I don't know if getting on board is a good idea, but it's reason enough to NOT to jump off the ledge...assuming one hadn't already.

  4. matty, it's just nice to not have a financial bottleneck that most other teams don't have. u never know when that could bite u in the ass.

dammit, this sucks. i just felt a good feeling for the bruins. i need to go kick a puppy now.

It would have helped sign Hamilton and while they worked the rest of the roster since they have a summer limit of +10%.

So in this case, it did absolutely nothing for them since Beaker had shipped.

The implications for Dale and the Swamp kitties are very interesting. He's just positioned himself to sell at the deadline with the Savard contract. Even if Kulikov and Bjugstad are moving, he still has to bring up or sign a couple more players AND extend Petrovic and Huberdeau. Making the floor shouldn't be a concern unless they're blowing it up.

  6. so, what you're saying is, having already been fucked by it once, there was no incentive to make sure it couldn't happen again? ;)

If the Penguins make the playoffs next season, the Leafs receive their first-round pick and send Pittsburgh back the second-rounder they currently own from the Daniel Winnik trade.

If the star-studded Penguins miss the playoffs, the first-round/second-round pick exchange will happen in 2017 instead, and if they miss each of the next two seasons Toronto gets Pittsburgh's 2017 second-rounder.

So why couldn't we put conditions in the original Kessel trade...

anyone hear anything about Bjugstad's back? that has to be awful news long term for that kid. a player that relies on his physical advantage and play has back surgery as a puppy? its too bad for the game more than anything, he's pretty awesome.

  10. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

He was walking in April and talking about changes in his offseason prep focusing on core and flexibility. I don't know what the procedure was but I never got the impression it was a serious career threatening injury that was repaired.

  11. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

hopefully not a big deal but if we know "back surgery" i think its probably a pretty big deal. opening up the back is last resort and they usually down play the severity of injuries to the media. that hard hitting Miami hockey media will get the scoop Im sure.

  12. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

The Miami Herald sent multiple interns on the case.

Dale has to be up to something big.
    Way too quiet in Sunrise.

i think yes and no. obviously would've helped w/ Hamilton but I don't think money was the reason for the departure so its a moot point, if I'm right.

Smith's deal was too risky for the Bruins moving forward for the next 2 years. PC signed him early last year and Smith then struggled badly. I like averting that risk. Im not expecting Hayes to be some sort of a star or anything but he'll have a role here.

hopefully benning treats prust as a rental and moves him to a contender before the trade deadline for one billion dollars. i wasn't surprised with the kassian trade since he thought his game was progressing and desjardins did not. with bieksa moved they needed a body to protect some of their players in the western conference. nucks sign richard bachman, willie coached him in the ahl (dallas affiliate). nucks still have a few rfa's to sign, wouldn't be surprised if another roster player is shipped.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I wasn't implying it would have mattered. It was the only reason Boston stood to gain by moving Savard.

I think Beleskey was for Smith's role and Hayes for Lucic's. Again, like the Lucic trade, Sweeney wins on paper. The problem is how it fits together.

Beleskey and Hayes are replacing Lucic and Smith collectively with more years on the books and less flexibility in the short term and maybe the long term with only the 2nd and 3rd years offering a window assuming JHayes signs a one year bridge. What's the point or replacing the player types, with lesser players, if they're taking themselves out of contention?. They went from sure-thing to bubble for the playoffs...and now they're trying to have the same type of team.

Mr. Myagi comes to mind. Sweeney's Karate is building a team

    Scott is out there.

He is. They could use that one billion dollars to entice him to come to Vancouver.

i don't know man, the Bruins got better today than they were yesterday. After what went down at the draft that has me ecstatic.
Maybe Beleskey is only Reilly Smith, maybe he's better. Kevin Hayes has size so he "fills Lucic's role" but Im just happy that any other player, other than BF himself, is filling that role.
Losing Hamilton sucks and paying anything for Rinaldo hurts me as a hockey fan, not just a Broonz fan. Other than those moves Im happy w/ what Sweeney has done. The Rinaldo thing isn't major, just seems stewpid on principal. Also, I really don't like how the Bruins were juvenile in turning down PC's Edmonton deal. That's embarrassing.

Why did Beleskey sign in Boston for less than what Anaheim offered? I don't think that's a bad deal at all from the team perspective. If he's still top 9 and playing any special teams minutes at the end of that deal he'll be earning it.

Last Friday they filled the cupboards like no one else did. 6 of the top 52 picks in what has long been seen as the next great draft, Im not upset about that. That '16 SJ pick can realistically be a top 10 to boot.

tons of swings from Sweeney, looked like all misses at first but Im not so sure they were. I think he was banking on moving up the draft but couldn't reasonably. I agree that the Hamilton loss was terrible considering nothing of substance was brought back for immediate help. With the things Hamilton has since said and his accepted deal being essentially the same as the one he supposedly turned down from the Bruins, I find it hard to believe that he was ever coming back here. As you pointed out earlier, the offer sheet has finally come in to play. Much rather have the '15 picks than '16 ones, not sure what was out there in terms of immediate help.
