1-I don't understand not keeping Mason over the career back up.
2.Im biased but I would take MAF over those two. MAF is erratic but when he is on he is on. Reference the first two rounds he stole.
    3. I believe MAF would again have to waive his NMC with LV to be traded again.

First, I think PIT would clearly prefer to keep the G tandem that has lead them to back-to-back SC. I believe it can be (logically) argued that the team would not have won both (if either) SC's without the services of both goalies.

Second, that if they had a choice then protecting Murray in the ED was clearly obvious. He's younger, cheaper, and probably the better goalie compared to MAF. MAF, if he had not waived his NMC would have had to been protected. However, waiving it for the ED only was very prudent. Essentially it gives Vegas a lot less leverage. The VGK can select MAF if they want him to backstop their team, but they cannot so easily flip him for a package of goods.

Otherwise, MAF - strictly from a talent perspective (i.e., not taking age or contract into account) would be an upgrade in G for all but a small handful of teams. If I were a fan of a playoff contender (alas, I'm not) and if my team had a prospect a year to three away from taking the starter role at G, then I would clamor for my team to find a way to obtain MAF.

The hockey team from Philadelphia selected the best goalie prospect from the 2016 draft. He's probably 2-3 years away, but after that their situation could be pretty solid. MAF, meanwhile, would be a massive upgrade over the clusterfuck of goalies they've rotated through net in recent years.

1-bc he bashed the Flyers brass to not being a #1 Goalie this year when he was. he said playing part time isnt the answer but he played the majority of games so either he can't add or is a total dumb ass. either way he's done in Philly as they were not happy about it.

2-he stole rounds for a quality team - not the Flyers. Flyers aren't in the playoffs. Do you need MAF to not contend?

    3-No idea about that.

yes the 2016 prospect is solid, but they have others too. they took a college kid i think 2 yrs ago from Yale and have 2 more prospects too. they allowed 6'8 anthony stolarz to play a little at the NHL level this year. Since they resigned Neuvirth - why not play him and Stolarz? They are not a contending team and far from it, so why PAY for MAF when they need that cap $ money to upgrade their offense.

Yes MAF is an upgrade as Dan said, but they need a ton of offensive help too and FA starts in July. Spending money on MAF vs getting a winger or 2 is a waste to me. I want Stolarz and Neuvirth to play, so im in the minority.

If they were contending, then yes, MAF would be ok and hold your breathe. lol.

Vegas can't simply trade Murray. Murray would have to waive his NMC again. It was waived just for Vegas.

That's not correct. MAF was the one with a NMC, Murray is on his ELC. PIT could trade him but obviously would not want to.

(I realize that Murray could be a typo or even an autospell. Still, MAF had the NMC.)

I meant Fleury can't be traded again without his consent. Murray isn't going anywhere.

Neuwirth is not the answer, he is just around for the ED imo. I don't think Hexy is going to hand over the reigns to a guy who only played a handful of NHL games. A guy like MAF could hold down the fort until Stolarz is ready not to mention he would be a great role model for him.
That being said, I don't think there is a chance in hell MAF ends up in Philly.

^^ he is the answer on a team not contending for the cup pgh. add stolarz and that's fine over paying a ton more for any decent to top goalie, which they don't need or afford vs buying some offense. it's an area of need but with 2 goalies in their top 5 prospects it's not a immediate need vs offense.

The Sabres [del]stole[/del] traded from Montreal today Strathroy*, ON, native Nathan Beaulieu, D, for a measly 3rd round pick. The fact that Habs fans are lighting torches and grabbing pitchforks over this adds to my delight. Nathan has not lived up to his 17th overall draft status, but he can skate and he's only 24. Jason Botterill's first trade ever as a GM looks good - and he can thank the exp. draft for it. The Habs would never have given up this player if it weren't for the VGK - at least not for a 3rd.

(* Strathroy, ON, is the hometown of Brian fucking Campbell, a former Sabres D of some note. Love having them Strathroy boys on D!)

This could be Smith's time to shine... change of scenery and a great hockey team also may work wonders for Smith.

Vegas sends Trevor van Riemsdyk to?Hurricanes

According to Frank Seravalli of TSN, the Vegas Golden Knights have sent defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Van Riemsdyk was among 15 defensemen taken by the Golden Knights in Wednesday?s expansion draft, however, general manager George McPhee made a point of saying that, as a result of having this sudden surplus at the position, he was going to have to move some of those blue liners.

McPhee has been busy over the past few days, making deals with a number of teams ahead making his expansion selections, stockpiling draft picks, including three in the top 15 of the first round.

Saad going back to Chicago for Paranin and other pieces to round things out. Rumors that CBJ will send the Hawks a goalie; they're a little thin in net after moving Darling.
