I hadn't realized how much went in to the making of this version of the Lightning.

Callahan, Johnson, and Palat were all due raises after last season. Yzerman signed them to a total of $12.5 per season. This left them in a tight spot with the cap.

Draft day last year they acquired Jason Garrison ($4.6 cap hit) and a bag of peanuts from Vancouver for a 2nd rounder.
TB used compliance buyout on Ryan Malone.

Still had Teddy Purcell and his awful $4.5 cap hit. Worked a deal out w/ Edmonton to acquire Sam Gagner for Teddy Purcell straight up. Later that day they then flipped Gagner and BJ Crombeen ($1.15 hit) to Arizona for a 6th rounder. TB retained $1.6 of Gagner's deal but in the process of that day saved over $4 on the cap. They then poached Stralman ($4.5 per/ 5 years) and Boyle ($2/3) from the Rags.

the Purcell for Gagner for cap space was a beauty move. Bishop was then signed in August for just under $6 per.

Look for the blackhawks to move Sharp, Sabres might be giving them a first and plus. The $5.9M is a little too heavy with TT looking to get more soon.

As much as I like Sharp I think he is in decline. For TM to add a player he has to fit one of two categories:
    1) He can contribute to a SC contending team in three or four years, or
    2) He comes cheap. I am not talking about his contract/salary, but what Buffalo would have to give up to obtain him.

Unless the Hawks get out of character and peddle Sharp for less than what he's currently worth, I doubt he'll move to the Sabres.

THW may one of the most unreliable sources I know of. Still, I agree that Sharp is probably not going to go to BUF.

Wasn't sure to post this here or in the Draft thread...
Anyway, the Desert Dingoes seem to think that there are ONLY two players worth drafting in the first round... just move this team to Vegas already.

Sabres might be targeting 24 yr old sens goalie Robin Lehner, the price would be the 2nd first rounder plus a prospect. *Yes, it's 3:20 and obviously having trouble sleeping.

    instead of a 1st born + 2nd born + helicopter, how about #14 + Looocheeech + helicopter?

This definitely could happen. I'd give 'em the NYI second and their choice of B. Martin or Florentino.

I don't see Sharp going to the Sabres who are trying to get younger building, not older. After the season Sharp had, I think he gets less than his present contract. Your supposed to plat better to get a good contract. I agree with Dan. I think he's in those declining years......

I didn't read it but maybe I should have. There was an article titled Hawks splitting up Toews and Kane?

Just for fun, who would you keep ot trade if it came down to it? You could also ask the same question with Crosby and Malkin, hypothetically?

  13. i'll assume that meant they were putting them on different lines, not trading one of them.

That was not about trading one of them.

I would like having Sharp, it just doesn't make much sense for Buffalo unless they got him real cheap in the trade. Chicago doesn't lose too many trades.

  15. beat ya by 13 seconds, dan. try to keep up ;)

You baaastard! I'll get you one day. If I hadn't put in that throw-away line about Sharp I'd have had you this time.

    focus, man, focus! :)

that trade of timmonen to chicago gets better and better. pick is now a 2nd rd pick and not a 4th.

Didn't say that the Hawks don't lose any trades; they don't lose many. I actually hated the Vermette trade, (a first and Dahlbeck), but his postseason seems to vindicate/justify that one.

The Leddy trade turned to shit for them, too. As did the Morin trade. But with these and the Timmo trade we're not talking about CHI moving major assets. They're tweaking at the fringes for rentals and another Cup drive - or to give them cap flexibility. Sharp remains a major asset, albeit one in decline. I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved, but not at a price that would be worthwhile for a team like the Sabres. (Now, add Saad to the package - and give Pegula the time to charm him into a contract - and we've got the makings of a trade that GMTM would consider.)

I think that Saad is nearly untouchable at this point. He's still a RFA so they have him by the balls, unless an offer sheet comes. There's speculation every year about offer sheets and only once has there been an offer sheet that wasn't matched and the last offer sheet even signed was what???.Shea Weber a few years ago? and w/ that we're talking an ultra elite defenseman.
All that said, I think Hamilton is ripe for an offer sheet more than anyone. Im assuming that St Louis isn't going to dick around w/ Tarasenko, they have the flexibility to pay him well.
Id think that Saad will be more likely to be moved after his next deal, which Im assuming will be a bridge, if ever.
Oduya and Seabrook could very well be on the move this summer, it would make sense anyway.
