I like what Rutherford did this deadline.
He knows that blueline is vulnerable and injury prone, he addressed both sides and most skill areas. Given where they're at and what they need to do, I thought he had a really solid deadline. Even if they don't or can't use any of them, it he didn't make any reckless gambles and he put himself in a spot where they won't have to race anybody back. Even putting one of the lesser players in a certain roles allows the rest of his dmen to slot correctly, and I think that's vital in the postseason against teams with 3 or 4 strong lines.

I thought Rutherford was a reckless jackass last year but it worked out.
I really liked how he's finished out this year...probably means they're fucked in the first round.

I think I have to eat some crow myself Bob as I was all over the Rutherford hiring last year.......

Bowman said he was looking to move a couple more prospects, this was the kind of thing I was expecting. Clears a contract slot, and I think that will be useful to complete a trade this summer. He's looking to sign Shalunov, they usually sign an UDFA or two, and that leaves him with one more slot.

That Bishop trade looks really good right now.

Miller MAF Halak, and a ton of backups stuck on current rosters. Yzerman gets some big points with me by pulling the trigger on an underwhelming return rather than just eating it.

This season is nothing short of a massive disappointment. Pretty much a disaster considering this team should have been a serious contender before the window shuts.

Rather than fighting upstream, he decided to cut his losses and build up for next year with a series of trades. He also insulated himself from a significant expansion draft loss. Bad luck or bad management, he did adjust well. While most gms don't have the long rope Vinnik gives Yzerman, Yzerman gets some ditch high fives for using all of that rope and by not impaling himself like so many in his peer group.

didnt he do the opposite of insulate himself from expansion loss? Bishop couldve been their one loss to LV but now could be LA's. Cernak isa middling prospect and they lose in the pick swap.
I think the only way Yzerman gets props for this is if Vasilevsky takes the team by the balls and runs w/ it proving all he needed was the opportunity all along.

Roadhouse, the Swayze plays Dalton, you know....... rips the guys throat out and generally just kicks ass for an hour and a half. whenever i hear the name Dalton my mind immediately goes to Roadhouse. Same for the name Casey I go Segal and Under Siege. Im like 14 years old.

im no Stafford fan but this was an easy move for little going back. if he doesnt work out bury him in Providence and lose a late round pick. anyone know the condition on the pick?
its funny because Stafford is a Bruin killer but generally sucks and seems to be disliked in almost all other situations.

i like bob's comment that Sweeney offered a 3rd and Chevy talked him down. made me chuckle. also possibly true.

Curtis Lazar to Calgary eh. Add him to Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, and Bennett. looks real nice on paper, will it all keep developing though?
Dougie Hamilton kinda sneaky having a monster season. good trade Sweeney.

Ahh, I was trying to think of a Dalton Prout look a-like from Roadhouse, like the guy that got his throat ripped out, the knife-in-boot guy, one of the other knife guys, etc.

I'm talking about Yzerman's whole body of work since late January, starting with Nesterov.
He only has to move one body between now and the expansion draft and he won't lose anything worthwhile imo. He was in a real bad spot to push a trade imo. Teams that have had a ton of pieces to move have seen their market position tank...and then they usually get stuck with their roster. Yzerman did a good job to keep himself out of the corner imo.

Cernak is a middling prospect, but it's d depth he wouldn't otherwise has and it keeps him from sodomizing himself when he goes to trade Paquette, Johnson, or Namestnikov this summer. I think it would have been much harder to move any of them if he had multiple players to get out of the way and I think we'll see a few teams take it in the shorts on trades or the expansion draft because of it.

Yzerman has been grossly overrated imo. This was the first time I saw a series of moves that showed me he was operating like a big boy gm that could play the short, intermediate, and long game all at once. He has alot of work to do, I just believe he's capable of it now, unlike say Burke, Shero, Lou, etc. Most gms seem to operate as if it's nothing more than a string of independent transactions, when they go beyond that, the voices and I are going to dish out some valuable internet props...even when they suck ass on the year.

i think of Dalton and i think of Darren Dalton, the ex catcher of the Phils!

  16. Catfish Guest

the pens better pair him with someone who can coverup a lot of mistakes, bc that's what streit is.

they said last night on NHL Live that Yzerman with these 3 deals of Bishop, Boyle and Fippula really cut salary he needed too. He got high praise for that. Don't know how is on a day to day GM basis, but he was praised last night.

completely understandable, everyone has their thing.

signing Kucherov (3 yrs/ $4.76 cap hit) was a great move from Yzergone. one of the more underrated players in the league.
anyone know what has happened to Adam Erne? he almost made the team a couple years ago out of camp as an 18 year old, now i dont hear his name.
