Now that Franson practically stands alone on the FA deck, does that mean he can just about write his own check? Or the opposite?

    I don't think there's too many takers.

GMs finally figured out this cap thing and how to use the numbers.

Guys are only worth so much, and teams can only gamble with x amount of capspace before it trashes their bigger plan so they're not biting on the bs like in years past it seems. Maybe its because the cap projections look worse by the day.

I have not checked his WAR stats., but I do not believe he is looked at as a difference-maker. He'd be a nice piece on several teams, but complimentary players just don't have the leverage. He cannot write his own check; he's probably waiting for a team to produce more cap room.

Even with BUF, a team with boodles of cap space for the next three years, he doesn't have the leverage. They may be able to meet his monetary goal, but may be unwilling to meet his term goal. If I was TM I'd be thinking, "we're a 20-25 place team without him, and probably a 18-24 place team with him" and ""we're not going to blow the long term goal by going more than three years".

I think he ends up signing a one year deal like what Ehrhoff did a year ago, (although it looks like the German may have miscalculated). My guess is he goes to a team that is usually in the playoff discussion.

Cody Franson is overrated, he's weak defensively and is non-aggressive. He has puck moving skills and if placed on the PP can produce like a point man should, given he has the forwards to put the puck in the net so he could get credit for the assist.

I gotta ask only because some Sabres fans have speculated about sending Legwand to DET as part of a package, (for Jurco).

I think that is borderline asinine thinking. But what do I know? Is there any point above zero% where anyone could see him skate again for his hometown team?

Id think that Legwands 1st trip to Detroit was disastrous enough for them to not take that call.

  8. anything is possible, but i think u already covered any relevant points.

  9. and to elaborate...

when we got him the last time, we needed a center badly, and thought legwand was pretty good.

now, we have a surplus of centers, and we think he sucks.

I'm trying to find the downside for the Pens on this one...I can't find it. I've thought Sutter has been generally rated too high and Bonino plays above his 1.9 cap hit on a deep team. They need the flexibility to put offense in that bottom six if they're going to do anything. This move helps.

This allows Vancouver to slot the young guys into more scoring roles, but I'm not sure Sutter is the right guy to lock into long term. I'm assuming he's not going to be in Vancouver as a rental. I guess they didn't trust Clendening much either.

Speaking of traded players, Tim Erixon is only 24. He's been traded from 4 clubs and waived once.

    This is CBS's headline

Penguins sign Fehr, trade Sutter to Sens

When you look at the central additions brought in by the Penguins Tuesday, getting both Bonino and Fehr at a total of $3.9 million versus what they were getting out of Sutter at $3.3 million on his own, it was a very good day at the office for GM Jim Rutherford.

    I concur

Doesn't look good for Clendening if he's getting bumped...again, from a team with competition for more ice time. Still, even if its just Bonino for Sutter and space + a 2nd, I like the deal.

    Wait a minute.

Rutherford traded Sutter twice now, that's significant. Benning may have been right to overpay.

Still, I'm not ready to side with the voices, I like the trade alot.

the biggest thing that benning did was allow horvat to slowly progress up the center ranks and not force him into a scoring role. sutter is an established face-off guy with defensive minded responsibilities and is very good on the penalty-kill, which will give henrik more time off. the nucks do not have a lot of money left and just re-signed sven baertchi to a one year deal. don't know how many loonies he got. benning will continue to wheel and deal this summer. clendening, if you can't find ice time with the nucks, time to start learning some russian a,b,c's.

Here's Matty's cousin Joe, at it again:

Three playoff teams all willing to part with their best shooting dman...thanks for that Joe, good thinking. Realistic options.

So the forward group that won the presidents trophy in 14' years ago wasn't as good as the 16' group I guess. Downgrading 3 positions is better...kick their ass seabass! *CRAZY*
