    Ekman has a brutal +/-.

Evander Kane is not a potential trade; he's a trade that hasn't happened just yet. The only questions about his deal are: 1) how soon, 2) to which team, and 3) for how much?

Like an old scratched record we are constantly reminded of EK's characters flaws. I'm going tell you that whoever buys him is likely to be very happy. He's an extremely hard worker, he's liked in the lockerroom, and he brings skill sets that are very rarely packaged in one human body. Those skill sets happen to be precisely what teams need for postseason success.

He's going to be pricey, therefore only teams with a legitimate chance at winning the SC should bid aggressively.

Looking at SC contenders and then narrowing them down to those who should add scoring from the wings I start to develop a list of teams that fit the bill. I further filter those teams for the ones that have the assets that Buffalo most covets. It brings me down to two teams.

If either of these teams acquires EK then they become favorites IMO to play in the SCF: Nashville, and the hockey team from Boston.

Divisional trades are rare, especially between BUF & BOS. A new GM with no bad history with his counterpart Sweeney suggests this could happen. But it's not likely.

I think NAS is the most likely destination for Kane. Boston, Pittsburgh, San Jose, and St. Louis are in my mix.

Most likely it'll be a trade with a WC team.

Two things going against him right now.

    1 goal since dec.22.

Recent fight at practice with falk where he called him selfish.

I don't think either are going to hinder his trade - for a second.

Teams know what he brings, and they'll expect his game from the start of the season and not his game from after it became a foregone conclusion that he'd be traded. He needs to get out of Buffalo and the sooner the better. I think his output will explode once he's escaped.

That practice incident is part of the old scratched record. Remember, this team is BAD. Fights in practices are very common in the NHL. TEH Phil stated that he actually liked to see that fight. It was nothing more than frustration by passionate players. They SHOULD be frustrated (and that's why it made the HC happy), and every team should covet passionate players.

Neither of those points is going to hold up a trade, or reduce his trade value.

The deal will happen, not sure about the return.

No playoff experience and expiring contract will weigh in.

HFS! You sure seem to relish the role of the "voice of dissent" We shoot down two reasons for why teams will be gun-shy about Kane, or that will reduce his value, only to replace them with two other reasons.

Let me clear, I do not think renting Kane will be worth the cost that the winning team will pay. But there may be as many as 10 teams talking to GM Bot about him, and they will pay up because the market determines his trade value. Fans of other teams around the league do not have any impact on his value.

I almost fell off my chair laughing, lol. Trade deadline is another way of saying, overpay deadline. A late first or 2nd rounder is what I see.

Don't watch at the deadline. Or, make sure your not able to fall off a chair between now and 26 Feb. That value is laughable based on the value the market has established. Do not forget the fact that he is a rental increases his value for some teams.

The only real value would be the prospects the sabres can get. A pick will be at highest 17th overall, depending if the team getting kane even makes the playoffs.
Best case scenario are two top prospects, even better if they're d-men.

If the trade is done an hour before the deadline then this may be "best case".

Meanwhile for the next three + weeks that does not even come close to a best case scenario. Not even remotely close.

Deal with reality and not a distorted and inaccurate notion of his trade value.

Reading opinions in the buffalo media, I've seen estimates as low as a 2nd round only.

Botteril wants a 1st, conditional pick and a roster player.

Sabres are willing to eat some salary.

Tsn analysts saying a rental isn't worth moving all those pieces and a late first might be more realistic.

The value of a trade piece is determined by two GM's. That's it. Everything else is hot air.

Very high in the hot air department is the so-called Buffalo media. They are fucking idiots.

We'll see, this same thing plays out every year. Rental from non-playoff team goes on trade market.
Maybe the sabres would just be better off to re-sign him.

(My emphasis added.) I have stated often that my preference would be for him to be re-signed. That is because of the rare combination of speed and physicality he possesses - exactly the type of attributes one wants come real-season hockey. For which ever reason, that's not going to happen.

Buffalo must trade him to maximize his value to the organization. All Sabres fans are very grateful that he played this year into probably his highest trade value ever. After this trade, everyone is going to look back at the WPG-BUF trade an declare that Buffalo won that trade hands-down.

A sign and trade would be in their best interest.
