The Dallas Stars acquired forward Patrick Sharp and defenceman Stephen Johns from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenceman Trevor Daley and forward Ryan Garbutt.

The Stars will retain 50% of Garbutt's salary and cap hit, while they will take the full cap hit on both players acquired.

I've officially changed my mind. Zawaski has a real source. Chicago has a leaker.

    Keep tony out of this.

from the Dallas side this has to be seen as a big acquisition for them. The retained salary won't matter much for them and probably strengthened their bargaining power a decent amount.
Obviously getting a Patrick Sharp is the score here. He'll get the opportunity to get all of the offensive minutes that he can handle.
Losing Daley will hurt a team that needs D badly, but they could really use a bigger physical D like Stephen Johns. Klingberg, Goligoski, Honka, and Jokipakka aren't the most truculent sort. Jamie Oleksiak can't be too happy about this.

This is a big addition, you put sharp in there now with seguin, benn and spezza, if they can't make the playoffs now then fergetabboutit!

if it was any Dallas F that played significant mins other than Garbutt or Roussell I wouldn't think this was a bad deal for the Hawks. Pretty sure that the entire Ditch shares their feelings towards those 2 guys.

Im not sure Johns would've ever played for the Hawks. Might not even be able to crack Dallas. we'll see. Im assuming that he's a little quicker these days than his ND ones.

  10. According to Hockeycap.com, the Hawks are still 1.2 million over the cap limit, Now the question is how do they get under? Is Brent Seabrook the next player to go. That's a 5.8 million dollar hit, 3.8 which could go to sign Oduya bringing them under the cap and giving them a full 23 man roster.

i like how you're thinking Mikey because I would love Seabrook on my team. general fanager has the Hawks at almost $1m under the cap, not sure which of these 2 is more accurate.
I'd think Bickell will be unloaded for peanuts and then Kruger re-signed long term.

that Duncan Keith contract is so stupid. he should be making almost twice that.
    screw you Stan.

  13. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Well said about Oleksiak. They had some other bad dumpsters too, Johns makes them useless now.

Daley is going to hurt. He had a bad year just like Sharp but both will rebound well imo.

Dallas won this trade, but Chicago wasn't smoked.

  14. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Yeah, gotta love a gm willing to bend the rules to make the wins.

Hossa's cap hit has been a steal too.

How much were the Hawks over the cap for the playoffs? Was it 5 or 6 million? it was so many I forgot.

Remember Huet? Had they closed that loophole, there probably wouldn't have been 3 cups let alone 7 players with 3 cups.

  15. This is what Hockeycap.com has for Chicago

    $71,805,962
    2015-16 CAP HIT
    $84,465,000
    2015-16 SALARY EXPENDITURE

Hossa would be a great trade for a team because his cap salary after this season drops and eventually goes down to a million a year. Yea, he'll probably be retired by the time he makes a million a year, but he could help a team now especially one that needs a high hit to stay above the floor.

I'd love to get Hossa. I've always been a big fan of his.

lennie all over Sweeney trading someone to Arz or Carolina to free up space for Franson.
Seidenberg could come back strong but Id trade him and his $4x 3 deal. not so use Id then sign Franson, depends on the numbers.

  18. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

There's alot of bad money out there.

  19. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

Im interested in Franson, especially on a short term. there's a big need there.
