Gonna have to sign D at some point after next season, lots of guys up.

The cap sucks, they should have an allowable percentage to go over with a penalty attatched.

Nathan Horton has $5.3M against the cap, LITR him at the start of the 2019 season or they could trade him but that could cost them a high pick. Also the cap should go up to $84M by 2019, so that's about another $9.3M right there.

that would ruin hockey in canada

Baseball used to do this, it was called a luxury tax.

Baseball does have a luxury tax on anything over $197M, good luck seeing the jays ever spend that amount.

Leafs are in good shape right now to sign some short term one year deals, they have $15M left. That's where they could be headed, along with giving nylander $6.5M.

I like the NHL cap structure. Clear, concise, Black and white.
MLB is so unfair, teams like the Red Sox and Yankees have a huge advantage over teams like the Padres and Rays.

Baseball is in the stupid zone (197M) and yet the rays haave managed in the past. I'd like to see something like a 10% allowable in hockey with a penalty attatched, i.e cash or picks.

Hate seeing teams like the blackhawks lose their momentum because of the cap. Look at what its done to fans like bob, hiding out in a bunker.

I think Bob found Tim Thomas’ bunker by mistake and he’s being held captive by Timmy.

Baseball and basketball do it. Take a look at how successful those models have been for league parity and competition. This is a bad idea.

Baseball has teams outspending each other by over $100M. I'm just talking about 10%.

I'll be emailing the nhl head offices about this, as well as confronting bettman face to face at the hall of fame.

Penz are checking out Skinner and Max Patches. Brassard is being dangled as bait here and there.

Shea Weber recently had knee surgery and will be out a reported 4-6 months. This is on top of the foot surgery he just had that ended last season for him.
He has 8 years left on his deal. If he retires early (seems more likely than not) Nashville pays the recapture penalty, something along the lines of $25m divided by the number of years left on his deal.
What a ludicrous contract Paul Holmgren offer sheeted Weber with and what a terrible decision by Nashville to match. Would have been 4 1st rounders heading to Nashville and Philly would’ve been the ones bent over the way Nashville currently is.

This talk about Karlsson headed to Tampa is interesting (though I don't like to give credence to these "sourced" reports until there's something concrete). Tampa would have to make room for his salary, in addition to giving up pieces in trade. Last word was that the two teams were trying to get a third party into the transaction to complete the deal. I would imagine this is because Ottawa is wanting something from Tampa that they're not willing to give, and Tampa is hoping they can get off easy by having another team to potentially soften the trade for them.

If you're a third party team, what're you hoping to get from Tampa that Ottawa isn't willing to take? If the answer is "no", currently, who steps in to change that, and how? Because if Ottawa is telling Tampa to give more or get out, Karlsson may well be going elsewhere, regardless of reports.

I don't get the urgency, they have a whole year to deal him. They could play the waiting game while trying to score a big return.

I’m thinking a 3rd party could be involved for financial reasons. Ottawa wants out of that Bobby Ryan deal. I could see Ottawa sending BR to some team with cap space while Tampa compensates that team with picks and/or prospects. Everyone would get something.
