There's bad news if you want to trade Phil to BUF. Then there's bad news.

First, BUF is not on his list. Even if it were a bad contract (Hodgson is the only one) I don't see how that trade could get done.

Second, I don't want Phil the pussy on my young team. Sure, he has some talent but it scares the bejeebers outta me when a player goes full-pussification on the ice. His slashing at John Scott's ankles was pathetic - it was full pussy mode that ranks there with the entire team doing nothing when Lucic ran Miller.

This is the worst time to trade the phil, let him play a year under babs to up his worth, then cash in.

Okposo for Lucic, let Garth overpay Bigfat and Sweeney overpay Okposo. would free up $3.2 for the Broonz right away.

Phil can finish a play. If Bylsma doesn't get offense going on that team, they're fucked.

He's a numbers guy as Dan said before, the only thing that kept him from neutering the offense was that Sid and Geno had time before he got there and they had more pull with the franchise than the rookie coach.

Phil sucks and all that, I get it. (I just don't buy it very easily) His contract is front loaded, he's going to be pretty easy to trade after 2018 when his salary dips below his cap hit.

Moulson and Gionta are wastes. Hodgson is what he is. Buffalo is just hemorrhaging ice time and cap dollars. They have redundant pieces.

-Kessel's NTC has Chicago, Boston, LA, MTL, Pit, PHI, MIN, and NYR allegedly.

-Chicago, Boston, and LA are out barring massive hand-of-god type interventions to change how they do business.

-Cheveldayoff still has to extend Galchenyuk and buy another dman and wing, he won't be close. Gallagher provides too much value at RW. Even though I see a fit on the ice in MTL, I don't see a fit with what the FO is doing.

-Minnesota has space but there are a few things going on there. They need a number 1 goalie. They need to sign a bunch of dmen, and they need to extend Granlund quick (not sure why his name isn't rumored in an offersheet, Fletcher is in a bind compared to LA, STL, CHI, etc. as they have a bunch of contracts to write). Also, the top scoring lines have too many finesse players and they have no shortage of speed. Unless they move Pominville back to TOR (has his own NMC), there really isn't a spot on the ice that will help his team be more dangerous than they are now. They'll lose their bottom 6 strength without substantial gain at the top.

-NYR has Sather. He's nuts so who knows? NYR is set in net and at the blueline (still need depth). Stepan hasn't been extended yet and they really need a top center. While they have the space to had Phil and keep Stepan, they'll burn out the depth that took them to the CF, pres trophy (I think it's telling of a well built team), and finals appearance. If Glen doesn't want Nash long term maybe there's a shot.

-That leaves 2, Pit and PHI.

Rutherford is the crazy uncle that still fears the commie takeover. He might grab Phil because he's uhmerican awsum. They still need to sigh half a roster's worth of players.

Hextall needs to win soon or he'll be fired and bumped up to the suite with Holmgren. Simmonds is a very limited RW with tremendous value. They need to shed contracts like Vinnie, and they have a bunch of nice prospects now. Unlike Pit, I think they have the assets to move without setting the franchise backwards. This is the only place I see PHIL being able to land on his list.

Since I only see one or two, I think there's going to be a window to get him elsewhere, like Buffalo. He's going to get run out of town one way or another. Set Eichel up with a scorer with NHL hands and speed, even just in spot duty. Moulson isn't that guy.

If they're gutting the team and "retooling", Phil's fucked. They'll be easy to defend against and Kessel's numbers will be steaming poop imo. Now is the time in my opinion.

    Detroit can play d.
TB will be better at d
MTL will decide to commit to better structure
Boston won't be the hot mess in their own zone like last year.

TOR is going to have a tougher time scoring, especially if Ottawa is back in the NHL.

i don't think so hbob. he needs to shed 1 or 2 big contracts and they already said they won't buy out vinny, so once he gets rid of 1 or 2 contracts, will be the time he should win. got 3-4 top guys in the minors to call up, plus this year's 2 first rd picks and things can happen. i don't think hextall is going anywhere. he's their man at gm. he will get it done once the money is freed up. right now his hands are tied.

Wow, huge win for the Sens.
Surprised divisional opponents would swap. Tim probably didn't mind the overpayment since he knew Lehner.

I could be way off. I just can't imagine PHI doing a multi year rebuild unless ownership changes.

They're on track to burn another prime year off of Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds. The latter has a limited window and he should be moved while they can net a big return since they're at least 2, probably 3 years from contention.

hbob-2-3 yrs from contention may be true, but why fire hextall or get a new gm? he knows the team. give him a chance to show his value in the role. you know me. i have 0 patience for nonsense and losing, but even i am allowing hextall some leeway here in building the right team for the future.

    I don't want Hextall fired.
I had nothing bad to say about him until he actually got there. Not a fan of the coaching decisions. I thought the player movements have been pretty good to this point.

The reason I think he could get fired/promoted is because Snider is a maniac and he doesn't believe in wasting seasons. They already wasted one, without fixing too many fundamental problems, now they're wasting more.

I agree with Hextall's approach overall to this point, I just don't trust his handlers to be patient. Even a market like PHI can have inevitable fan backlash. I worry that the bosses will change their mind about what they had apparently agreed to in terms of rebuilding.

hbob-i hope not. my 2 demands....call up the young kids and let them play during the season and not in the AHL and try and free up more cap space with a trade or two. someone must go. please.

Not loving the Lehner/Legwand trade. The extra first - especially in this draft - gives a team a great deal of flexibility during the draft. I just have to think this decreases the odds of the Sabres being better in the long run.

On the other hand, I will concede that TM knows prospects better than most reading this, and that's especially true for anyone in the Sens' system. The team certainly can use a veteran to buy time for Eich and Reinhart to develop without too much pressure, but Dave appears to be in sharp decline. Does he even have two more years in him? One? (His one remaining year at $3MM helps with the cap and does not put the team in a future bind, so for this team it is a very good contract.)

This could be the defining trade of TM's GM tenure. He converted the most valuable piece from Darcy's last trade into a young G with promise and a formerly great player. He's going to do more dealing, but this is the one that people can point to and easily contrast the past & current GM's.

Why the hell are things so quite in New Jersey?

I'm starting to get uncomfortable about that.

Did Lou really give up the keys after all?
