You can't trade a player like that unless it improves your team for the present, fans won't accept it.

let me say this another way-- well im sure club box, which is for corporations, are over $1000, but a company pays for it. Center Ice may have a face value of $300-600 but they will never get it in hand. Over the last year and a half, Flyers tix have plummeted. I paid top dollar for the Eric Lindros retirement night. I got the tix as a 3 ticket deal special the Flyers were running. I thought the game would be a sell-out and hard to get. the joke was on me. the game was not a sell-out and game day tix went for $75-90 bucks lower level.

but fans don't control the front office. many fan favorites get traded skinny. nature of the business.

wayne gretzky got traded and all of edmonton cried and was on suicide watch. it happened.

$235 american is about $300 canadian, so I'm sure lots of playoff tix are that much on the street or at the box.

It depends when, gretzky was traded before the season started. You can't trade simmonds if you're making the playoffs.
The leafs had JVR last year on an expiring deal and knew they weren't bringing him back. They could've easily traded him for a 1st plus more at the deadline. They couldn't do it because they were making the playoffs and everyone knew they weren't gonna win the cup.

Technically they could trade anyone without a NTC, but if you announce you're going to be buyers, simmonds will stay on the team.

Ouch. That sucks. I get what your saying. I would've dealt his ass. Hahaha.

Try it, the media and fans will rip you apart. Could you imagine trading him to an EC team and you end up meeting them in the playoffs and he goes off every game.

As far as what? Trading a player?

you keep mentioning the gms would get torn apart by media and fans ...

...so the hell what ? like they care what they say ?

It all depends on the timing of the trade, it's not only the fans, there's the media and the ownership too. The gm has to do what he sees is best for the team and he also has a salary cap to account for.

You can't trade a player if you're in the playoff hunt without getting anything in return that will help you in your playoff run. If you trade a key piece for a future pick or prospect, that's throwing up a white flag before you even start the playoffs. Then why would the fans even want to show up to the playoff games if you're telling them that you don't stand a chance and give up.

The fans in montreal didn't want to trade Subban, he was loved in the city and donated to charities and supported the local childrens hospital. The fans have no idea what goes on in the background behind the scenes and apparently they had no choice but to trade him against the fans wishes. On the other hand they got a good player in return and he's the captain, so the fans can forget fast if you win.

If the fans continually boo a player and make his life miserable, then a trade would probably be what's best for everybody, then yeah, the gm could listen to the fans in that situation.

i don't know Wayne Simmonds value. I see your point of trading him or something like him and not getting back someone that can help for the rest of this season versus the future (picks, prospect). I still think he has value though to get someone back now to help the Flyers for the rest of this season.

Only thing I see would be getting back #4 d-man with some term.

  17. Catfish Guest

then i don't do that deal. i think he has more value then that and they don't need a #4 defensemen. they just called up Myers, who is a beast. Need O, not D. Who the heck knows what they do? Fletcher changes his mind daily, so i don't know what he will do?

skinny-hearing last night the LEAFS are back on the Gudas trail even with Muzzen. Boston is still after Simmonds. Huge article on FB last night about whether or not the Flyers should trade Ghost. He has regressed IMO and can't play defense, gets exposed a lot and his point shot on offense is NEVER on net ! Never seen a guy miss more than him. I like the kid but he's just a liability back on defense and his offense isn't Bobby Orr's to justify his bad defense. if the right offer comes, he may have to go.

I heard the LEAFS will struggle to make the salary cap with all of their high salaries next season, so the article mentioned either the 1 guy you did or a 2020 first rd pick? 2020 is a long ways away to get a pick for Ghost. See what's out there as offers I guess...?
