dman to put it mildly. Erik Karlsson would commit Sepukku playing in this system and w/ Chara.

Hamilton is the real deal. he would show flashes of play where the opposition simply couldn't stop him. seems all about body positioning for him, not just where he was on the ice but where he was facing relative to the opposing player. This is so different than the way someone like Chara plays. Chara is very sound positionally but he can't jump the play for quick transition, the Chara waits for the opposition to get the puck and then owns the shooting lane and clubs him like a caveman. Hamilton is agile and can get the "O-ffense" (said in that beauty Canadian accent eh) going and start the odd man rush while still being in the D zone. was hoping the Bruins/Cload would go this way and open er up a bit more, losing Hamilton makes that less likely.

Calgary has the best D in the league.

  4. skinny - i suspect u have just antagonized the voices ;)

I'd rather have a 22 year old Hamilton than a 30 year old seabrook, if the voices refer to bob.

  6. the issue is not hamilton or seabrook.

the issue is applying a superlative to a D corps that includes a player the voices are very sensitive about. compared to how the voices feel about byfuglien, i am chris stewart's #1 fan.

Wideman, Russell, Brodie, Giordano, and now hamilton, the best hands down.

I bet Bennet will be their best F by season's end.

Rumor had kessel going to calgary for bennet, hiller and a first, flames changed their minds.

Burkie had enough the first time around.

i wouldn't trade Sam Bennett for Kessel straight up.

    lol, absolutely.

    Can I take option 3.

My biggest reason for not trading Seabrook is that he's the Hawks best shooter from the blueline (very average imo, but the best on the team), and he's the most effective physical dman on the team.

I doubt you would hear much griping from me if he was traded as long as his skill sets were addressed... which they're not in Chicago right now. In other words, he's worth more to Chicago than he's actually worth.

The voices still chirp me about the post 10' years. Seabrook was a mess but got a free pass because he hit people. Funny how a few hits can overshadow mistakes.

I'm not as high on Hamilton as many. I think he's going to be really good for a long time, but I'm not ready to put him among the true number 1s around the league. He's another one that I think was more valuable to Boston than he is in most places, like CGY. Boston got a crap return for him, but CGY paid appropriately given their mix of dmen in my opinion. I'm not if that makes sense or not. He was worth much more to Boston than he's worth to CGY.

For the record... they've gone batshit crazy.

Calgary has an excellent D core, the Broonz don't have anything close to that so right there's your value to the team.
Hamilton played tough minutes in Boston where he won't have to nearly as much in Calgary.

I'm pretty sure bernier or reimer would've been part of the deal going back.
