I've had a little time to take in the Kessel trade and read up on some details regarding the deal. The Pens gave up some youth to acquire some necessary and immediate help. I was hoping to see Kapanen grow in the system and become a superstar in the holy city of three rivers. The team obviously underestimated James Neal's ... ahem ... worth, when he was sent to the Preds, but Pittsburgh got a solid player (Hornqvist) in return, so the damage was minimal. It is plainly obvious that TEH PHIL is a better scorer than Neal and there is the undeniable fact that Kessel hasn't missed a regular season game in five years. Neal's scoring topped out one season with the Penz when he popped 40 goals. His next best output was 27. But Neal missed a lot of games due to injury and sometimes a suspension... or two. With Kessel playing on the second line with Malkin, you could see 40+, maybe even 50 goal seasons from our newly anointed chocolate chip cookie eating savior.

I'm calling for all devout believers to pay homage at the Temple of THE PHIL at your earliest convenience. We shall be rewarded for accepting this freak of nature into our fold, for he will deliver us unto the glory once again.
    Sincerely,

I see the br00nz have been active in the FA pool. Good move dumping Reilly and the Drooler for Jimmy Hayes. Jimmy is an up and coming scoring machine. Then I see they acquired Zac Rinaldo... L00ch sans the scoring. Two steps forward, one step back.

what is weird is that i tried to find a pic of kessel on his back. he eschews contact so much that there isn't one from his entire career.

like a turtle he'll do anything to stay off his back.
i honestly love how when he's talking to the media he ends responses/statements with ", right?"
he's due for an injury. doesn't make sense that such a doughy guy hasn't broken down regardless of how much he avoids contact.

He knows what he's doing with all that internal, cookie cushioning... he gets hit and knocked over on occasion, but 'bounces' right back up. :)

you never really know w/ Dealer Donnie. he's the wildcard.

    Nice lose-lose for both teams.

Trotz gets more even keeled 5 on 5 play throughout the regular season as he sacrifices the matchup challenges a player like Brouwer poses when the games mean something.

STL takes a step backwards regardless, no choice and the depth gets leaner and leaner below the active roster. Hitch is going to make poopies trying to get this to work in his system.

Is Trotz going to let anybody besides Backstrom and Ovechkin play offense though?

  14. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

Too much getting in his mouth imo.

Maybe Pit will hit the jackpot and get some type of captial investment group to buy the the team too. Then they can really get their junk in a vice, but it will limit damaging acquisitions since everything would be a sell off.

I actually think the PHIL acquisition will work out as its supposed to like it did in Toronto.

The problem is the rest of the roster, not TEH PHIL

  16. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

After acquiring him in a trade last week, the Bruins signed Jimmy Hayes to a 3-year, $6.9 million contract on Monday.

    Swamp kitties have
Huberdeau, Jokinen, Pirri, and Howden on LW
Jagr, smith, Trocheck, and Grimaldi at RW

I wonder if Dale is going to make a move. *WRITE*

Put this in the category of "rank speculation", although I prefer "informed conjecture".

I have probably spent more time than most comparing other teams' org. strengths & weaknesses. Buffalo's strength has been prospects & cap space for far too long for my preference. They now have an outline for an NHL roster - the team can focus more attention on what they already have rather than what they need.

A particular strength is at F. The D is thin after a few top prospects. (BTW, Mark Pysyk is likely to surprise many this year; he could be very good.)

NJ appears to be an enigma. It's like they're too proud to admit that they need to rebuild. But, that org. has great depth at D. I think a good old-fashioned hockey trade, (where both teams trade strength for need), could be in the works. Again, just conjecture.

Same guy that warned Chicago fans about Saad not signing (nobody believed his source, not even the guy that wrote it), says Sharp could be traded this weekend, with salary retained.

    Notice the word "could".

I still don't buy into anybody have a good source for the Blackhawks.
