No market for Vrbata I'm guessing. They have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, no reason for mid round picks when they don't have a developmental staff. I think Lennie is overblowing the significance of this. Biggest mistake for AZ was letting Doan play them for fools after the 12' season.

 

Even with issues like the cap this was a really bad trade deadline day. Did Vegas expansion draft have to do with it? If anything I thought it might have driven cheap trades.

Probably just a sellers market with very few sellers with so many teams in contention and nobody wanted to pay up.

 

Lou kind of fucked himself on that one. Should have cleared a spot up earlier, especially with all the UDFAs and players with rights coming up for contracts in the coming weeks.

 

Isn't the same story most years?

Last year it was declining E. Staal, and mid-6 Boedker. Ladd and Phaneuf were traded well before then.

In 15 it was Jagr, Coburn, Vermette, and Sekera. The big PEG-BUF trade was done weeks prior.

In 14 was really interesting, but that was the exception. Gaborik, Miller, Vanek, Halak, Legwand, MSL-Callahan, Luongo, McDonald, etc. That was a good one, but even then, it didn't reshape any franchise.

 

It's looking like grilled placenta for me. Fucking Sabres! BTW, does placenta constitute meat? It's Lent and I gotta think along these lines.

I think the part I enjoy the most about the deadline is that very little was done to unravel the mess facing teams for the expansion draft. Only a handful of teams seemed to address the expansion draft problems directly.

Among those gms may have been Yzerman, Bowman, Lombardi, and Holland. There were a couple more, but I have to confirm what their rosters look like now.
