Sen's players are saying Karlsson faked going into the Tampa dressing room when he got to the rink. This is hilarious.

Frank Vatrano was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended Cathedral High School, however he later transfered to Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan to play in the U.S. National Team Development Program. He played for the Boston Jr. Bruins in 2009–10 scoring 8 goals before playing within the U.S. National Development Team Program. After originally committing to Boston College, Vatrano opted to return to the Boston Jr. Bruins before starting his collegiate career the following season with the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

I can see why Matty isn't upset with the Masshole.

He “opted” might be a bit misleading. He didn’t pass the NCAA clearinghouse. He was slated to play at BC for a few years and I got to see a ton of him around the rinks beforehand. This kid has always been able to fire the puck.
He wound up having a really short college career and jumped early. From all accounts he’s a great kid from a great family. Wish him luck. Also nice for the Bruins to get a 3rd for a kid stuck behind other young Fs.

Getting a 3rd for an undrafted free agent that will not break the top six is usually a good move. Was this a roster move to get under 50 and give some wiggle room at the trade deadline? You really, really need Thomas Vanek.

The Devils and Rangers dealing with each other?! Never!

Well that was never until tonight. The Devils get Grabner.

Yikes, Grabner was drafted by the Nucks in the 1/14 while ranked 98th in my draft prospect ranking in 2006. The Austrian was so surprised at the pick that he blew chunks for a few years. Traded to Florida for Ballard shortly thereafter, soon was waived by Florida.

    lol, Thomas Vanek.
You might be on to something about getting under 50.

Definitely helps Pittsburgh immediately. Shedding Cole’s money is the only way to make this work. Assuming Ottawa is eating some money also.
Gustavsson was a 2nd round pick in ‘16 and his stats are slightly better than last year’s so I’d assume he still has something near 2nd round value. Goalie is a position of need in Ottawa’s pipeline so it certainly helps there.

Wouldn’t mind landing Hoffman now that the Ottawa fire sale has begun.

Hoffman is one of my favorite's of the trade candidates.

I also like to see F's like Grabner and Brassard go off the market since that makes this more of a sellers' market for teams looking to make a deep playoff run. The number of teams looking for scoring exceeds the number F's available.

    E. Kane is going to be expensive (a late first - or equivalent - a highly regarded prospect, and a roster player). I've maintained for some time that the roster player is more likely to benefit the buyer's cap than help the Sabres.

I also think Kane is most likely to be worth the price buyers are shelling out these days.

That’s the exact cost for Brassard so the question is whether or not Kane has the same value as Brassard.
Kane the more dynamic player but Brassard the better contract and position.

It ultimately is debatable. I am, of course, biased*. But I rate Kane higher, especially if a team wants to try and retain him after this season. He is almost exactly 4 years younger. He's also not only the more dynamic of the two, I think he's one of the most dynamic players in the league.

A lot of fans rag on Kane's character and spout off about how he's not a team-player. (Often that's Buffalo fans, but I will remind everyone that Buffalo fans can be as douchebaggish as the best douche bags out there.) Kane has literally actually not done anything to deserve this. He is a real asset to the Sabres' lockerroom and I truly regret that he's going to be traded.

People speak about his lack of playoff production as if being on shitty teams is his fault. I will remind everyone (I'm a Sabres fan, so being a douche and constantly reminding everyone of everything is a birth right) that even Crosby did not have any playoff production ... until he got to skate in the playoffs. Kane is BUILT for playoff hockey. I think he could be the most valuable acquisition made this month.

(* I will remind everyone that as soon as we claim to be a fan of a team, we define ourselves as being biased.)

This douche bag thing is growing on me.

I think Kane is worth more than Brassard, but that takes nothing away from PIT.

Why did the league block the Brassard deal?

  20. skinny123 Guest

It's not clear, it has something to do with getting Brassards salary to fit in. They got rid of coles $2.1M, it's still not enough. I think bettmans taking issue with vegas or the sens eating part of brassards salary.
