Habs targeting ROR from the sabres.

Flyers looking to trade goalie Neuvirth to Edmonton as they need a goalie.

I can't believe this went thru without anyone noticing/posting...
Former Pittsburgh Penguin and more recently, Detroit Red Wing forward, Scott Wilson has been traded for a second time this season. He is now in Buffalo, taking Matt Moulson's spot probably. Detroit receives a 5th round draft pick from the Sabres in exchange, which will give them 9 draft picks in 2018.

The Sabres really blow, in case anyone noticed. Their extreme suckitude is forcing me into a laconic state.

Dan - do you see a fire sale or just a slower rebuild mode for the Sabres? Would they trade E. Kane to help the team or is he too valuable to trade ?

and since the Flyers are basically done this season, and suck, we can both be miserable. i'll bring the food.

I do not think GM Bot is going to go overboard and hold a fire sale a la Darcy Regier. He's also likely to be more deliberate with decisions compared to Tim Murray.

Once the Pegulas gave the word to Darcy to rebuild he appeared hellbent on tearing things down. Murray went overboard by using "quantity for quality" in an effort to speed up the recovery process. These things take time, and GMTM probably pushed the date for when Buffalo will be a playoff contender by at least a year. He tried to trade his way to contention rather than relying on the draft and on time.

I think GM Bot is a much better strategic thinker than either of his predecessors. I think he will be willing to consider trading any Sabre not called Jack. But it'll have to be for the right deal; he won't trade for the sake of looking active.

We do not know if E. Kane will consider signing in Buffalo. I think it's reasonable to expect that he plans to test the UFA market in July. His value may have never been higher than right now. In the end, I expect Kane to be dealt because that's proper asset management. It's not for a fire sale.

thanks Dan. the cost is too high for the Flyers to get E. Kane I know that.

The cost (or better, the value) for a player with Kane's skill set is relative to their postseason aspirations.

Buffalo can & will retain salary, so he's attainable by any team. They'd value him if they feel he'd enhance their chances to win playoff series. (Kane is built for playoff hockey with with his combination of speed & physicality. It's, therefore, a bit ironic that he's played 0 postseason games.)

Look what OTT paid for Duchene in the hopes of getting over the hump. (The fact that the trade may well prove disastrous for them is immaterial. At the time of the trade they were going all in.)

A team like Philly is not, realistically, trying for a deep playoff run. The cost for Kane* is too high in that situation. (* If they knew they could resign him then they may pay up, but I don't think Kane is going to sign with anyone until July.)

Nashville, Columbus, or Pittsburgh are teams that could justify the cost in the belief that Kane may be this missing piece that results in major bling.

If Kane had another year or two left on his contract he could attract teams with a longer term view. That would increase Buffalo's leverage and result in, possibly, a Duchennesque return. Since Kane has the leverage and not GM Bot, I expect a more modest return when/if Kane is traded.

(I personally would rather see Reinhart moved and Kane resigned. Organizationally, the Sabres are very deep at C. Their well-chronicled lack of scoring is, IMO, based on unbalanced talent on lines due to weaker wings rather than a lack of secondary scoring per se. There's help at top six W coming through the pipeline in a year or two, but I'd like to see them keep a W who has great chemistry with Eich.)

I was thinking Pittsburgh would be a good fit for E Kane. He probably wouldn’t cost very much either. He must be on GMJR’s radar.

I think he could be a great rental for the Pens. Of course GM Bot knows the org. well, so I'd be reasonably comfortable with any young player he may accept from JR.

Lehner has been very hot (.940+ SV% in recent games). The Pens need depth at G and bottom six C help. Those are both areas of relative strength - or at least trade positions - for Buffalo.

I could envision a few trade scenarios between the two teams, especially with their mutual history. Add Pegula's willingness to retain salary and that makes for trades being completed.

I'd rather end up with Fabbro from NAS, or Kostin from STL, and I'm not sure what PIT has to offer as appealing as them. But purely from a matchup perspective I think a PIT-BUF deal is pretty likely.

if Pittsburgh got Kane, I would stop watching Hockey! wtf-how many superstars do they need and why isn't the rest of the damn league trying to sign a player like Kane etc?

GMJR apparently listening to offers on Kris Letang. Stay tuned...

Stars on a hockey team (TEAM), that only works if you have a goalie!

Forward Anthony Duclair was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks by the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.

Chicago also gets defenseman Adam Clendening, with Arizona receiving forward Richard Panik and defenseman Laurent Dauphin.

Seems like a win/win for Chicago. They gain some salary cap relief and get a kid with a high ceiling. Dick Panik seems like he’s lost his game.

IS a Chicago trade ever not about cap relief? And if thy do at the deadline what about outside that?

Duclair has very good/high potential and being in Chicago he will be surrounded by far superior talent than what he had with the Doggs. He did well there as a rookie and really is going to do well in Chicago. Very good for the Hawks, in my opinion.

    lol @ Dick Panik
