Next year will be very interesting. They're going to have to lean on 4 to 6 rookies even if they unload 4 or 5 salaries and replace them with vets. They're still in the mix for Reilly (CLB pick in NCAA) and Tikhonov (AZ property in KHL) too.

It's really tough to project a lineup. We'll get a good feel for how good the scouting department really is come the deadline of next year

yes. used to be St. BigFat but he lost his saint status.

not sure but Lucic is still fairly young. i would never make that trade if Im Arz.

from this I'm assuming that Bickell is also on the trade block? for this reason alone I hope he's not.

can anyone verify this? if this is true why would anyone send an offer sheet for more than 5 years? i guess if the deal was already at a max compensation level it wouldn't matter but other than that I don't know why any offer sheet would be for more than 5.

Sources for Chicago rumors are always spot on the last 7 years.

Since he's making 4 million and getting scratched, I think it's reasonable to assume that he's gone. Since any serious contender needs a huge body that can play in the top 9 without being a blackhole of defensive or offensive responsibility, I think it's also very possible others move and he stays.

I have no fucking clue what Chicago would do.

There's even a good argument that Versteeg should stay.

The good news is that there's no shortage of "experts" on Chicago's offseason.

This is true for the current CBA.

The reason for the 5 year limit for cap calculations is to prevent deep pocketed teams from softening the compensation. The cap hit is calculated the same for the team, it only matters for compensation.

    Example:

Dougie Hamilton signs a 7 for 40. His cap hit is 5.7. His cap hit for compensation purposes is 8 million.

Teams still have reason to sign to a max deal, they just don't get the added bonus of skirting the compensation table.

Cox said tonight that Mantha and the 19th pick are available.

If Detroit does this for Dion now, I'm completely in support of those that would like to tar and feather Kenny this summer as there was absolutely no reason to hang on to the first, Mantha, and another prospect for this deal at the deadline (assuming the price is similar).

GMTM says he's spoken to five teams about a G, and he's rather forthright on these things, so there's no reason to doubt that. He seems confident that he will get one in trade, and what he likes in the position is also well known (size). He's looking for a "youngish" keeper that has established some NHL credentials (23-27 y.o.). There are three teams that we can be confident are part of the five: VAN, OTT, and NYR.

I think it's most likely that they'll make a deal with the Canucks for one of their trio, but not for one that has ever worn the Sabres' crest. OTT could make the most sense since he knows these players much better, but that also makes them the hardest team to deal with. No one in the Murray clan will want to be the one mocked around the Christmas table.

Talbot played back up for one of the best on a very good team. There's also a long list of G's in similar circumstances that have never lived up to the hype. I think the NYR are smart to sell while his trade value may exceed his worth - especially since they have the position set for another few years. (I am not doubting Talbot, but realistically we have to acknowledge that he may not be all that.) It really depends on the cost, and this could get interesting since the NYR may also want to move a baggage contract or two. BUF is certainly in a fine position to take on a bad contract so long as it does not run more than three years.

This is strictly my guess, but I think Lack is most likely to be BUF's #1 next year. They'll probably get the trade done before or on draft day. BUF will select a G in this draft, but it would be nice to take the heat off using 21, 31, or 51 for that.

I hope Davidson could snag a veteran from the Blues if that were true. We need some more help.

There were rumors of CLB looking at Rundblad from Chicago.

Kakalainen drafted him. Won't be very expensive as he probably won't be slotted higher than a 6 or 7.

The NYI are offering Kyle Okposa with the hope of getting a first or second. Thanks to Garth & Tommy Vanek they don't pick until 3/#72.

Buffalo may have a glut at RW in about three years, but for this year RW & G are critical needs. I doubt that #51, (originally the NYI's pick), would be enough by itself. Based on TM's stated objective of getting good as quickly as possible, I could see him offering #31.

As a side note, I expect he'll trade for a G on or before draft-day. There are a lot of options. I also expect they'll go after a vet C in FA. Ideally, Eichel will not be thrown into 1C duty as a teenager. I'd love it if Goose (Paul Gausted) were to come back home.

I think Murray should make a major move, quantity for quality.
    Get Phil-the-thrill.

If Buffalo is going to step forward, time to start racking up the goals. Worry about defense later, get the kids flying around. Phil can finish.

  16. he sure can.

    well done lulz.

either way, Phil has to sign off on any deal. his limited NMC he picked mostly elite/cap concerned teams. almost all of them couldn't afford him unless they sent back serious contracts to Toronto. i think Phil picked those teams so that he won't, almost can't, be traded.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

Dan and I have already had that conversation and Im in 100% agreement w/ him. long term view on Eichel is all that matters.

Toronto has to pick up a contract in order to trade Phil, imo.

and probably some of Phil's money. i wonder how much, probably entirely dependent on the return.
